Beaver Bay Campground

150 Sherman Rd, Cougar, WA 98616, USA

4.0
We spent two nights here on the weekend. We found the site to be well shaded with many tall trees but very few shrubs to provide each site with any privacy. The campground in general was noisy, especially after the posted quiet time with no enforcement of the rules. Despite there being a posted burn ban, there were multiple sites having camp fires with no enforcement to put out the fires. The single restroom was very poorly maintained and not sufficient to handle the number of campers. There was a bathhouse but it was quite a distance from our camping area ( Loop A) and not convenient for a quick visit. The bathhouse was also poorly maintained. The "beach" or "swimming area" was horrible. Broken glass, overused and rocky. This campground needs a lot of work and, sadly, I would not recommend it. - quiltingmom Church

Beaver Bay Campground Introduce

For those in the Cougar, Washington area or planning a visit and searching for 'camping near me', Beaver Bay Campground, located at 150 Sherman Rd, Cougar, WA 98616, USA, presents a camping option with varied experiences reported by visitors. Understanding these perspectives can help local users make informed decisions about their camping destinations.

One recent review details a less than satisfactory experience during a weekend stay at Beaver Bay Campground. The camper noted that while the campsite was "well shaded with many tall trees," there was a lack of shrubs, resulting in limited privacy between individual sites. A significant concern raised was the noise level within the campground, particularly after the posted quiet time, with an apparent lack of enforcement of these rules by the management. This could be a crucial factor for campers prioritizing a peaceful and restful night's sleep.

The same reviewer also highlighted a serious safety issue regarding a posted burn ban. Despite this ban, multiple campsites were observed having campfires, and there was no enforcement to extinguish these fires. This not only poses a potential safety risk but also indicates a lack of adherence to established campground rules and regulations.

The condition of the facilities was another area of concern for this visitor. The single restroom serving the campground was described as "very poorly maintained and not sufficient to handle the number of campers." While a bathhouse was mentioned, it was located quite a distance from certain camping areas (specifically Loop A), making it inconvenient for quick use. The bathhouse itself was also reported to be "poorly maintained," suggesting potential issues with cleanliness and upkeep of the campground's essential amenities.

The "beach" or "swimming area" at Beaver Bay Campground was described as "horrible," with mentions of "broken glass, overused and rocky." This significantly detracts from the appeal for campers hoping to enjoy water-based activities during their stay. The presence of broken glass raises safety concerns, especially for families with children.

Based on this detailed negative review, the visitor concluded that Beaver Bay Campground "needs a lot of work" and, regrettably, could not recommend it to others. This perspective highlights potential shortcomings in terms of rule enforcement, facility maintenance, and the quality of recreational areas.

However, another recent review offers a contrasting experience, focusing specifically on the group campground area. This group camper reported a "fantastic experience" and expressed surprise at how "large, how safe, and how well kept the group campsite was." This positive feedback suggests that the group camping facilities may be better maintained or offer a different environment compared to the individual campsites. The reviewer enthusiastically stated their intention to return with more friends, indicating a high level of satisfaction with the group camping option.

Considering these two differing perspectives, Beaver Bay Campground appears to offer a potentially varied experience depending on the type of campsite and perhaps the specific area within the campground. For individuals or smaller groups seeking standard campsites, the reported issues with noise, rule enforcement, restroom maintenance, and the swimming area are significant factors to consider. The lack of privacy due to minimal shrubs between sites might also be a drawback for some campers.

On the other hand, the group campground seems to provide a more positive experience, characterized by spaciousness, safety, and good maintenance. This makes Beaver Bay Campground a potentially attractive option for larger groups looking for a well-equipped and secure camping area for gatherings.

For local users searching for 'camping near me' in the vicinity of Cougar, WA, Beaver Bay Campground's proximity to natural attractions, potentially including Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, could still be a draw. However, prospective campers should weigh the positive feedback regarding the group site against the negative experiences reported for individual campsites.

To gain a more comprehensive understanding of Beaver Bay Campground and to determine if it meets specific needs, it is advisable to contact the campground directly at (360) 238-5251 or +1 360-238-5251. Inquiries should focus on:

  • The availability and types of campsites (individual vs. group).
  • Current policies regarding quiet hours and burn bans, and how these are enforced.
  • The current condition and maintenance schedule for restrooms and bathhouses in different camping loops.
  • The status and safety of the beach or swimming area.
  • Any ongoing improvements or planned upgrades to the campground facilities.
  • Specific amenities offered at individual campsites (e.g., fire pits, picnic tables).
  • Amenities available in the group camping area.
  • Rates for different types of campsites and any potential discounts or promotions for local users.

While the reviews do not mention any specific promotional offers, it is always worth inquiring about any special deals or packages that might be available, especially for local residents or for group bookings. Understanding the current management's response to the issues raised in the negative review would also be beneficial.

In conclusion, Beaver Bay Campground in Cougar, WA, presents a mixed picture for those searching for 'camping near me'. While the group campground appears to offer a positive experience with spacious and well-kept facilities, individual campers have reported concerns regarding noise, rule enforcement, facility maintenance, and the quality of the swimming area. Prospective visitors should carefully consider these differing perspectives and directly contact the campground for the most up-to-date information to make an informed decision about their camping plans in the Cougar, WA region.
