Brookshire Campground Introduce
For local users browsing the "Camping Near Me" category with a penchant for remote and potentially challenging camping destinations, Brookshire Campground, situated off Forest Rte 11N04A in Santa Maria, CA 93454, USA, warrants careful consideration. Based on the limited customer reviews available, Brookshire Campground presents a unique scenario characterized by its secluded location, difficult access, very limited number of campsites, and basic amenities. Understanding these factors is crucial for anyone contemplating a visit to this campground.
The environment of Brookshire Campground is undoubtedly remote, contributing to its potential appeal for those seeking isolation and immersion in nature. However, this remoteness comes with a significant drawback: access. One reviewer explicitly states that reaching the campground involves a substantial two and a half hour drive in on fire roads. This extended travel time over potentially rough terrain needs to be a primary consideration for any prospective visitor. The term "fire roads" typically implies unpaved and possibly poorly maintained routes, which may necessitate a vehicle with good ground clearance and sturdy tires. The challenging access significantly impacts the overall feasibility and convenience of camping at Brookshire Campground.
Adding to the access concerns is the extremely limited capacity of Brookshire Campground. The same reviewer mentions that there are only two spots available within the campground. This scarcity of campsites introduces a considerable element of risk for anyone undertaking the long drive. Arriving to find both spots occupied would result in a wasted five-hour round trip on difficult roads. This limitation strongly suggests that Brookshire Campground is not a viable option for those who cannot tolerate the possibility of not securing a campsite upon arrival.
In terms of services and features, the available information indicates a very basic level of development. A review from April 2021 notes that the campground was open and provided a "nice toilet" but had no water available. The presence of a toilet, even a single one, can be considered a basic amenity, but the lack of water is a significant factor that campers must be prepared for. Visitors to Brookshire Campground will need to bring their entire water supply for drinking, cooking, and hygiene. This further underscores the need for self-sufficiency and careful planning.
The limited information does not mention the presence of other common campground amenities such as picnic tables, fire pits, or designated parking areas. Given the small size (two spots) and remote nature, it is plausible that the facilities are minimal. Campers should likely anticipate a primitive camping experience and come prepared with all necessary gear, including cooking equipment, shelter, lighting, and waste disposal bags, adhering strictly to Leave No Trace principles.
The significant travel time and the risk of finding no available campsite make Brookshire Campground a potentially unsuitable option for casual campers or those with time constraints. It appears to cater to a specific type of camper willing to endure challenging access for the sake of solitude and remoteness, and who is fully prepared for a self-supported experience with no guaranteed spot.
Given the nature of Brookshire Campground, promotional information is non-existent in the provided reviews. The primary information conveyed is about the challenges of access and the very limited availability. There are no mentions of fees, reservations, or special features that might attract visitors beyond the desire for a remote and basic camping experience. The "promotion," if any, lies solely in the promise of a secluded location for those willing to undertake the journey and risk the availability of the two campsites.
For local users still considering Brookshire Campground despite the noted challenges, the provided phone numbers, (805) 925-9538 and +1 805-925-9538, might be used to inquire about the current conditions of the fire roads leading to the campground or any temporary closures or advisories for the area. However, it is unlikely that anyone would be able to provide real-time information on the occupancy of the two campsites. Calling might offer insights into the general accessibility of the area but will not mitigate the risk of driving for two and a half hours only to find no available spot.
In conclusion, Brookshire Campground presents a remote and challenging camping option for local users exploring "Camping Near Me." Its key characteristics include a two and a half hour drive on fire roads, a very limited capacity of only two campsites, and basic amenities consisting of a toilet but no water. The significant travel time and the risk of finding no available site make it a choice that requires careful consideration and a high tolerance for uncertainty. It is best suited for experienced and self-sufficient campers who prioritize extreme seclusion and are prepared for a potentially arduous journey with no guarantee of a camping spot upon arrival. Before considering a trip to Brookshire Campground, it is strongly advised to assess your vehicle's capability, your preparedness for primitive camping, and your tolerance for the risk of a wasted journey.

Brookshire Campground Reviews
Great campground only issue is it's a 2 and a half hour drive in on fire roads with only two spots in the campground it's a bit of a risk driving that far for a maybe
May 25, 2019 · Ethan Shubert04/14/2021 It is open and has no water, nice toilet, and a long rough drive from Hwy 166.
Apr 15, 2021 · Patrick SuchanThe Brookshire campground has two spots, one next to Plowshare Spring and the other in the middle of the main open area. Each one has a picnic table and standard round metal fire pit. There is a restroom shack which appears to be in good condition. Beyond the two official spots, there is plenty of space for several vehicles, etc.The road (11N04A) leading from the Horseshoe Springs/Pine Canyon was in good condition. There are a few low areas where you cross the creek so be mindful camping here if heavy rains are expected. At the time of my visit, the creek had at least 2" of steadily flowing water.
May 18, 2019 · Dan WIt's a good campground with a hiking trail. If you want to get away from people it's perfect but bring everything you think you need because it's way back and will take you time to get in and out on rocky dirt roads.
Aug 15, 2021 · Anthony LangstonLong hard dirt road to get here. No toilet paper and dirty. Picked up a lot of trash. Only 2 sights so they fill up fast.
