New Camp Campground Introduce
Looking for a campground near the Salton Sea in Mecca, California? New Camp Campground, located at 99620 Tripoli Dr, Mecca, CA 92254, USA, offers a paid camping experience that has garnered both praise and a notable caution from recent visitors, making it a point of interest within the "Camping Near Me" category. Based on the available customer reviews, this introduction aims to provide local users with a detailed and objective overview of the environment, services, and features of New Camp Campground, ensuring a comprehensive understanding before making a decision.
One of the most appealing aspects of New Camp Campground is its picturesque location "situated near the Salton Sea." This proximity suggests potential access to the unique and somewhat surreal landscape of the Salton Sea, which can be a draw for those seeking a distinctive camping environment within the "Camping Near Me" platform. While the specific views or direct access points aren't fully elaborated upon in this initial statement, the mention of the Salton Sea hints at a potentially interesting natural setting.
In terms of campsite features, one reviewer who booked site 43 with hookup described it as "spacious." This is a significant advantage for campers, especially those with larger tents or RVs, who appreciate having ample room to set up and move around their site. However, this reviewer also noted that their site had "minimal shade and open area," which is important for potential visitors to consider, especially during the hot desert climate of the Mecca region. The lack of shade could make daytime activities at the campsite less comfortable during warmer months. It's worth noting that campsite characteristics can vary, so this observation might not apply to all sites within the campground.
The helpfulness and friendliness of the campground staff are highlighted by the same reviewer, who mentioned that the "Ranger here is nice and helpful." Positive interactions with campground staff can greatly enhance the overall camping experience, providing assistance and information that can be invaluable during a stay. This aspect contributes positively to the overall appeal of New Camp Campground within the "Camping Near Me" category.
Cleanliness of facilities is another positive point, with the reviewer noting that "the restroom is kept clean and trash is picked up daily by them." Maintaining clean restrooms and regular trash disposal are essential for a comfortable and hygienic camping environment, and this feedback suggests that New Camp Campground prioritizes these aspects for its guests.
However, a significant drawback mentioned by the first reviewer is the frequent noise from a nearby railroad. They stated that the "railroad and the train passing by so frequently, even at night and morning" was bothersome. They explicitly advised that "if you are a lite sleeper, then I would not recommend this Campground" because "the sound of the train can be quite loud." This noise issue was severe enough that they "couldn't sleep at all on the first night." This is a critical factor for potential visitors to consider, as noise pollution can significantly detract from the restful nature typically sought during a camping trip. For those prioritizing peace and quiet when searching "Camping Near Me," the proximity to an active railway is a serious concern.
In contrast to the shade limitations mentioned for site 43, another reviewer who stayed at site 47 had an overwhelmingly positive experience, describing the place as "awesome for a paid campground." They were particularly impressed by the layout of the sites, stating that their spot was so large ("huge site") that they "could have put two Casita travel trailers with trucks" in it. This reinforces the idea that the campsites at New Camp Campground are generally spacious, which is a significant benefit for many campers within the "Camping Near Me" user base.
The second reviewer also detailed the amenities included for the $20 per night fee (at the time of their review), which adds valuable information about the services and features of New Camp Campground. These include:
- A "huge concrete picnic table," providing a durable and convenient space for outdoor meals and activities.
- A "ramada," offering shade and shelter from the sun, which directly contradicts the "minimal shade" noted at site 43, suggesting variability between sites.
- A "fire pit," essential for campfires and outdoor cooking (where permitted).
- "Very easy access to potable water," a crucial amenity for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.
- "Trash" facilities, supporting the daily pickup mentioned by the other reviewer.
- An "RV dump," a necessary service for RV campers to dispose of wastewater.
- "Hot showers," a significant comfort and convenience, especially for longer stays.
- A "beautiful beach with tables & ramadas," indicating direct or very close access to the Salton Sea shoreline, complete with additional amenities for enjoying the beach area.
This detailed list of amenities paints a picture of a well-equipped campground that offers significant value for its paid sites. The presence of hot showers and RV dump facilities makes it particularly appealing for RV travelers browsing "Camping Near Me." The access to a beach with tables and ramadas further enhances its appeal as a recreational destination.
The second reviewer also noted that the campground was "very quiet during the week," which suggests that the train noise might be less disruptive during certain times, or that the overall weekday atmosphere is more peaceful. This could be relevant for local users who have flexibility in their camping schedules.
In summary, New Camp Campground offers several attractive features for those searching within the "Camping Near Me" category:
- Spacious Campsites: With at least some sites being exceptionally large.
- Hookups: Available at some sites, as mentioned by one reviewer.
- Potable Water Access: Easily accessible throughout the campground.
- RV Dump: A significant convenience for RV travelers.
- Hot Showers: Providing comfort and hygiene.
- Salton Sea Access: With a "beautiful beach" and amenities like tables and ramadas.
- Picnic Tables and Fire Pits: Standard amenities for enjoying the campsite.
- Helpful Staff: With a Ranger described as nice and helpful.
- Clean Facilities: Restrooms are kept clean, and trash is picked up daily.
- Quiet During the Week: Potentially offering a more peaceful experience during weekdays.
However, the significant drawback is the frequent and loud noise from the nearby railroad, which can be particularly disruptive at night and in the morning, potentially leading to sleepless nights for light sleepers. The availability of shade can also vary between campsites.
Promotional information is limited to the $20 per night fee mentioned by one reviewer, which, given the amenities provided, suggests a reasonable value for a paid campground experience in the area.
For local users exploring "Camping Near Me" and considering New Camp Campground, it is crucial to weigh the numerous amenities and the spaciousness of the sites against the potential disturbance from the train noise. If you are a heavy sleeper or plan to camp during the quieter weekdays, the campground appears to offer a well-equipped and conveniently located base for exploring the Salton Sea area. However, light sleepers might find the noise level unacceptable. It would be beneficial to inquire about the specific location of campsites relative to the railroad tracks when booking, if possible, to make a more informed decision. Despite the noise concern, the positive feedback regarding the facilities, staff, and overall value suggests that New Camp Campground is a worthwhile consideration for those seeking a more structured and amenity-rich camping experience near the Salton Sea.

Feb 13, 2024 · Sailor JoanThis place is awesome for a paid campground. Sites are layed out perfectly, I could have put two Casita travel trailers with trucks in my spot #47. $20 per night includes a huge site complete with a huge concrete picnic table, a ramada, a fire pit as well as very easy access to potable water and trash, RV dump, hot showers and and a beautiful beach with tables & ramadas. Very quiet during the week. Paid camping isn't my usual style but all in all this was wonderful experience.

Nov 24, 2022 · katerina IgolkaWish all campgrounds were so spacious and clean. The restrooms have running water , flushable toilets , soap , tiles , light and solar panels, you name it. There are shower, equally fancy but you need to gave registration. We were there first come first serve. The stuff was very kind and helpful. Best spots are 48, 49, 50 with the lake Salton Sea View. Campground is close to lake but far enough so you don't feel the smell . No secret here, that lake it's not clean but you're not here to swim . It's a great base if you wanna go and visit Bombay Beach about 10 min drive away.Bring ear plugs. Bring ear plugs. Bring ear plugs. Good ones. The train is loud and runs throughout all night.Overall, we had great time. Will definitely come back.
