Big Bend Campground

12 Prowler Dr, Cabins, WV 26855, USA

4.0
My boyfriend found this campsite and it was such an amazing experience! The camp hosts (Debbie and Jean), are so kind and can answer pretty much any question you have. The campsites feel very private but it’s easy to talk to your neighbors ! Everyone was so friendly and you can even tube on the river surrounding the campgrounds. There is a store about 20 mins prior to the campsite, and you’ll lose service around there (though it was so nice to be disconnected!). The only reason it doesn’t have five stars is that I would recommend bringing your own water! - Genovi Jones

Big Bend Campground Introduce

For local users seeking an unforgettable "camping near me" experience that combines the tranquility of nature with exciting outdoor activities, Big Bend Campground, located at 12 Prowler Dr, Cabins, WV 26855, USA, comes highly recommended by seasoned campers. This beloved campground, cherished by visitors for decades, offers a unique blend of riverside relaxation, adventurous recreation, and a welcoming community atmosphere, making it an ideal getaway for families, friends, and solo adventurers alike.

One of the most consistently praised aspects of Big Bend Campground is its exceptional environment and the array of activities it offers. Situated alongside a clean mountain river, the campground provides opportunities for tubing, a favorite pastime among visitors. The gentle flow of the river surrounding the campgrounds makes for a refreshing and enjoyable experience for all ages. Adding to the fun is a rope swing, a classic riverside attraction that promises excitement and memorable moments. For those who enjoy exploring on foot, Big Bend Campground boasts tons of beautiful trails suitable for casual walks, allowing campers to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of West Virginia.

The river isn't just for leisurely floats and playful swings; it's also a prime spot for fishing. Even novice anglers have reported success in catching fish in the clean mountain waters, making it a relaxing and rewarding activity for all skill levels. The experience of fishing in such a pristine environment adds another layer to the appeal of Big Bend Campground.

The campground itself is divided into different loops, each offering a slightly different experience. The "river loop" is particularly recommended for families with children, suggesting that the campsites in this area are conveniently located near the river access and perhaps offer a more communal and kid-friendly atmosphere. For those seeking breathtaking panoramic views, the "upper loop on the ridge" is the preferred choice. From these campsites, visitors can enjoy immaculate vistas of the surrounding landscape, providing a stunning backdrop to their camping experience.

The atmosphere at Big Bend Campground is frequently described as friendly and welcoming. The camp hosts, Debbie and Jean, are consistently mentioned for their kindness and helpfulness, readily answering any questions campers may have. This personal touch from the hosts contributes significantly to the positive experience reported by visitors. While the campsites offer a sense of privacy, there's also an easy camaraderie among neighbors, fostering a friendly community spirit within the campground.

Big Bend Campground embraces its remote location, offering a true escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As one reviewer noted, the remoteness is a significant draw, providing a welcome opportunity to disconnect from technology and immerse oneself in nature. It's worth noting that cell phone service tends to be lost about 20 minutes before reaching the campsite, which many visitors appreciate as part of the "unplugging" experience.

While the overall experience at Big Bend Campground is overwhelmingly positive, one practical recommendation from a visitor is to bring your own water. This suggests that while water may be available, its quality or accessibility at individual campsites might vary, making it prudent for campers to come prepared with their own supply to ensure comfort and convenience.

For any necessities that campers may have forgotten or run out of, Shreve's store is conveniently located outside the campground. This store is described as having everything one might need, from basic camping supplies to local treats like ice cream and a selection of local beers. This nearby amenity adds a layer of convenience without detracting from the campground's remote and natural feel.

The enduring popularity of Big Bend Campground is evident in the testimonials of repeat visitors. One reviewer shared their family's tradition of camping here since the early 1990s, and now, as an adult, they continue to visit with their own friends and family. This multi-generational appeal speaks volumes about the consistent quality and the cherished memories created at Big Bend Campground. The anticipation of the annual trip highlights the special place this campground holds in the hearts of its visitors.

In summary, Big Bend Campground offers local users seeking "camping near me" a remarkable opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities in a friendly and welcoming environment. Its location along a clean mountain river provides the perfect setting for tubing, fishing, and enjoying the scenic beauty. With options for both a family-friendly river loop and an upper loop boasting stunning views, the campground caters to different preferences. The kind and helpful camp hosts, coupled with the sense of community among campers, enhance the overall experience. While the remote setting encourages a digital detox, the nearby Shreve's store offers convenience for any last-minute needs.
