Chiriaco Summit Campground Introduce
For those in Singapore seeking "Camping Near Me" with an interest in exploring the unique desert landscapes of Southern California, particularly near Joshua Tree National Park, Chiriaco Summit Campground offers a convenient and resourceful option. Located at 62500 Chiriaco Rd, Indio, CA 92201, USA, this privately owned campground provides dry campsites for both RVs and tents, coupled with the convenience of nearby amenities. You can contact them at (760) 227-3227 ext. 213 or +1 760-227-3227 ext. 213 for inquiries.
Based on recent customer reviews, Chiriaco Summit Campground serves as a practical and reassuring rest stop, especially for travelers with larger RVs heading towards or away from Joshua Tree National Park. One reviewer described it as a "good rest stop" with a "small but cozy" cafe. The campground offers approximately 14 dry campsites suitable for cars and RVs up to 40 feet in length, along with one pull-through site designed for RVs exceeding 40 feet. Additionally, there are about four designated tent-only spots, catering to different camping preferences.
A key feature of Chiriaco Summit Campground is its "dry camping" setup, which means that individual campsites do not have direct hookups for water, electricity, or sewer. Campers staying here should be self-sufficient in terms of these resources. However, the campground compensates for this by providing access to restrooms located at the adjacent cafe and gas station. This convenience is particularly valuable for those who prefer not to rely solely on their RV's holding tanks or who are tent camping without onboard facilities.
Another significant advantage of Chiriaco Summit Campground, as highlighted by a reviewer, is the excellent cell phone reception. The presence of a cell tower within a quarter of a mile ensures full bars for mobile devices, which can be crucial for staying connected, planning routes, or in case of emergencies, especially in a relatively remote desert area. This is a notable benefit compared to some campgrounds in more secluded natural areas where cell service can be unreliable or non-existent.
The location of Chiriaco Summit Campground is both a convenience and a consideration. Situated in a relatively isolated area, approximately 40 miles away from other services in any direction, the on-site cafe and gas station provide essential resources. While one reviewer noted that food and gas might be "kind of pricey," the convenience of having these amenities readily available is a significant advantage, especially when traveling through this part of the Mojave Desert. For those seeking "Camping Near Me" that offers basic necessities without requiring a lengthy drive, Chiriaco Summit Campground fits the bill.
One reviewer shared their positive experience of choosing Chiriaco Summit Campground as an alternative to dispersed camping near Joshua Tree National Park with their 42-foot motor home. They expressed relief and satisfaction with their decision, highlighting that the privately owned campground felt "free" (presumably referring to a reasonable or expected cost), offered good distancing between campers, and was conveniently close to a convenience store, gas, and food. This testimonial underscores the campground's suitability for larger RVs and its strategic location for accessing the national park while providing essential amenities.
Based on these reviews, the key features and benefits of Chiriaco Summit Campground can be summarized as:
- Dry Campsites for RVs and Tents: Offering options for various camping styles.
- Pull-Through Site for Large RVs: Accommodating RVs over 40 feet, which can be crucial for travelers with bigger rigs.
- Access to Restrooms: Located at the nearby cafe and gas station, providing essential facilities for all campers.
- Excellent Cell Phone Reception: Due to a nearby cell tower, ensuring reliable connectivity.
- On-Site Cafe and Gas Station: Offering food and fuel, which is particularly convenient given the remote location.
- Proximity to Joshua Tree National Park: Serving as a convenient base for exploring the park and surrounding areas.
- Sense of Security and Convenience: As a privately owned campground with amenities, it can be a more comfortable option than dispersed camping, especially for larger RVs.
Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in the reviews. However, the implicit promotion lies in the campground's strategic location, its ability to accommodate large RVs, the availability of essential amenities in a remote area, and the strong cell phone service – all of which cater to specific needs of travelers in the region. For those searching for "Camping Near Me" that offers practicality and convenience near a major attraction like Joshua Tree National Park, Chiriaco Summit Campground presents a compelling offer.
For potential visitors from Singapore planning a trip to explore Joshua Tree National Park and looking for a convenient and reliable camping option, Chiriaco Summit Campground provides a practical solution. While it may not offer the full amenities of a resort-style RV park, its dry campsites, access to restrooms and essential supplies, and excellent cell reception make it a valuable stopover or basecamp. The fact that it can comfortably accommodate large RVs and offers a sense of security compared to dispersed camping further enhances its appeal for certain types of travelers.
When considering Chiriaco Summit Campground, it's important to be prepared for dry camping and to factor in the potential cost of food and gas at the on-site facilities. However, the convenience of these amenities in a remote location, coupled with the reliable cell service and proximity to Joshua Tree National Park, makes it a worthwhile option for those seeking a functional and well-connected camping experience in the Mojave Desert.
In conclusion, Chiriaco Summit Campground offers a unique blend of convenience and practicality for those seeking "Camping Near Me" near Joshua Tree National Park. Its dry campsites cater to both RV and tent campers, while the access to restrooms, an on-site cafe and gas station, and strong cell phone reception provide essential comforts in a remote desert environment. For travelers, especially those with larger RVs, looking for a reliable and well-connected base to explore the natural wonders of the region, Chiriaco Summit Campground is a valuable option to consider.

Chiriaco Summit Campground Reviews
Good rest stop. Small Cafe, but cozy. The Dry Campsite has about 14 spots for cars and RVs up to 40 feet, with one pull-through for an RV over 40 feet. It also has about 4 tent only spots. No facilities but there are rest rooms at the Cafe an gas station. There is a cell tower within 1/4 mile so reception is full bars. Food and gas are kind of pricey but there is nothing in any direction for about 40 miles.
Dec 31, 2024 · Joe KasselWe were a bit uncomfortable finding a dispersed camping site near Joshua Tree NP for our 42 ft motor home, so we came here. We are glad we did. It is privately owned, but free, well distanced from other campers, and close to convenience store, gas, food, etc. Cell reception is good.
Mar 05, 2025 · kurt reistGood place to overnight (dry camping) on the way. Camp host Paul is a nice guy. Good cell service, North side of Patton Museum.
Mar 29, 2025 · Ken D ArnoldGreat place to stop for one night. We stayed on our way back from a roadtrip to AZ. For camping near a freeway, it was much better than I expected. Spaces are big, have a fire ring and conveniently located near gas station and coffee shop.
Jun 10, 2024 · Kristina RustClose to the highway with no highway noise. There's a fosters freeze, a post office, an (overpriced) gas station, and the Patton museum is right there so you are camping right next to all of these cool retired tanks. The desert is a weird and awesome place.
