Lightning Tree campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" and value cleanliness, spaciousness, and a beautiful natural setting, Lightning Tree Campground in California might just be the hidden gem you've been looking for. Based on overwhelmingly positive recent customer reviews, this campground stands out for its exceptional maintenance, generous campsite sizes, proximity to a lake, and abundant wildlife. While the precise address within California is not specified in the provided information, the area appears to be within a reasonable driving distance of a town offering conveniences like ice and pizza (approximately 20 minutes away).
The environment at Lightning Tree Campground is consistently praised for its beauty and tranquility. One reviewer described it as the "best camping ground we have been to in years!" highlighting the overall cleanliness and the well-maintained nature of the grounds. The presence of a lake, visible from some campsites, adds to the scenic appeal and offers potential for lakeside activities, although direct water access from all sites isn't explicitly detailed. One review mentions a trail leading from the site to the shore, suggesting accessible lake frontage for some campers. Across from certain campsites, open meadows provide additional visual appeal and a sense of spaciousness. The abundance of deer in the area is also a notable environmental feature, with one visitor counting as many as 20 deer on a single drive into the campground, emphasizing the need for caution while driving.
The services and facilities at Lightning Tree Campground appear to be top-notch, particularly regarding cleanliness. The vault toilets are specifically mentioned as being exceptionally clean and well-maintained, a significant positive as vault toilets in campgrounds can often be a point of concern. Reviewers note that these facilities are cleaned and stocked every day. The absence of "scary bugs or tons of spiderwebs" is also highlighted, suggesting effective pest management and regular upkeep. Each campsite is described as "huge," offering ample space for campers to spread out. One reviewer with a camper noted that the adjacent campsite was far enough away that their generator could not be heard, indicating good separation between sites in at least some areas. Every site is equipped with standard camping amenities such as fire rings and tables.
A key feature of Lightning Tree Campground is its spaciousness, with one review noting that the campground was full during their visit, yet the sites still felt large and private. Another review mentions that the campground has approximately 40 sites, with about half of them being double sites large enough for two tents (though not necessarily two cars, implying potential limitations on vehicle parking per site). The proximity to Lake Coot Cove is also a significant feature. One reviewer mentions Coot Cove as a great free day-access point to the lake, providing an alternative if campers don't utilize the trail from the campground to the shore. This suggests that the lake is a central attraction, offering opportunities for various water-related activities, although specifics are not provided.
The camp hosts at Lightning Tree Campground are described as "very friendly" and helpful. One reviewer specifically mentions "Mr. Ron, the site manager," as a "great guy with lots of great info" who makes an effort to connect with campers to ensure they are having a good experience. This positive interaction with the campground management contributes significantly to the overall positive atmosphere and sense of care at the location.
Based on the provided reviews, Lightning Tree Campground seems to prioritize the camper experience and the preservation of the natural scenery over maximizing profits. This philosophy is evident in the cleanliness, spaciousness, and the overall well-maintained condition of the campground. The reviewers express a strong desire to return, with one family stating they feel they've "uncovered a hidden gem" and plan to make visiting an annual tradition. This level of positive feedback speaks volumes about the quality of the campground.

Lightning Tree campground Reviews
Best camping ground we have been to in years! Super clean! I was so impressed with how well these grounds are taken care of. Vault toilets that weren't disgusting. They are cleaned and stocked everyday. No scary bugs or tons of spiderweb. Huge spaces. These pictures are from all angels around my site and the campground was full. The campsite next to us was far enough away to not be able to hear our generator. Finally, a place to stretch out. I could see the lake from my camper, and across from our spot was an open meadow. There are so many deer here. Be careful on the drive, as the last count on my most recent drive was 20. You can get to town in about 20 mins to stock on ice or even go out to pizza. Coot Cove is a great free day access to the lake if for some reason you don't take the trail from the site to the shore. Clearly this site isn't all about making money and is all about the scenery. The camp hosts were very friendly. We feel like we've uncovered a hidden gem and can't wait to make it a family tradition to come here often. One of our very best camping experiences!
