Big Creek Campground Introduce
For local residents and visitors seeking "camping near me" in a serene forest setting with convenient access to the majestic Mount Rainier National Park, Big Creek Campground, located in Ashford, WA 98304, USA, offers a delightful option. Situated close to the park entrance, this campground provides a peaceful escape into nature while keeping the wonders of Mount Rainier within easy reach. Based on recent customer reviews, Big Creek Campground stands out for its friendly camp host, well-maintained facilities, and lush forest environment.
One of the most prominent features of Big Creek Campground, consistently highlighted by visitors, is the exceptional service provided by the camp host, Annette. Her dedication to ensuring a pleasant camping experience goes above and beyond expectations. Reviewers specifically praised her accommodating and super helpful nature. One camper recounted how Annette added "special touches" to the maintenance of the vault toilets, including checking them regularly, ensuring they were well-stocked with toilet paper (even folding the edges!), and spraying air freshener to enhance the user experience. This level of care and attention to detail in maintaining even basic facilities like vault toilets is a significant positive aspect of Big Creek Campground.
The campsites themselves at Big Creek Campground offer a range of experiences. One reviewer who stayed at campsite #16 described it as spacious, beautiful, and well-balanced in terms of shade and sunlight ("neither too dark nor too exposed"). Its location was also deemed ideal, being conveniently close to both the toilet and a water spigot. This suggests that careful consideration has been given to the layout and placement of campsites to maximize comfort and accessibility for campers. Another reviewer noted campsite #7, specifically mentioning its picturesque location right next to the creek, adding to the scenic appeal of the campground.
For those unfamiliar with the term, the reviews clarify that Big Creek Campground utilizes vault toilets. These are described as permanent structures in areas without running water that store waste in a sealed underground tank. Importantly, they are designed with vent pipes that facilitate air flow out through the ceiling, effectively keeping the toilets fresh and odor-free. The positive feedback regarding the cleanliness of these vault toilets, with one reviewer expressing surprise at encountering a "clean pit toilet," underscores the effectiveness of their maintenance at Big Creek Campground.
A significant advantage of Big Creek Campground for those planning to visit Mount Rainier National Park is its proximity to the park entrance. One reviewer specifically mentioned that it serves as a valuable "last minute stop" for campers who might not have been able to secure a campsite within the park itself. Its location allows for easy access into Mount Rainier, even before the timed entry reservation requirement comes into effect. This makes Big Creek Campground an excellent alternative for those wanting to explore the park without the stress of securing in-park lodging or facing entry restrictions.
While the campsites are described as being on the "small side" and "close together," the overall ambiance of the campground is characterized as a "peaceful lush forest." This trade-off suggests that while privacy between sites might be somewhat limited, the immersive experience of being surrounded by a beautiful and tranquil forest environment compensates for the proximity of neighbors. The presence of "potable water spigots" throughout the campground ensures that campers have easy access to a vital resource.
The exceptional service from the camp host, Annette, appears to be a recurring highlight of the visitor experience at Big Creek Campground. One reviewer recounted how Annette remembered them and went "above and beyond" to help them secure a second night's stay on short notice. This level of personal attention and willingness to assist guests further enhances the appeal of this campground, making visitors feel welcomed and cared for.
Considering the positive aspects highlighted in the reviews, Big Creek Campground offers a compelling option for local users seeking "camping near me," particularly those interested in visiting Mount Rainier National Park. Its key features include a convenient location near the park entrance, a peaceful and lush forest environment, well-maintained vault toilets, potable water access, and, most notably, the exceptional service of the camp host, Annette. While the campsites might be somewhat close together, the overall positive experiences shared by visitors suggest that the benefits outweigh this potential drawback.
For local campers looking for a reliable and pleasant camping experience near Mount Rainier, Big Creek Campground presents a strong case. Its proximity to the park allows for easy exploration of its natural wonders, while the campground itself offers a tranquil forest setting. The dedication of the camp host to ensuring guest comfort and the surprisingly well-maintained facilities contribute to a positive and memorable stay. Whether you are planning a last-minute trip to Mount Rainier or seeking a peaceful forest getaway, Big Creek Campground is worth considering.

Big Creek Campground Reviews
We spent two nights at Big Creek Campground, campsite #16. Our camp host, Annette, was fantastic. Besides being accommodating and super helpful, she added special touches to the maintenance of the toilets! Late in the afternoon, she would go around on her golf cart to check the vault toilets, ensure there was enough toilet paper, fold the edges of the toilet paper rolls, and spray air freshener to make the experience more pleasant. Thank you, Annette. As for the campsite #16 itself, we were very happy with our spot. It was spacious, beautiful, and neither too dark nor too exposed. Its location was also ideal, being near the toilet and water. We noticed that campsite #7, if I remember correctly, is right next to the creek. When we drove around the loop, it looked very pretty.Vault toilets*: Permanent structures in areas without running water that store waste in a sealed underground tank. Vent pipes keep the toilets fresh and odor-free by allowing air to flow out through the ceiling.
Jun 23, 2024 · Piyawee RuenjindaThis was a last minute stop so if you can’t get a camp spot in Mt. Ranier, this campground is very close and you can easily get into Mt. Ranier before the reserve timed entry requirement. Camp spots are on the small side close together, but you’re in peaceful lush forest, and there is potable water spigots.Highlight of our visit was camp host Annette was awesomely helpful, she went above and beyond as she remembered us and followed up to help us secure a second night on short notice!I never thought it would be possible to come across a clean pit toilet!
Jul 27, 2024 · Khanh DuongStayed here for two night in July. Great little campsite. Lots of bugs, carry bug spray. Toilets are pits mostly. Creek runs behind the campground and feels so relaxed to sit and chill! :)
Jul 16, 2024 · Arpitha Rao AnnajiNice campground, small spots, and only 2 are actually on the river. The rest are just woodsy. I had cell service the entire time. The camp host was friendly and was always stocking the vault toilet bathrooms
Jun 28, 2024 · Lydia BaldwinThis campground has it all: clean pit toilets, hiking inside the grounds, privacy, a few miles from Mt Rainier Park, water…. Even though the actual individual sites are small (I have a 8x6 tent that barely fit), I never saw my neighbors due to the amount of trees between each site! The camp host was around at least 3x a day. It was dead quiet by 10pm. No parties or loud people ever. I was here June 30- July 2
