Tahquamenon Falls State Park Rivermouth Campgrounds Introduce
For local nature enthusiasts in Michigan seeking a memorable 'camping near me' experience, Tahquamenon Falls State Park Rivermouth Campgrounds, located at 32130 W South River Rd, Paradise, MI 49768, USA, offers a compelling destination. You can reach them at (800) 447-2757 or their mobile number, +1 800-447-2757, for inquiries and reservations. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground provides stunning river views, clean facilities, and a range of camping options within the renowned Tahquamenon Falls State Park.
One reviewer recounts a mostly positive experience, highlighting the scenic beauty of the location: "But, we had a beautiful view, a bathroom was close to us, the lot was big, and I appreciated the picnic table and fire pit!" This feedback emphasizes the picturesque environment of the Rivermouth Campgrounds, suggesting that campers can expect spacious sites with essential amenities like picnic tables and fire pits, all while enjoying beautiful views. The proximity of a bathroom is also noted as a convenience.
However, this reviewer also points out a logistical challenge they faced regarding firewood: "The only thing I was upset about, was nobody was there for us to buy firewood, and we didn't know where to get it at 9pm... Because all the little stores were closed.. we had no idea there is a 24hour firewood vending machine in the lower falls parking (Tahquamenon falls) ... So we drove 40 mins to Newberry, because they had a gas station open until midnight there.. but we didn't see anybody in the little camping office, all weekend we were there!" This indicates that while the natural setting and basic amenities are appreciated, there might be limited on-site staff presence, particularly outside of regular hours. For local users planning to arrive late or needing assistance after hours, this is an important consideration. The reviewer's discovery of a 24-hour firewood vending machine at the lower falls parking area is a helpful tip for future campers, although the lack of clear communication about this resource at the campground itself is noted as a drawback.
The same reviewer also suggests a potential improvement for firewood availability at the campground, recommending a firewood vending machine on-site or a more reliable system for purchasing wood, especially if staff are not consistently available: "If nobody is going to be there, and y'all are too scared to have the wood unlocked with a money drop box, maybe y'all should get one of them firewood vending machines!!!" This feedback can be valuable for the campground management and for local users to be aware of potential firewood procurement procedures.
Another reviewer shares an overwhelmingly positive experience during their stay in October, specifically at site 121 in the Rivermouth Pines rustic side: "Went here October 11-15 and absolutely loved it! Was at site 121 in the Rivermouth Pines rustic side. I was right by the vaulted toilet so that made things easy and the drive or walk to the modern side wasn’t bad." This indicates that the campground offers both rustic and modern camping options, catering to different preferences. The proximity to a vaulted toilet on the rustic side is noted as convenient, and the accessibility of the modern facilities is also highlighted.
This reviewer praises the cleanliness and safety of the campground: "Everything was clean and felt safe." These are crucial factors for local users when choosing a 'camping near me' destination, and positive feedback in these areas is very encouraging. The mention of "handicap accessible showers" in the modern bathrooms is also a significant positive, indicating that the campground strives to be inclusive and accommodate visitors with diverse needs. The reviewer also appreciates the privacy of the showers and the consistent availability of hot water: "The showers are private which I also like. I never ran out of hot water either and the bathrooms were always clean." These details contribute to a comfortable and pleasant camping experience.
The active presence of campground staff is also noted favorably: "Loved that the staff drove through often checking on things and cleaning the bathrooms." This reinforces the impression of a well-maintained and secure environment, addressing the concern raised by the first reviewer about the lack of on-site staff at certain times. It suggests that while there might be periods with limited office presence, the staff actively monitor the campground and ensure cleanliness.
The scenic beauty of the location is once again emphasized: "The view of the river is amazing. And there are many spots to enjoy the view! Will definitely come again." This reiterates that the riverfront setting is a major highlight of the Rivermouth Campgrounds, with ample opportunities for campers to appreciate the natural surroundings. The reviewer's strong intention to return further attests to the positive overall experience.
Tahquamenon Falls State Park itself is a significant attraction for local and non-local visitors alike. Known for its stunning waterfalls, including the Upper Falls, one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi, and the picturesque Lower Falls, the park offers numerous opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, and photography. Staying at the Rivermouth Campgrounds provides convenient access to these natural wonders. Local users searching for 'camping near me' with access to exceptional natural landmarks will find this location particularly appealing.
The park also boasts extensive hiking trails that wind through the forests and along the river, offering various levels of difficulty for different fitness levels. Wildlife viewing is another popular activity in the area. For local users who enjoy outdoor recreation beyond camping, such as hiking and nature observation, the location of the Rivermouth Campgrounds within Tahquamenon Falls State Park is a major draw.
In summary, Tahquamenon Falls State Park Rivermouth Campgrounds offers a compelling 'camping near me' option with beautiful river views, clean and well-maintained facilities (including modern bathrooms with private, hot showers and handicap accessibility), and a sense of safety. The campground provides both rustic and modern camping experiences. While there might be considerations regarding after-hours firewood availability and limited office presence at certain times, the overall positive feedback, particularly regarding the scenic location and the active presence of cleaning and monitoring staff, makes it a desirable destination. The easy access to the natural wonders of Tahquamenon Falls State Park further enhances its appeal for local adventurers.
Local users planning a visit should be prepared for potential limited on-site staff presence outside of regular hours and consider the firewood situation, perhaps utilizing the vending machine at the Lower Falls parking area if arriving late or if the campground office is unattended. Despite these minor logistical considerations, the beauty of the location and the quality of the facilities make Tahquamenon Falls State Park Rivermouth Campgrounds a strong recommendation for those seeking a memorable camping experience in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Oct 20, 2023 · Sam MasonIncredibly picturesque campsite, with a slow moving river for kayaking. It can be quiet on the non-RV half of the site. This place has fantastic bathrooms (and showers) if you don't want to use the vaults. Bring bug spray for sure. This is a very family friendly site.
Jul 26, 2024 · Tom FifeAwesome campground with multiple possibilities. Nicely sized sites with 20/30 Amp in the Modern campground. Then there is the Pines, rustic, bigger sites, and on the river.Don't miss Tahqua Rd. Just past the river going north, it has many access locations upriver to drop canoe, kayak or tubes and do a slow drift down to the campground.
Apr 24, 2025 · Paul Willybeautiful rustic campsite. there is a trail to walk on, a dock to look out at the river, and several small “beaches” to walk down and be in the water. outhouses are cleaned regularly, and there is an electric bathroom at the modern sites
