Beckwourth Peak High Camp Reviews
I stayed at Beckwourth Peak High Camp overnight during a 2 day bike-glamping trip. The owner of the camp organized the ride and the overnight stay and both were a great experience. The camp was a site for sore eyes at the end of the first days ride. I expected to be roughing it but this was far from that. The entire camp is off grid and fed water from a nearby spring. There are private bathrooms and showers that are as nice as my facilities at home. I stayed in the yurt and it was very comfortable. There is a queen size bed along with 2 full size beds in the loft. The kitchen was stocked with coffee along with creme and sugar. There is a fridge and microwave and a large water cooler. I loved the custom coffee mugs. There is a patio off the yurt with a BBQ and setting for 4. Its a short walk up the hill to the bathrooms and showers. There are 2 smaller rooms one with a shower and one with bathroom facilities. There is also a larger full bath. There are a few tiny home like cabins as well. The camp host was very gracious and had fascinating stories. There is a large covered picnic area with a fire pit adjacent to it. Its the perfect place for star gazing. You don't need to ride a bike to the camp, it's accessible by road from the town below. This would be a great place for a group outing or for a small family glamping trip. Thanks to the owner of Beckwourth Peak High Camp and to his staff for providing an amazing experience.
Aug 27, 2024 · Matthew BarrI am the owner of Comova Cycling, an adventure cycling guiding business, and ran a gravel cycling tour using Beckwourth Peak High Camp as a base. The experience was exceptional. The cabins and yurt exceeded expectations. The shaded picnic table area provided a perfect spot for preparing meals and socializing. And the bathrooms and showers were immaculate. Proximity to Portola, not to mention great gravel cycling, is a huge plus. I will definitely be planning future trips using Beckwourth Peak High Camp.
Jul 01, 2024 · Stephen ZavestoskiWe came to Beckwourth high camp looking for a place to stage a bikepacking trip of the “Lost Sierra Loop”, as well as relax and recover afterwards. It was perfect! The tiny home cabins exceeded all of our expectations! They are new and modern, with comfortable beds. The bathroom block is separate, but similarly new, modern and very clean and comfortable. On top of that, the owner Forest (an avid bikepacker himself), and camp host Bob are exceptionally accommodating. Bob setup a gas grill for us made sure the fire pit was ready to use, and generally made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. The land the camp is situated on is really stunningly beautiful. We were able to ride straight from our cabin to some beautiful trails around Beckwourth peak, and Lake Davis was a short drive away for some relaxing SUP boarding. The property is an excellent base camp for adventures in this beautiful neck of the woods. Edit: I read in one review that there wasn’t wifi at the time, but now they have Starlink, which works pretty well!
Sep 03, 2024 · Julie KanagyStayed in the yurt for the Lost and Found gravel race. Really nice property with gorgeous 360° views, comfortable beds, and all the amenities you need (microwave, coffee maker, fire pit, picnic area, showers, etc). No wifi or TV which was fine by us. Forest was a super friendly host and enjoying talking all things bikes. And he was kind enough to let me charge my Bolt EV off the solar during the day while we rode. Super close to town. Highly recommend for those coming to explore this part of the Lost Sierras!
Jun 19, 2024 · Logan ChaddeThis is a fantastic camp for a gravel or mountain bike adventure. It feels like it is very secluded but is very close to Portola. There are lots of good trails nearby. The camp facilities are brand new and offer super clean bathrooms with showers. You could easily get a group together (max capacity is about 35) for a great weekend!
