Andrus Lake State Forest Campground Introduce
For local users in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan searching for a tranquil and potentially secluded "camping near me" experience, Andrus Lake State Forest Campground, located at 32965 W Vermillion Rd, Paradise, MI 49768, USA, presents an appealing option. Situated near the town of Paradise, this campground within the Michigan State Forest system offers a lakeside setting known for its scenic beauty and quiet atmosphere, particularly during the shoulder seasons. Based on the available customer reviews, Andrus Lake provides a quaint and peaceful escape for those seeking a more intimate connection with nature.
The environment surrounding Andrus Lake State Forest Campground is clearly a significant attraction. Both reviews mention the "beautiful sunsets over the lake," indicating that the campground offers picturesque waterfront views. Lakefront camping provides opportunities for various water-related activities, such as fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the serene ambiance of the lake. The presence of a lake often enhances the natural beauty of a campground, attracting those who appreciate water views and the associated recreational possibilities.
One reviewer noted camping at Andrus Lake twice in October, suggesting that the fall season offers a particularly enjoyable experience, likely with fewer crowds and the added beauty of autumn foliage. The other review mentions a visit in early November, where the campers found "not another soul to be seen," allowing them to choose an "ideal spot to set camp for the weekend." This highlights the potential for exceptional seclusion, especially during the off-peak seasons. For local users searching for "camping near me" where they can truly escape and enjoy solitude, Andrus Lake in the late fall or potentially other off-season times could be an excellent choice.
In terms of services and features, as a State Forest Campground in Michigan, Andrus Lake likely offers a more rustic camping experience. One reviewer explicitly mentions "No electricity? No problem," which confirms the lack of electrical hookups at the campsites. This is typical of many State Forest Campgrounds, catering to those who are comfortable with a more primitive setup and do not rely on electrical power for their camping needs.
While specific details about other amenities are not provided in the reviews, based on the general nature of Michigan State Forest Campgrounds, it's probable that Andrus Lake offers basic facilities. These typically include designated campsites suitable for tents, small trailers, or truck campers. Vault toilets are a common amenity in these settings. Campers are usually expected to provide their own water or have a means to purify it, and trash disposal might follow a carry-in, carry-out system.
Features likely include fire rings at individual campsites for campfires and cooking, and picnic tables may also be available. It is less probable that Andrus Lake offers amenities such as modern restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, or recreational programs, which are more common in state parks or private campgrounds. The focus in State Forest Campgrounds is generally on providing access to a natural environment for self-sufficient campers.
The name "Andrus Lake State Forest Campground" itself confirms its location within the Michigan State Forest system and its proximity to Andrus Lake. This direct naming suggests that the lake is a central feature of the campground experience. Local users seeking "camping near me" with a focus on lake access and the associated tranquility would find this name indicative of what the campground offers.
Given that Andrus Lake is a State Forest Campground, it is managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Local users planning a trip should consult the DNR website or contact them at the provided phone number, (906) 492-3415 or +1 906-492-3415, for information on permits, fees, regulations, and any potential advisories or closures. The DNR is the official source for details regarding all Michigan State Forest Campgrounds.
There is no specific promotional information included in the provided text. However, the positive comments about the beautiful sunsets and the potential for secluded camping, particularly in the off-season, serve as strong implicit endorsements. For local users seeking a peaceful and scenic "camping near me" option, these aspects are inherently appealing.
The reviewer's description of the campground as "cute, quaint little" suggests a smaller, more intimate setting compared to larger, more developed campgrounds. This could be a significant draw for those who prefer a quieter and less crowded camping experience. The feeling of having the campground entirely to oneself, as experienced in early November, highlights the potential for a truly immersive and solitary nature retreat during certain times of the year.
For local users in the Paradise area or those in the Upper Peninsula seeking a "camping near me" experience centered around a lake in a peaceful state forest setting, Andrus Lake State Forest Campground appears to be a promising choice. The lack of electricity is a key factor to consider for those who rely on powered devices, but for those comfortable with off-grid camping, this is unlikely to be an issue. The beauty of the lake, especially the sunsets, and the potential for solitude, particularly in the shoulder seasons, make Andrus Lake a potentially rewarding destination for a quiet escape into nature.
In conclusion, Andrus Lake State Forest Campground near Paradise, Michigan, offers a quaint and peaceful "camping near me" experience with beautiful lake views, especially at sunset. While it provides a rustic setting without electricity, its potential for seclusion, particularly in the off-season, makes it an attractive option for local users seeking a quiet retreat in nature. Prospective visitors should contact the Michigan DNR for the most accurate information regarding amenities, fees, and regulations before planning their trip to Andrus Lake.

Andrus Lake State Forest Campground Reviews
Camped here twice in October. Beautiful sunsets over the lake. No electricity? No problem.
Oct 05, 2024 · Greg OffenbackCute, quaint little state forest campground. Not another soul to be seen so we picked the ideal spot to set camp for the weekend. We were there early November so the lack of people wasn't at all surprising.
Nov 21, 2023 · Christina OlsonNice, quiet, right on the lake. But be prepared when you get out of your truck, the flying vampires are waiting for you!!
Jun 14, 2024 · Susie CzapskiSuch a beautiful atmosphere. Great people. Really missed Bob and Mary this year (camp host) Love camping on this lake. Beautiful views stars at night, close to whitefish point. AWESOME CAMP
Sep 19, 2020 · Shanon ReilAndrus Lake State Forest Campground is a place for REAL camping, not that parking lot stuff you'll find closer to the falls. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the location is great: 5 minutes North of Paradise, 5 minutes South of Whitefish Point, 25 minutes East from the Falls. Lots of ORV tracks around. And it's right on a beautiful lake for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Cute little beach and picnic area also.I just wish this park didn't allow generators!!
