Big Rock Campground Introduce
For local users in West Virginia and surrounding regions searching for "camping near me," Big Rock Campground, located in Richwood, WV 26261, USA, offers a potentially beautiful and memorable camping experience along the Cranberry River. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground appears to be a cherished spot for nature enthusiasts and those seeking a traditional camping experience, whether in a tent or an RV. While specific details about all services and features are somewhat limited and contradictory in the reviews, a general picture of its appeal can be drawn.
One enthusiastic camper describes Big Rock Campground as "one of the most beautiful spots on Cranberry." This immediately highlights the campground's prime location along the scenic Cranberry River, suggesting a natural environment rich in beauty and opportunities for riverside activities. The reviewer explicitly states that it is a "great place for tent or RV camping," directly addressing the needs of a wide range of campers searching under the "camping near me" category. Their personal experience of spending "many memorable nights sitting around a campfire with friends and family over the years" underscores the campground's suitability for creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of community and connection with loved ones in a natural setting. The strong sentiment expressed ("One of my favorite places") speaks volumes about the positive experiences this camper has consistently had at Big Rock Campground.
This same reviewer also addresses some potentially conflicting information they encountered, possibly from other online sources or outdated information ("I don't know where Explorer Mike gets that it's not suitable for RVs. Also, I don't know where the 13 sites on different levels comes from either. It's one level and only a handful of sites."). This clarification is crucial for potential visitors, indicating that Big Rock Campground is indeed suitable for RVs, contrary to some possible misinformation. Furthermore, they correct the notion of "13 sites on different levels," stating that the campground is "one level and only a handful of sites." This suggests a smaller, perhaps more intimate camping setting compared to larger, more developed campgrounds. This smaller scale could appeal to those seeking a quieter and more personal connection with nature.
Another reviewer provides a concise but important piece of information regarding connectivity: "No cell service but if you like nature your happy." This is a significant point for potential visitors to consider. The lack of cell service implies a true escape from the digital world, allowing for a deeper immersion in the natural surroundings. For those specifically seeking a digital detox and a focus on the outdoors, this could be a major advantage. The caveat "if you like nature your happy" reinforces the idea that Big Rock Campground's primary appeal lies in its natural environment and the tranquility it offers.
Based on these reviews, we can infer the following about the environment, services, and features of Big Rock Campground:
- Riverside Location: Situated on the Cranberry River, offering potentially beautiful scenery, the sounds of flowing water, and possible opportunities for water-based activities (though not explicitly mentioned). The Cranberry River is known for its natural beauty in the Monongahela National Forest region.
- Suitability for Tent Camping: Explicitly mentioned as a "great place for tent... camping," suggesting designated or suitable areas for pitching tents.
- Suitability for RV Camping: Also explicitly mentioned as a "great place for... RV camping," indicating that the campground can accommodate recreational vehicles. The type and availability of RV hookups (electrical, water, sewer) are not specified.
- Campfires Allowed: The mention of "sitting around a campfire" suggests that campfires are permitted and are a central part of the camping experience at Big Rock Campground.
- Limited Number of Sites: Described as "only a handful of sites" and "one level," indicating a smaller and potentially less crowded campground.
- Emphasis on Nature: The lack of cell service and the positive comments about the beauty of the location suggest that the primary focus is on enjoying the natural environment.
- Potentially Basic Amenities: Given the limited information and the focus on nature, the amenities might be more basic, such as pit toilets and a water source. Details on specific amenities like restrooms, showers, or picnic tables are not provided.
Promotional information is not available in the provided reviews. It is unknown if Big Rock Campground offers any discounts, seasonal rates, or special packages.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who are drawn to the beauty of the Cranberry River and seek a potentially quieter, more nature-focused camping experience suitable for both tents and RVs, Big Rock Campground is worth considering. The lack of cell service should be factored in for those who need to stay connected. The smaller number of sites suggests that it might be wise to inquire about availability, especially during peak camping seasons.
To obtain more specific information about Big Rock Campground, such as the exact number and types of sites, the availability of RV hookups, the amenities offered, and any potential fees or reservation procedures, local users should attempt to find contact information for the campground. This might involve:

Big Rock Campground Reviews
This is one of the most beautiful spots on Cranberry. Great place for tent or RV camping. I have spent many memorable nights sitting around a campfire with friends and family over the years. One of my favorite places. I don't know where Explorer Mike gets that it's not suitable for RVs. Also, I don't know where the 13 sites on different levels comes from either. It's one level and only a handful of sites. Can't emphasize enough how much I love this place.

Apr 13, 2022 · Angela WhiteBeautiful!! Have directions downloaded ahead of time bc its the WILDERNESS. Camp sites right on the cranberry river. Be prepared for as many scenarios as possible since help may not be near and alert to weather bc rain can cause sudden rise of the river. Do your home work and have a plan. Hat said its we'll worth the effort.
Sep 28, 2022 · Your NameThis is a county parks owned and maintained nice rustic campground. It is good for tent camping, but not recommended for fifth wheels or RV because it would be a nightmare trying to get the big vehicles in the small spaces. No electricity or water hook ups. Pit toilets. Hand pump for water. The camp ground is built on the side of a hill and has two levels. Both have very attractive campsites that are spacious. Each campsite has a picnic table. At the bottom of the hill is a trout river that runs with crystal clear water. This campsite is a real treasure. There are only 13 campsites available and it is only first come, first serve. Honor system payment. Richly wooded and shaded. Natural and nice setting.
