Blue Bay Campground

Deschutes, OR 97701, USA

First time here I have been wanting to go for years. Since this is the last year I could go because I need a kidney transplant. So I reserved two spots for my family and it was great. From going to the boat House for breakfast one day with live music the night before to relaxing and just watching nature. We all had a great time. Maybe someone will donate a kidney and I'll be able to go back again to try paddle boarding maybe even fishing so much I still need to do - Jeff Warren

Blue Bay Campground Introduce

For those in the Deschutes, Oregon area searching for “camping near me,” Blue Bay Campground, located in Deschutes, OR 97701, USA, offers a promising lakeside camping experience on the scenic Suttle Lake. You can reach them by phone at (541) 338-7869 or mobile phone at +1 541-338-7869 to inquire about reservations and availability.

Based on the available customer reviews, Blue Bay Campground provides a beautiful environment with convenient access to Suttle Lake and nearby resort amenities. One reviewer, who visited for the first time, expressed regret that it might be their last due to a pending kidney transplant but recounted a wonderful experience. They enjoyed activities ranging from having breakfast at the "boat House" with live music the night before to simply relaxing and observing nature. This suggests that Blue Bay Campground offers a diverse range of experiences, catering to both those seeking active recreation and those looking for a peaceful retreat. The reviewer's positive sentiment and hope to return highlight the campground's appeal.

Another reviewer, who stayed for a single night, noted the unfortunate presence of smoke from nearby wildfires during their visit, a factor that can sometimes affect outdoor experiences in the region, particularly in late summer. Despite this, they found the campsites to be "nice," indicating that the campground itself is well-maintained and pleasant. A significant advantage they pointed out was the campground's proximity to a resort, accessible via a trail around the lake. This allows campers to easily walk to the resort and take advantage of its amenities. The reviewer mentioned the "amazing" lodge and enjoyed draft beer and snacks at the Boathouse. They also noted that the resort offers rentals for boats, kayaks, cabins, and lodge rooms, providing additional options for recreation and accommodation for those traveling with a larger group or seeking different types of lodging.

For those bringing their own watercraft, the reviewer mentioned a "little boat launch that is near the campsite," facilitating easy access to Suttle Lake for activities like kayaking. This is a valuable feature for campers who enjoy paddling and exploring the lake at their own pace. The presence of a "very nice, well kept trail" that partially circumnavigates the lake is another significant draw for those who enjoy hiking and scenic walks. The reviewer estimated walking about half of the trail, suggesting it offers a substantial opportunity for lakeside exploration.

However, the second reviewer also highlighted a potential seasonal issue: "This time of year, August, there were lots of yellow-jackets...bring your trap!" This indicates that visitors during late summer should be prepared for the presence of these insects and may want to take precautions such as bringing traps or repellents. This is important information for planning a comfortable stay, especially for those who might be allergic or particularly bothered by stinging insects.

The reviewer also made a comparison to another campground on Suttle Lake, South Shore, noting that while it "looks bigger" than Blue Bay, it is "further away from the lodge/resort." This suggests that Blue Bay Campground's proximity to the resort and its amenities is a key advantage for those who value easy access to additional services or recreational opportunities offered there. The reviewer also mentioned staying in site #22, which they found to have "enough room for our camper van and our friend's truck camper." This provides some insight into the size and suitability of at least one of the campsites for different types of camping setups. They also noted that the "picnic table is uphill from where you park" at this particular site, which might be a consideration for accessibility depending on individual needs.

From these reviews, Blue Bay Campground appears to offer a beautiful lakeside setting on Suttle Lake with the convenience of being within walking distance of a resort. This provides a unique combination of natural camping and access to amenities like dining, boat rentals, and potentially other recreational activities. The lake itself is suitable for boating and kayaking, with a nearby boat launch for easy access. The presence of a well-maintained hiking trail around the lake further enhances the recreational opportunities for campers. However, potential visitors should be aware of the potential for smoky conditions, particularly during wildfire season, and the presence of yellow-jackets in late summer, requiring appropriate preparedness.

To get more specific information about Blue Bay Campground, such as the types of campsites available (e.g., tent sites, RV hookups), the availability of restrooms and showers, water access at campsites, reservation procedures, and any specific rules or regulations, it is recommended to contact them directly using the provided phone numbers.
