For those searching within the 'camping near me' category, Bark Camp stands out as a destination offering a blend of natural beauty and essential camping amenities.
The environment at Bark Camp Recreation Area is truly captivating. Surrounded by lush mountain terrain, the centerpiece is the stunning Bark Camp Lake. This remote and quiet body of water invites visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature. Imagine waking up to the gentle sounds of the forest and the shimmering reflection of the surrounding trees on the lake's surface. The air is fresh and clean, offering a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The area is known for its natural beauty, providing breathtaking views and a sense of peaceful isolation that is highly sought after by campers looking to reconnect with the outdoors.
One of the highlights of Bark Camp is the shoreline trail that encircles the lake. This trail offers opportunities for leisurely strolls and more invigorating hikes, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the beauty of the lake and its surroundings. According to a recent visitor, "the lake trail was nice," indicating its appeal for those who enjoy walking and exploring. However, it's worth noting that the same reviewer mentioned that "the footbridges need some repair especially along the boardwalk" with "some boards missing/loose." This suggests that while the trail offers scenic views, local users should exercise caution in certain areas and be aware of the current trail conditions. Despite this, the opportunity to hike around the lake and soak in the natural beauty remains a significant draw for campers.
Beyond the lake and its trail, Bark Camp boasts a unique natural feature: a small cave known as Kitchen Rock. This intriguing geological formation adds an element of exploration and discovery to your camping trip. The mention of Kitchen Rock in a review suggests it's a point of interest that attracts visitors and provides a memorable experience. Imagine venturing into this small cave and marveling at the natural rock formations – a perfect little adventure for families and curious individuals alike.
For those interested in wildlife, Bark Camp is known for its "abundance of bear." This is explicitly mentioned as a "valid attraction or concern, depending on your viewpoint." Local users who are comfortable with the possibility of encountering bears may find this an exciting aspect of the natural environment. However, it is crucial for all campers to be aware of bear safety guidelines, including proper food storage and waste disposal, to ensure both their safety and the well-being of the wildlife. This unique characteristic sets Bark Camp apart and offers a true immersion into a wilder natural setting.

Bark Camp Recreation Area Reviews
Like a prior reviewer mentioned...the lake trail was nice but the footbridges need some repair especially along the boardwalk. Some boards were missing/loose. Gorgeous area and views.
Dec 27, 2019 · Angela OliverBark Camp is a remote, quiet mountain lake w/camping and a shoreline trail ... even a small cave known as Kitchen Rock (pictured). The abundance of bear is a valid attraction or concern, depending on your viewpoint.
Mar 17, 2023 · BRIAN S WOODSI've visited bark camp before to kayak. Drove there yesterday, August 30, 2020, only to find a locked gate. I checked the website before going and it said nothing about closure. I was pretty upset about this after driving almost an hour and a half just to get there. It is a nice lake with no gas powered motors allowed, which is great for kayakers. I will visit again, only after I'm certain it's open. 🙁
Aug 31, 2020 · Brandy CombsIf this spot were well kept, it would be a jewel. Unfortunately, the Forest Service devotes their resources to ravaging places like the Stock Creek watershed, which they plan to do soon.
Aug 20, 2021 · rapur homadogeAlways something with this place. Drove two hours only to find the bath houses were locked and closed. With all the fees you'd think they could do something decent and keep the place running
