South Shore Boating Site Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" with a focus on lake activities? Consider the South Shore Boating Site, located near Sisters, Oregon. While the name emphasizes boating, the presence of a "site" at a "lovely lake" suggests camping opportunities as well. Based on the available customer reviews, the primary draws of this location are its access to a beautiful lake, its suitability for both motorized and non-motorized boating, and the overall peaceful lakeside environment. Let's explore what this site might offer for your next camping and lake adventure.
Environment: Lakeside Beauty with Designated Boating Zones
The South Shore Boating Site is situated by a "lovely lake" that appears to be a central feature of the experience. One reviewer noted "lots of access" to the lake, implying that the campground or site provides ample opportunities to get to the water. A significant aspect of this lake's environment is the thoughtful division of its surface for different types of watercraft. Approximately one-third of the lake is designated as a "no wake area," which is particularly appealing for those who enjoy paddle sports like kayaking, canoeing, or paddleboarding, as it ensures a calmer and safer environment. The remaining portion of the lake allows for power boats, catering to those who enjoy motor boating and related activities. The lake is described as "big enough to accommodate both," suggesting that the different user groups can coexist without overcrowding.
The surrounding environment is likely typical of the Sisters, Oregon area, which is known for its scenic beauty, including forests, mountains, and pristine lakes. Campers can probably expect a natural setting with opportunities for enjoying the outdoors beyond just the lake itself.
Services: Focus on Lake Access and Basic Amenities
The name "Boating Site" suggests that services here are likely geared towards facilitating access to and enjoyment of the lake. One reviewer specifically mentioned a "good dock," which is a valuable amenity for boaters, making it easier to launch and moor watercraft. While the reviews don't extensively detail camping-specific services, we can infer some basics. As a "site," it likely offers designated areas for camping, which could range from primitive tent sites to areas suitable for RVs (though this is not specified). Campers should probably expect basic amenities such as parking, and potentially picnic tables and fire rings at campsites. Restroom facilities (vault toilets) are common in such locations, although not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews.
The mention of "potholes to watch out for on your way out" might indicate the condition of the access road or parking areas, suggesting that while the lakeside experience is positive, the infrastructure might have some minor issues.
Features: Boating, Paddle Sports, and Lake Access
The standout features of the South Shore Boating Site revolve around its lake access and the designated boating areas. The availability of a "good dock" is a significant plus for boaters. The clear demarcation of the lake into no-wake zones for paddle sports and areas for motor boats is a unique and highly appreciated feature, allowing different types of lake enthusiasts to enjoy their activities safely and without conflict. The "lovely lake" itself is a major draw, offering opportunities for swimming, fishing (if permitted), and simply enjoying the waterfront scenery.
For those interested in "camping near me" who also enjoy water-based activities, the South Shore Boating Site appears to be well-suited. The combination of a beautiful lake with specific zones for different types of boating is a notable advantage.

South Shore Boating Site Reviews
Lovely lake, lots of access to it. Very few power boats on it and about 1/3 of the lake is a no wake area!
Sep 02, 2022 · Escape PilotGood dock. Definitely potholes to watch out for on your way out. Appreciate that half the lake is for motor boats and the other half for paddle sports. The lake is big enough to accommodate both.
Jul 07, 2024 · Nicole BThe camp hosts were super nice, very professional, and accommodating. They were approachable even when off duty. We look forward to going back because the access was great.
May 22, 2024 · Ryan AustinCould have been a great stay except for these people who played terrible 1970s pop rock until 1 in the morning. This campsite has quiet hours and yet the camp host did absolutely nothing about the noise. What is the point of a camp host if they do nothing to enforce the rules. Terrible experience, would not recommend at all.
