Headquarters Campground Introduce
Seeking a camping location near Mecca, California? Headquarters Campground, situated at an unspecified address within Mecca, CA 92254, USA (phone: (760) 393-3052, mobile: +1 760-393-3052), presents itself as a potential option within the "Camping Near Me" category. Based on the available customer reviews, this introduction aims to provide local users with a detailed and objective overview of the environment, services, and features of Headquarters Campground, highlighting both its advantages and potential drawbacks.
One of the most significant environmental factors to consider at Headquarters Campground, as explicitly stated by a reviewer, is the proximity of a railroad. Located approximately 250 feet from the camping area, this railroad is characterized by "long, heavy and noise 24/7." This is a critical piece of information for potential visitors, particularly those sensitive to noise. The constant presence of train traffic could significantly impact the tranquility of the camping experience. For individuals searching within the "Camping Near Me" platform for a peaceful retreat, the persistent noise from the nearby railroad is a factor that warrants careful consideration.
Despite the potential noise issue, another reviewer shared a positive initial impression of Headquarters Campground, stating that they would "probably stay longer as there's much to hike and bike thru." This suggests that the campground is situated in an area offering ample opportunities for outdoor recreational activities such as hiking and biking. This could be a major draw for active individuals and families exploring "Camping Near Me" with a focus on engaging in these types of activities. The presence of trails and suitable terrain for hiking and biking can significantly enhance the appeal of a campground for outdoor enthusiasts.
Adding to the positive aspects of Headquarters Campground, a reviewer specifically praised the "arrangement of the water, power and sewer" hookups within what they specified as "Headquarters Camp." They noted that these utilities are "excellent" and "spaced properly apart." This is particularly relevant for RV campers looking for well-organized and functional utility connections. The availability and quality of water, power, and sewer hookups are often key considerations for RV travelers browsing the "Camping Near Me" category, and positive feedback in this area suggests a well-maintained and user-friendly infrastructure for RVs at Headquarters Campground.
Further positive feedback comes from a traveler who uses a reverse osmosis system in their RV. They reported that Headquarters Campground had "some of the lowest TDS readings I've seen anywhere." TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) in water is a measure of the combined content of all inorganic and organic substances contained in a liquid. Low TDS readings generally indicate high water purity. This is a significant advantage for RVers concerned about water quality and can be a notable feature for those prioritizing clean water during their camping stay. This detail could be particularly appealing to long-term RV travelers or those with specific water quality requirements when searching "Camping Near Me."
Based on the available reviews, we can summarize the environment, services, and features of Headquarters Campground as follows:
- Environment: The campground is located near a railroad with significant and constant noise. However, the surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking and biking, suggesting access to natural landscapes and trails. The specific type of terrain or vegetation is not detailed.
- Services: For RV campers, the campground offers well-arranged and functional water, power, and sewer hookups. The water quality, as indicated by low TDS readings, is reported to be excellent. Information regarding other potential services such as restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, or Wi-Fi is not available in the provided reviews. The positive mention of a "Ranger" suggests the presence of campground staff who can offer welcome and information to visitors.
- Features: The primary features highlighted are the access to hiking and biking trails and the quality of the RV utility hookups, including the excellent water quality. The nearby railroad, while a source of noise, is also a defining characteristic of the location. Other potential features, such as picnic tables, fire pits, or recreational areas, are not mentioned.
Promotional information is absent from the provided reviews. There are no mentions of special rates, seasonal offers, or unique attractions being promoted by Headquarters Campground.
In conclusion, Headquarters Campground near Mecca, CA, offers a mixed bag for potential visitors within the "Camping Near Me" category. On the positive side, it appears to be a good base for those interested in hiking and biking in the surrounding area. For RV campers, the well-arranged utility hookups and the notably high quality of the water are significant advantages. The presence of a Ranger suggests some level of on-site management and assistance.
However, the major drawback highlighted in the reviews is the constant and significant noise from the nearby railroad, operating 24/7. This is a crucial factor that could deter many campers seeking a peaceful outdoor experience. Potential visitors must carefully consider their tolerance for noise when evaluating Headquarters Campground.
To make an informed decision, local users searching "Camping Near Me" should weigh the benefits of the recreational opportunities and the quality of RV utilities against the significant potential disruption from the train noise. Further investigation might be beneficial to ascertain the specific nature of the hiking and biking trails, the availability of other amenities, and perhaps any strategies the campground might have in place to mitigate the noise (though the 24/7 nature suggests this might be difficult). Contacting the campground directly using the provided phone numbers could provide additional information not available in these brief reviews.

Headquarters Campground Reviews
The railroad about 250f from you. Long, heavy and noise 24/7.
Jan 28, 2025 · Avi BaramToday was my first day here and I'll probably stay longer as there's much to hike and bike thru. Thank you to the Ranger for the welcome and info!!The arrangement of the water, power and sewer is excellent, spaced properly apart. ( In Headquarters Camp )Edit: I travel with a reverse osmosis system in my RV and this place had some of the lowest TDS readings I've seen anywhere. 👍🏻
Jun 14, 2023 · J GThe pros: full hook ups, relatively level parking spots, if you park just right you can get a view of Salton Sea from your rig. Dark skies. Unfortunately, the Salton Sea is dying, the beach has toxins that are unsafe for dogs and I have to think also for humans. While birdwatching is a good activity here and there are hiking trails, there's not much else to do. The cons: trains run close to the road and campground and many will sound their horns right near the campground. This makes sleep without earplugs virtually impossible. I came here for the $38 (with fees) full hook up for one night after Boondocking in the desert for a week. While I don't regret it, I probably could have found someplace a little bit better for me.
Jan 28, 2025 · Maria LangerDidn’t even plan on staying here, but after talking with the amazing staff at the visitor center and seeing what this place has to offer we changed our plans. Then ended up staying an extra night because it was so fantastic. The bathrooms and showers were clean and well stocked. Each site has a shelter and fire pit. There’s a paved nature trail that we actually saw some new birds on.It was a nice home base for exploring other attractions in the area that we wanted to visit.
