Customer reviews of Indian Springs Campground present a somewhat mixed picture, highlighting both positive aspects related to the environment and the owner's mission, as well as concerns regarding the cleanliness and comfort of the cabins. One reviewer specifically commended "Ron the man who helped me" as "awesome," suggesting positive interactions with at least one member of the staff.
However, another reviewer who rented two cabins for a wedding weekend reported significant issues with cleanliness. They described the cabins as "filthy," noting the presence of "dead bugs everywhere, rat poop," and a "gross" toilet with "pee stains." This reviewer felt compelled to clean the cabins themselves upon arrival, expressing that this should not have been necessary. Additionally, they mentioned that the beds were "hard as rocks," advising future guests to bring extra padding for a comfortable night's sleep. These comments indicate a potential inconsistency in the upkeep and cleanliness of the cabin accommodations.
In contrast, another reviewer expressed a deep appreciation for Indian Springs Campground, emphasizing the beauty of the natural surroundings and the opportunity it provides for children to disconnect from technology and enjoy the outdoors. This reviewer specifically praised Mr. Ronnie, the owner, as "always so sweet and helpful" and highlighted his dedication to supporting disabled veterans and children. According to this review, Mr. Ronnie, a marine, uses the proceeds from the campground to host hunting trips for disabled veterans and their families on one weekend and outdoor experiences for disabled children on another. This philanthropic aspect appears to be a central and highly valued feature of Indian Springs Campground.
This positive review also mentions the enjoyment of stargazing at the campground, noting that the stars appear "so much brighter" in this location. The reviewer describes the campground as "not real fancy" but emphasizes that "the land is beautiful and taken care of" and that "the bath house is clean." This suggests that while the amenities may be basic, the natural environment is well-maintained, and essential facilities are kept in good order.
A notable feature highlighted in the positive review is a "new pier they built over the lake." This pier is described as "wheelchair accessible" with "areas of low railing for someone in a wheelchair," underscoring Mr. Ronnie's commitment to making the campground accessible to individuals with disabilities. This addition suggests a focus on inclusivity and providing opportunities for everyone to enjoy the natural beauty of the location.
The reviewer reiterates Mr. Ronnie's "true passion for the disabled Vets and kids who also are handicapped," emphasizing his efforts to create a place where they can "come out and connect with nature with their friends and families." This charitable mission appears to be a core identity of Indian Springs Campground, setting it apart from purely recreational RV parks.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Indian Springs Campground seems to be its strongest asset, characterized by the natural beauty of the Big Thicket region, a lake with a new accessible pier, and a generally well-maintained landscape. The focus on providing outdoor experiences for disabled veterans and children creates a unique and commendable atmosphere.
In terms of services and features, the campground offers both RV sites and cabins. While one reviewer praised the owner's helpfulness, another raised significant concerns about the cleanliness and comfort of the cabins, specifically mentioning dead bugs, rat poop, stained toilets, and hard beds. The bathhouse is described as clean. Information regarding specific RV site amenities such as hookups (water, electricity, sewer), their size, and accessibility is not detailed in the provided reviews. The new wheelchair-accessible pier on the lake is a notable feature that enhances accessibility to the waterfront.

The campground's commitment to accessibility, particularly with the new pier, makes it a potentially welcoming destination for individuals with mobility challenges.
In conclusion, Indian Springs Campground offers a natural setting with a commendable mission of supporting disabled veterans and children, evidenced by the owner's initiatives and the accessible pier. However, potential guests, especially those considering cabin rentals, should be aware of the reported issues regarding cleanliness and comfort. RV campers may have a different experience, particularly if they prioritize the natural environment and the park's charitable focus. It is recommended to contact Indian Springs Campground directly to inquire about the specific amenities of the RV sites and to seek clarification on the current condition and upkeep of the cabins before making a reservation. The positive feedback regarding the owner's helpfulness and the beauty of the land suggests a potentially rewarding experience for those who value nature and community spirit, but the concerns about cabin conditions warrant careful consideration.

Indian Springs Campground Reviews
Ron the man who helped me was awesome! Stayed here in the cabins this past weekend for my friends wedding (to be closer to venue) obviously the heavy rain wasn't ideal but we were just going to be sleeping there. So they served there purpose. But.....I had to get there an hour early before my friends arrived because those cabins( I rented 2) were filthy I had to clean them, dead bugs everywhere, rat poop, the toilet was gross with pee stains on them. I shouldn't have had to clean that but I did.Beds were hard as rocks, if you stay there bring extra padding or you won't be sleeping.
May 06, 2024 · Hillary HalvorsonI love going to Indian Springs camp grounds in Kountze. I love being out in the woods just looking and walking around at all of Gods creations, and I love my kids putting down their phones and enjoying the out doors. Mr. Ronnie (the owner) is always so sweet and helpful. He is a marine and he takes the money that you pay to stay there with, and he uses it to put on a hunt for worriers that are disabled and their families on one weekend and then on another weekend he has disabled kids out there. One of my favorite things to do is to look at the stars at night, they always seem so much brighter out there. It is not real fancy place, but the land is beautiful and taken care of, the bath house is clean. If you are looking for a place to go to get out of the rat race for a few days you need to check this place out. Love the new pier they built over the lake. It is wheelchair accessible and has areas of low railing for someone in a wheelchair. Mr. Ronnie has a true passion for the disabled Vets and kids who also are handicapped. A place they can come out and connect with nature with their friends and families.
Mar 25, 2024 · Kim HernandezRon was very hospitable, had a great stay, was very affordable with comfortable waldenesque cabins that overlook the campground's lake and the woods of the big thicket. Used as a camp for day hikes through the Preserve. A/C was a relief after twelve miles in the 100° heat of July.
Jan 29, 2024 · Kevin L.T.This is my second time coming here and I love it. If you’re looking for quaint and quiet place to camp with no frills this is it. The owner is super sweet and very accommodating he even let us use some oars for our kayak! There is a little alligator in the pond on the property so just keep your kids and pets away from it. Also keep your dog on a leash cause there’s lot of wild mushrooms around the campgrounds, my dog got really sick after ingesting something and it cost a pretty penny at the vet that’s 25 miles away. Other than that, I’ll be coming back for sure!
Aug 03, 2020 · Krystal GThe owners of this place and accommodating and amazing- people that care about ensuring you have a great experience. The bath house is clean and new. The full hookup spaces are well shaded but close together. The water/elec spaces are much bigger and most have great shade. They have trails everywhere! A lake with small piers/docks for fishing, and canoes. We can’t wait to go back!!!
