Walker Island Family Camping Introduce
Looking for a family-friendly camping experience nestled in a wooded setting near Chester, Massachusetts? Walker Island Family Camping, located at 27 US-20, Chester, MA 01011, USA, offers a tranquil escape for those searching for "camping near me." You can reach them by phone at (413) 354-2295 or their mobile number, +1 413-354-2295, for inquiries and reservations. Based on customer reviews, this campground boasts a welcoming atmosphere, spacious campsites, and appealing natural features, although potential visitors should be aware of a couple of noted drawbacks.
The environment at Walker Island Family Camping is consistently praised for its natural beauty. Reviewers describe it as "very wooded" and situated "in a basin nestled between woods," creating a sense of immersion in nature and providing ample shade for campsites. A "creek through grounds" is highlighted as a particularly pretty feature, likely adding to the peaceful ambiance and offering potential for gentle exploration. The overall setting appears to be ideal for those seeking a quiet and scenic camping experience away from more crowded or open campgrounds.
Several services and features contribute to the positive experiences reported by campers. The campground offers "full hookup" campsites, although it's important to note that the electrical service is 30 amp. This is a significant convenience for RV campers, providing water, sewer, and electrical connections at their site. For those needing to take care of laundry, the campground has a laundry facility equipped with two washers and two dryers. A "nice sweating pool" is also mentioned, providing a refreshing amenity for campers to enjoy, especially during warmer months. The presence of "walkways well lit at night" enhances safety and convenience for navigating the campground after dark.
The campsites themselves are described as "spacious" and "for the most part level," which is crucial for comfortable setup and enjoyment of the outdoor living space. The availability of "lots of grassy areas to walk dogs" is a significant plus for pet owners, indicating that the campground is welcoming to furry companions and provides ample space for them. The overall impression is of a campground designed with camper comfort and convenience in mind.
The management and atmosphere of Walker Island Family Camping also receive positive feedback. The "office staff (owner)" is described as "very nice and friendly," suggesting a welcoming and helpful approach to guest services. The campground is noted for being "quiet," with "no loud kids (well behaved)," indicating a peaceful and family-oriented environment where noise levels are generally kept to a minimum. The "clean grounds" further contribute to a pleasant and enjoyable stay, reflecting the owners' attention to maintenance and guest comfort.
However, potential visitors should be aware of a significant drawback mentioned by multiple reviewers: the condition of the roads. The "access road into campground and inside roads are poorly maintained in bad shape," according to one reviewer. This could present challenges for vehicles, particularly those with lower clearance or larger RVs. It is advisable to inquire about the current road conditions before traveling to the campground and to drive cautiously upon arrival and within the grounds.
Another important aspect to consider is the presence of wildlife. One reviewer mentioned that the location was "a little scary knowing we were sleeping with bears and had to leave all food in cars in the evening." This indicates that bear activity is a known factor in the area, and campers are advised to take necessary precautions, such as storing food properly in vehicles, to ensure their safety and prevent attracting wildlife to their campsites. While this is a natural aspect of camping in a wooded environment, it's crucial for visitors to be aware and prepared.
Despite the road conditions and the need for bear awareness, the overall sentiment from reviewers is positive. One camper concluded that it is "all in all a great place to stay for any length of time" and expressed their intention to return the following year. Another reviewer praised the "excellent" family-run service and noted that the "price per night is relatively cheap compared to other campgrounds." This suggests that Walker Island Family Camping offers good value for money in addition to its appealing natural setting and amenities.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the positive comments regarding the friendly service, clean grounds, spacious campsites, and attractive natural environment serve as implicit endorsements for the campground. The fact that a reviewer intends to return highlights customer satisfaction and suggests a positive experience worth repeating. The relatively cheap price point mentioned by one reviewer could also be considered a promotional aspect, appealing to budget-conscious travelers.
For local users searching for "camping near me" that offers a wooded setting, family-friendly atmosphere, and essential amenities like full hookups and laundry, Walker Island Family Camping appears to be a strong contender. The presence of a swimming pool and the picturesque creek add to its appeal. However, it is crucial to be aware of the potentially poor road conditions and the need to take precautions regarding bear activity. Contacting the campground directly at (413) 354-2295 or +1 413-354-2295 for the latest information on road conditions and bear safety guidelines is highly recommended before planning a visit.
In conclusion, Walker Island Family Camping near Chester, MA, offers a beautiful and quiet wooded retreat with spacious campsites, a swimming pool, and family-friendly policies. The friendly owners and clean grounds contribute to a positive camping experience. While the poor condition of the access and internal roads and the presence of bears require consideration and preparedness, the overall positive feedback and reasonable pricing suggest that Walker Island Family Camping is a great option for local users seeking a peaceful and nature-filled "camping near me" getaway.

Walker Island Family Camping Reviews
Office staff (owner) very nice and friendly. Campsites are specious and for the most part level. Very wooded, creek through grounds - very pretty. Nice sweating pool. Full hookup but only 30 amp. Laundry with two washers / driers. Buggy. Quiet, no loud kids (well behaved). Clean grounds.I would have given 5 stars but access road into campground and inside roads are poorly maintained in bad shape. All in all a great place to stay for any length of time.
Jul 21, 2024 · Moshe BacharachThe location was great in a basin nestled between woods. It was a little scary knowing we were sleeping with bears and had to leave all food in cars in the evening. Campsites were spacious and walkways well lit at night. Pool was enjoyable and common areas clean. The bathrooms and showers were always available when I needed. Price per night is relatively cheap compared to other campgrounds. Family run and service were excellent. We will be going back next year!
Aug 16, 2023 · Christina AriasWe needed a place to camp for a night on our travels through the area. I only wish we had more time here! The place is beautiful with homey touches; you can see the love that goes into caring for the whole campground.
May 31, 2024 · Sheryl GentryI wish I could give this place more stars just for the GREAT WIFI! We are full-timers and rely on a Starlink dishy that hates trees. This park is nestled next to a riverbed with a ton of trees. We were worried at first, but both of us connected and worked remotely solely on their internet with no issues and great connectivity. We've been across the country and this is very rare! Also it's just a great place. We loved being right on the river with multiple access points. We walked our dogs up through all the campsites every lunch hour. The nearby hike Sanderson Brook Falls Trail was also gorgeous in the fall!
Jan 03, 2024 · Mallory HunterOn the rough side but neat & clean. Beautiful brook and nestled at the base of a stately Berkshire mini-mountain. Roads are narrow but our back-in site was plenty big for our 30-ft trailer. Arrived after dark and owners out to help us very quickly! Truly enjoyed our short time there and worth the beautiful drive through the hills from I-90.
