Blackberry Campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" in the Tidewater, Oregon area, Blackberry Campground, located at 17686 E Alsea Hwy, Tidewater, OR 97390, offers a potentially beautiful camping experience with river access. You can reach them at (541) 547-3679 or +1 541-547-3679 for inquiries, although reservations for US Forest Service campgrounds are often managed through recreation.gov.
Blackberry Campground is lauded by several reviewers for its natural beauty. One camper described it as "Absolutely beautiful," highlighting the great river access as a significant positive. This feature makes it an attractive option for those who enjoy water-based activities like fishing and floating. The campground is also considered "the perfect campground for families" by one reviewer, suggesting a welcoming and suitable environment for those camping with children.
Water accessibility appears to be a notable convenience, with one review mentioning that water is "easily accessible throughout the grounds." This is a significant advantage for campers needing water for drinking, cooking, and general use, reducing the hassle of carrying large quantities over long distances.
Shade is another positive aspect of many campsites at Blackberry Campground. Reviewers noted that "there is ample shade on most campsites," which is highly desirable, especially during warmer months, providing relief from the sun and creating more comfortable outdoor living spaces. However, it's worth noting that a few campsites located in the center of the loop reportedly have no shade, so campers with a strong preference for shade might want to inquire about site selection when making reservations.
In terms of amenities, Blackberry Campground does not offer shower facilities. One reviewer, who personally dislikes campground showers, did not find this to be an issue. However, for campers who value and expect shower facilities, this is an important consideration. The absence of showers contributes to the more rustic nature of the campground.
The size of Blackberry Campground is described as "small," which one reviewer found to be a positive aspect, contributing to a feeling of safety. A smaller campground can often foster a more intimate and secure atmosphere compared to larger, more sprawling facilities.
Each campsite is reported to be generously sized and equipped with a campfire ring that includes a cooking grate. This is a significant feature for those who enjoy cooking over an open fire, a quintessential part of the camping experience. The combination of spacious campsites and cooking grates makes Blackberry Campground particularly appealing to families and individuals interested in fishing and outdoor cooking.
Based on the positive reviews, Blackberry Campground seems ideal for those who enjoy activities like biking, fishing, and floating, especially during the summer months. The recommendation to "Bring bikes, fishing poles, and floats in summer" underscores the recreational opportunities available in and around the campground, particularly with the river access.
Adding to the positive atmosphere, one reviewer mentioned a "friendly host," which can greatly enhance the overall camping experience by providing assistance and creating a welcoming environment.
However, it's important to note some limitations and a significant concern raised in the reviews. Blackberry Campground is described as having "no electricity, plumbing, or cell signal." This means campers should be prepared for a more off-grid experience, relying on their own power sources, bringing sufficient water (despite the mentioned accessibility), and being aware of the lack of modern conveniences like electrical hookups and cellular communication. The nearest supplies are located in Waldport, but options there are described as limited, suggesting that a trip to Newport might be necessary for more extensive needs.
A serious concern was raised by one reviewer regarding the condition of the bathrooms. They were described as "absolutely horrifying" despite the camp host cleaning them, and the odor was reportedly noticeable from a distance. This is a significant drawback and a factor that potential campers should be aware of. While cleanliness standards can vary and this review may represent a specific point in time, it warrants consideration when planning a visit.
In summary, Blackberry Campground offers a beautiful natural setting with excellent river access and spacious, shaded campsites equipped for campfires and cooking. It appears to be a family-friendly location ideal for outdoor activities like fishing, biking, and floating. The friendly host contributes to a positive atmosphere. However, campers should be prepared for limited amenities, including no showers, electricity, plumbing, or reliable cell service. Additionally, recent feedback raises a significant concern about the condition of the bathrooms.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Blackberry Campground presents a trade-off between its natural beauty and recreational opportunities and its limited amenities and potential issues with restroom facilities. If you prioritize a beautiful riverside location and are comfortable with a more rustic camping experience, it may be a good fit. However, it would be wise to check recent reviews and potentially inquire about the current condition of the restrooms before making a reservation, especially if this is a significant factor for your camping comfort.

Blackberry Campground Reviews
Absolutely beautiful. The river access is great and it’s the perfect campground for families. Water is easily accessible throughout the grounds. There is ample shade on most campsites. There were a few campsites in the center of the loop with no shade. There are no shower facilities but I dislike campground showers anyway so it didn’t bother me. The small size of the grounds was nice and felt safe. Each campsite was a generous size and offered a campfire ring with cooking grate on top. This is perfect for families and people looking to fish. Bring bikes, fishing poles, and floats in summer. We loved it and will try to return again.
Aug 10, 2024 · Jane Lemons UpshawBeautiful campground with a friendly host. Nearest supplies are in Waldport, but they are limited, so expect to go to Newport if you need more than the basics. Water is available but no electricity, plumbing, or cell signal. Expect most of the campground to be quiet by 9-10 so if you like to stay up late this isn't a good fit.Bathrooms were absolutely horrifying even though the camp host cleaned them. You could smell them from a distance.
Aug 28, 2024 · JOff the main route a bit but it’s a cozy campground that was quite on a Wednesday in June. There was a street light by the entrance that was a bit unnecessary but besides that it’s decent for a pay to play campground.Water- yesToilets- yesCamp host- yesFishing- go for it
Feb 22, 2023 · Philip30 American dollars per night for a field next to a river? And not even a particularly fun or picturesque river. Truly ridiculous. Two stars because it is theoretically a campground where you could in fact sleep if you needed to. Like if you were on the run or it was the end of the world or something.
Sep 11, 2022 · Avalon LeonettiNice location along the Alsea river. Large group of noisy campers with no regard for others was a minus. Also the bathrooms were super smelly! Camp host didn't do much....
