Beech Fork Campgrounds Introduce
For local users in West Virginia and surrounding areas searching within the "camping near me" category, Beech Fork Campgrounds, located at 5601 Long Branch Rd, Barboursville, WV 25504, USA, presents a mixed but potentially appealing option, especially for families with young children. The campground is situated within Beech Fork State Park, known for its recreational lake and scenic beauty. However, recent reviews highlight both positive and negative aspects that potential visitors should consider.
The environment of Beech Fork Campgrounds is undoubtedly a key draw, being located within a state park that typically boasts natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities. The presence of a lake is a significant feature, usually offering possibilities for swimming, fishing, boating, and lakeside relaxation. One reviewer specifically mentioned making a reservation for a "lake view campsite," indicating the desirability of sites with water views. However, this same reviewer also noted a significant issue: "They neglected to tell us they had drained the lake." This suggests that the availability and condition of the lake, a primary environmental attraction, can vary, and it is crucial for potential campers to inquire about the lake's status before making a reservation. The second reviewer, who loves their stays, mentions staying in the "four coves," implying that the campground might be organized into different sections or loops around coves of the lake, potentially offering varying environments and access to amenities.
Despite the lake issue, the second reviewer highlights several positive aspects of the campground's environment and features, particularly for families. The presence of "several playgrounds" is a significant amenity for those camping with toddlers and young children, providing dedicated spaces for recreation and entertainment within easy reach of the campsites. The overall park setting offers ample opportunities for outdoor exploration, such as hiking trails and nature observation.
The services and features of Beech Fork Campgrounds, based on the reviews, include:
- Lake view campsites (availability dependent on lake conditions): The option for campsites with views of Beech Fork Lake, although the lake's water level can fluctuate.
- Playgrounds: Multiple playgrounds within the park, making it family-friendly. The proximity of these playgrounds to the "four coves" camping area is noted as a positive.
- Clean bathhouses: A significant advantage highlighted by a recurring visitor is that "The bath houses are always so clean" and are located within a "short walk" from the campsites. Clean and accessible restroom and shower facilities are essential for a comfortable camping experience.
- Well-maintained campground: The overall campground is described as "always so well maintained," suggesting that the grounds are kept tidy and in good condition for visitors.
- Quiet atmosphere at night: Despite being potentially busy ("even when it looks quite busy"), the campground is reported to be "still very quiet at night," which is conducive to a restful sleep after a day of outdoor activities.
- Reservation system: The first reviewer mentions making a reservation with "an actual human being," indicating that reservations are accepted, likely via phone.
However, the first review also raises a critical concern regarding the road conditions leading to the park: "The road to the park is in incredible disrepair, narrow & windy with hairpin turns." This is a significant piece of information for potential visitors, especially those driving larger vehicles or towing campers, as the challenging road conditions could impact travel time and safety. It is something that local users familiar with the area might already know, but newcomers should be aware of.
Regarding promotional information, the reviews do not mention any specific discounts or special offers. The first reviewer felt that the draining of the lake warranted a discount, which they did not receive, suggesting that proactive communication about such significant environmental changes and potential price adjustments might be lacking. Local users should inquire about the current status of the lake and any applicable discounts or policies regarding such situations when making a reservation.
The second reviewer's repeated positive experiences ("We love our stays here! We’ve stayed in the four coves both times... We will definitely be back again!") indicate a high level of satisfaction, particularly for families with toddlers who appreciate the proximity to playgrounds and the overall family-friendly environment. This positive feedback suggests that despite the potential issue with the lake and the challenging road conditions, Beech Fork Campgrounds offers a pleasant and suitable camping experience for many.
In conclusion, Beech Fork Campgrounds in Barboursville, West Virginia, offers a family-friendly "camping near me" option within a scenic state park environment. Key positives include the proximity to Beech Fork Lake (though its condition should be verified), the presence of multiple playgrounds, consistently clean bathhouses, a well-maintained campground, and a quiet nighttime atmosphere. However, potential visitors should be aware of the reported poor condition of the road leading to the park and the possibility of the lake being drained. Local users are advised to call the provided phone numbers – (304) 528-5794 or +1 304-528-5794 – to inquire about the current status of the lake, road conditions, specific campsite amenities, reservation policies, and any potential discounts, especially if the lake's condition is a primary factor in their camping plans. Despite the mixed feedback, the campground appears to be a popular choice for families seeking a recreational getaway with convenient access to park amenities.

Beech Fork Campgrounds Reviews
Stopping over for just one night thankfully. The road to the park is in incredible disrepair, narrow & windy with hairpin turns. We made a reservation with an actual human being for a lake view campsite. They neglected to tell us they had drained the lake. Surely that warrants a discount? No would never come back here!

Apr 28, 2024 · Miranda McKnightWV is a beautiful state in the fall. We had some business in Huntington so this was not a pleasure trip but we were pleased to find such a nice camp. Easy access, most sanitary dump stations we have ever seen. Quiet but we were there off season. $48/night for electric only as non=residents, $65ish I believe for full hookups. WV State does not support their parks which is one of the reasons it is more $$$. We were backed up on a water feature but it was very very low so not very attractive but would be if full.
Oct 15, 2024 · Phae DrusOne of the most beautiful campgrounds I have ever stayed in! Campsite was right on the lake with a perfect view of the sunset. There weren't a lot of bugs, everything was clean and it was quiet at night. 11/10!
Jun 27, 2024 · Kyra BowenThis is one of the best campgrounds I have ever been to. The sites are a nice size. They have nice trails and summer activities for the children. They have a camp store and a game room where the office is located. The only downfall is that there is limited full hookup sites and those sites are on top of each other. They recently added more water sites to Moxley which is nice. The rest of the sites is electric only but still nice sites with lots of waterfront sites. Staff is amazing. Before I end, a little advice, do not feed the geese. They are everywhere and they will hangout at wherever they are fed. I have spent a good hour just cleaning up after them before I could set up camp. I wish half of them would migrate elsewhere. I forgot to mention that beechfork also has a public pool. Campers still have to pay full price for pool entry. I think that should be changed to where campers only have to pay half to get into the pool. Beechfork is my #1 campground.
