Backcountry Camp 60

Deep Creek Trail, Bryson City, NC 28713, USA

5.0
This site is easily accessible at under three miles from the Deep Creek Trailhead. Not a whole lot of elevation gain so almost anyone could hike to it. A large backcountry site with a 20 person capacity. Three of four separate areas to camp and all of them right beside beautiful Deep Creek! We were the only people camping this night and it was perfect. Definitely one of our favorite campsites in the backcountry yet. Be sure to get your backcountry permit and parking tag. - Mark Lee

As the reviews highlight, the campsite is located right beside the creek, offering the soothing sounds of flowing water and potential for creek-side relaxation. Deep Creek is known for its pristine waters and scenic beauty, making it an attractive destination for nature lovers. The easy accessibility of the site, being under three miles from the trailhead with minimal elevation gain, makes it an appealing option for a wide range of campers, from beginners to experienced backpackers. The surrounding area is part of the greater Smoky Mountains region, renowned for its lush forests, diverse flora and fauna, and opportunities for various outdoor activities beyond camping, such as hiking and fishing.

As a backcountry campsite, the services at Backcountry Camp 60 are intentionally minimal, focusing on providing a natural andLeave No Trace camping experience. Unlike developed campgrounds with amenities like restrooms and water spigots, backcountry sites typically require campers to be self-sufficient. This means you will need to carry in all your necessary gear, including shelter, food, water (or a means to purify it from the creek), and waste disposal bags. The reviews do mention the site's large capacity (20 people) and the availability of "three of four separate areas to camp," suggesting designated spots to pitch tents, which helps in organizing larger groups and minimizing impact on the environment. While specific services are not provided, the natural feature of direct access to Deep Creek can be considered a valuable service for water needs (with proper purification) and recreational enjoyment like fishing.

The primary features of Backcountry Camp 60 revolve around its accessibility, size, and location. The easy hike of under three miles with little elevation gain is a significant feature, making it suitable for families, less experienced hikers, and those who prefer a gentler trek into the backcountry. The large 20-person capacity makes it an excellent option for group camping trips. The availability of multiple separate camping areas within the site allows for some degree of privacy and helps to disperse campers, enhancing the overall experience and reducing environmental impact. The direct access to Deep Creek is another key feature, offering scenic views, the calming sound of water, and opportunities for fishing (with appropriate permits). The trail leading to the campsite is described as "mostly a flat, wide path, with only a short section of actual trail near the end," further contributing to its ease of access. The absence of cell service is also a notable feature for those looking to disconnect from technology and fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.

Considering the "camping near me" category, Backcountry Camp 60 offers a unique type of camping experience – backcountry camping. This differs from car camping at developed campgrounds and provides a more secluded and immersive encounter with nature. It's an excellent option for locals looking to venture slightly further from their vehicles and experience the tranquility of the backcountry without undertaking a strenuous hike. The fact that it's easily accessible makes it a great introduction to backcountry camping for those who might be hesitant to tackle more challenging trails. The large capacity also makes it ideal for local groups or gatherings looking for a shared outdoor experience.
