Amanita Campground

Donnelly, ID 83615, USA

4.0
Well-maintained campground right on the lake with a few water spigots and vault toilets. They recently cut down many trees due to root rot so there isn't much shade. It is also right next to a road so there is the sounds of vehicles driving by. Other than those things, there are really pretty views of the lake. Wish there were a better trail to access the lake without going through another campsite. - Sarah Stout

Amanita Campground Introduce

For local residents in Idaho searching for a lakeside "camping near me" experience, Amanita Campground, located near Donnelly, ID 83615, presents a mixed bag of features and environmental factors based on recent customer reviews. Situated directly on a lake, this campground offers the allure of waterfront access and scenic views. However, potential visitors should be aware of certain drawbacks, including limited shade due to recent tree removal and noise from a nearby road. Despite these considerations, Amanita Campground appears to offer a decent car camping experience with some appealing qualities.

The environment of Amanita Campground is defined by its prime location "right on the lake," providing campers with easy access to water activities and potentially beautiful lake views. The reviews mention "really pretty views of the lake," which suggests a significant natural attraction. However, a notable environmental change has occurred with the recent cutting down of "many trees due to root rot," resulting in a lack of significant shade within the campground. This is an important factor to consider, especially during warmer months when shade can greatly enhance comfort. Additionally, the campground's proximity to a road means that visitors should expect "the sounds of vehicles driving by" and "lots of road noise from West Mountain road." This noise pollution could impact the tranquility of the camping experience, particularly for those seeking a quiet natural escape. Despite these downsides, the lakefront location remains a key environmental attribute, offering a blend of accessibility to nature and the potential for scenic enjoyment.

In terms of services and amenities, Amanita Campground offers a few basic but essential facilities. Reviewers mention the presence of "a few water spigots," indicating access to drinking water within the campground, which is a significant convenience for campers. The campground also provides "vault toilets" (also referred to as "pit toilets"), with one reviewer noting "only 2 pit toilets, one men's and one women's," which might be a limited number depending on the campground's capacity. One positive aspect highlighted is that the campsites have "good graded tent pads," suggesting a level of maintenance and preparation for tent campers. However, there is no mention of other typical campground amenities such as fire pits, picnic tables, or trash disposal, so campers should be prepared for potentially rustic conditions beyond the water spigots and toilets. The phone number provided, (208) 373-4100 or +1 208-373-4100, can be used to inquire about a comprehensive list of available services and any specific regulations or guidelines for the campground.

The key features of Amanita Campground include its direct lakefront location, providing easy access for swimming, fishing, or simply enjoying the water's edge. The "pretty views of the lake" are another significant feature, enhancing the overall camping experience. The well-maintained nature of the campground, as indicated by "well-maintained campground" and "good graded tent pads," suggests that the management takes some care in upkeep. However, there are also features that might be considered drawbacks, such as the limited shade due to tree removal and the noticeable road noise from the adjacent road. One reviewer also pointed out a desire for "a better trail to access the lake without going through another campsite," indicating a potential design limitation in terms of lake access for all campers. While some sites are described as "choice lakefront sites," others are considered "just okay," suggesting variability in the quality and desirability of individual campsites. The "pretty private feeling" of the sites is a positive feature, offering some sense of seclusion despite the campground's proximity to the road and other campers.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Amanita Campground in the provided data. To learn about any special offers, seasonal rates, or unique aspects of the campground that might serve as promotional points, interested local users should contact the managing authority, which, given the phone number's association with the Boise National Forest, is likely the U.S. Forest Service. Inquiring about reservation procedures, especially for the more desirable lakefront sites, would also be advisable. Information about any fees associated with camping, regulations regarding campfires or pets, and any potential restrictions due to the recent tree removal or ongoing maintenance would be beneficial to obtain when contacting them. Given the mix of positive and negative feedback in the reviews, any promotional material would likely emphasize the lakefront access and maintained campsites while potentially downplaying the shade and noise issues.

In conclusion, Amanita Campground near Donnelly, Idaho, offers a "camping near me" option with the significant advantage of being located directly on a lake, providing scenic views and water access. The campground is described as well-maintained with good tent pads. However, potential visitors should be prepared for limited shade due to recent tree cutting and noticeable road noise from a nearby road. The availability of only vault toilets and a few water spigots suggests a more basic level of amenities. While the lakefront sites are highly desirable, other sites may be less appealing. Local users considering Amanita Campground should weigh the benefits of lakeside camping and maintained sites against the drawbacks of shade and noise. Contacting the Boise National Forest Service at (208) 373-4100 or +1 208-373-4100 for the most current information on amenities, reservations, and any advisories is highly recommended to ensure a satisfactory camping experience.
