Wilderness Retreat Introduce
Are you a local resident of Oklahoma or a neighboring state searching for a "camping near me" experience in a cabin setting? Wilderness Retreat, located at 398 Ebb Tide Rd, Broken Bow, OK 74728, USA, offers a seemingly secluded option in the popular Broken Bow area. This region is known for its natural beauty, attracting visitors with its forests, lakes, and rivers. However, recent customer reviews present a mixed picture of what potential guests can expect at Wilderness Retreat, highlighting both positive aspects and significant drawbacks that local users should carefully consider.
Location and Accessibility: Wilderness Retreat is situated on Ebb Tide Road in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. The name itself suggests a location that might be somewhat removed from more populated areas, offering a sense of being "off the grid." Broken Bow is a well-known destination for cabin rentals, appealing to those seeking a nature-based getaway. However, one review notes that the cabin is "next to highway and very noisy making it difficult to sleep due to the cars flying by," which directly contradicts the expectation of a secluded wilderness experience. This proximity to a highway is a crucial factor for potential guests who prioritize peace and quiet.
Accessibility to the cabin for larger vehicles, specifically a big truck and trailer, was also reported as "not ideal." Despite assurances from the owner prior to booking, a guest found "too many trees and very hard to park," indicating that parking might be challenging for those with larger vehicles or trailers. This is an important consideration for guests planning to bring boats, ATVs, or other equipment that requires ample parking space and maneuverability.
Environment and Landscape: While the name "Wilderness Retreat" implies a natural and possibly secluded environment, the review mentioning noise from a nearby highway suggests that the soundscape might be significantly impacted by traffic. This could detract from the peaceful wilderness ambiance that guests might be expecting. The presence of "too many trees" hindering parking, while problematic for accessibility, does indicate a wooded environment surrounding the cabin.
One positive aspect mentioned in a review is that the location was "perfect for my family of four plus dog," and they "enjoyed our family time here 'off the grid'." This suggests that, despite the highway noise, the cabin might offer a sense of being removed from typical urban connectivity, potentially appealing to those looking to disconnect. However, the discrepancy between the perceived "off the grid" experience and the highway noise needs to be weighed by potential renters.
Services and Amenities: Based on the limited information in the reviews, we can infer some of the services and amenities offered at Wilderness Retreat:
- Accommodation for Families and Pets: One review explicitly mentions it being perfect for a family of four plus a dog, indicating a pet-friendly policy and sufficient space for a small family.
- Kitchen and Living Area: The mention of "crumbs everywhere in the kitchen and living room" upon arrival suggests the presence of these areas within the cabin.
- Bedrooms: A "master bedroom" is mentioned, and a guest noted that the bed was not ideal for two people.
- Bathrooms: There is at least one bathroom upstairs and one downstairs, as indicated by the leak from the upstairs bathroom affecting the downstairs ceiling.
The reviews do not provide details about other common amenities found in cabin rentals, such as a fully equipped kitchen (beyond the mention of crumbs), linens, towels, heating and air conditioning, Wi-Fi (not mentioned), or outdoor spaces like a porch or deck. The lack of positive comments regarding cleanliness upon arrival is a significant concern.
Features and Activities: The primary feature of Wilderness Retreat seems to be its potential to accommodate families and pets in a location that feels somewhat removed or "off the grid" to some guests. However, the proximity to a noisy highway could significantly detract from the experience of being in a wilderness setting. The surrounding Broken Bow area offers numerous activities, such as hiking, boating, fishing, and exploring Beavers Bend State Park, which would likely be accessible from the cabin, provided the highway noise does not deter guests from venturing out.
The fact that one family "absolutely loved this place" suggests that for some, the positive aspects (such as the ability to bring a pet and enjoy family time) might outweigh the negatives reported by others. However, the issues with cleanliness, the master bed's suitability for two people, the leaking bathroom, and the parking difficulties for larger vehicles are serious concerns that potential guests should consider.
Promotional Information: No promotional information is provided in the given data. Local users interested in booking Wilderness Retreat would need to find its listing on vacation rental websites or contact the owner/property manager directly (if contact information is available through those listings) to inquire about pricing, availability, and any potential special offers. Given the mixed reviews, it would be prudent to ask specific questions about the issues raised in the feedback, such as the highway noise, the quality of the beds, the parking situation for their vehicle, and the measures taken to ensure cleanliness.
Objective Summary: Wilderness Retreat in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, presents a "camping near me" option that has received mixed reviews from recent guests. While one family enjoyed their "off the grid" experience with their dog, other guests reported significant issues with cleanliness upon arrival, a master bed unsuitable for two people, a leaking bathroom, difficult parking for large vehicles, and considerable noise from a nearby highway, which contradicts the expectation of a peaceful wilderness retreat. Potential local users should carefully weigh these contrasting experiences. The cabin appears to accommodate families and pets, but the negative feedback regarding comfort, maintenance, and noise levels are serious concerns that should be addressed with the owner or property manager before booking. It is recommended to seek additional information and possibly recent reviews from other sources to get a more comprehensive understanding of the current state of Wilderness Retreat before making a decision.
For local residents seeking a cabin getaway in Broken Bow, Wilderness Retreat might offer a pet-friendly option that feels somewhat removed. However, the reported cleanliness issues, uncomfortable bed, maintenance problems, parking difficulties, and significant highway noise are critical factors that potential guests must consider and investigate further to ensure it meets their expectations for a relaxing "camping near me" experience.

Wilderness Retreat Reviews
When we arrived, we found a couple dead bugs on the floor and crumbs everywhere in the kitchen and living room. The bed in the master bedroom wasn’t the best. It’s clearly not meant for two people to sleep in. The mattress was caved in in the middle. Unfortunately my husband and I did not sleep well. The bathroom floor upstairs leaked through the ceiling in the bathroom downstairs when my kids were taking showers. When I asked the owner before paying for the rental if the parking out front would allow a big truck and trailer, he said yes. It was not ideal. Too many trees and very hard to park!We will definitely be looking for something different the next time.Next to highway and very noisy making it difficult to sleep due to the cars flying by. Do not recommend
