White Birch Campground

214 North St, South Deerfield, MA 01373, USA

3.0
This was not a place I’d recommend to anyone. There was trash everywhere (though hardly any guests). No one was in the office to check me in when I arrived and the guy I spoke to on the phone seemed to have no idea what was going on even though I had a reservation. The sites are badly maintained and hard to get into. We’ve been RVing for going on 40 years and we know how to back into a site. But there was trash and random fire pits scattered across the center of it. And the trees were so overgrown it felt like backing into a horror movie set. On top of that, The electrical was a 20amp service pretending to be a 30amp.Terrible. Do not go here. - FMH Ferland

White Birch Campground Introduce

For local residents in the South Deerfield, Massachusetts area, the search for "camping near me" might include White Birch Campground, located at 214 North St, South Deerfield, MA 01373. You can contact them by phone at (413) 665-7213 or their mobile number +1 413-665-7213 to inquire about availability and make reservations. Based on recent online reviews, the campground presents a mixed picture, with some positive aspects but also significant concerns raised by previous visitors that local users should carefully consider.

White Birch Campground is situated in South Deerfield, a town in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, known for its agricultural landscape and proximity to the Connecticut River. The environment of the campground appears to offer a mix of settings. One reviewer noted that the "Campsites in woods great for bumper pull or tents," suggesting shaded and potentially more secluded sites suitable for smaller trailers and tent campers. In contrast, "Larger campers better in big open field," indicating more spacious, less wooded sites designed to accommodate larger recreational vehicles. This duality in campsite environments could appeal to different types of campers depending on their equipment and preferences.

However, the reviews also highlight significant issues regarding the campground's condition and management. One reviewer strongly advised against staying, citing "trash everywhere (though hardly any guests)." This suggests a potential problem with cleanliness and upkeep of the grounds. They also reported a lack of staff availability upon arrival ("No one was in the office to check me in") and a lack of preparedness or knowledge by the staff member contacted by phone ("seemed to have no idea what was going on even though I had a reservation"). These issues raise concerns about the campground's organization and customer service.

The same negative review further detailed problems with the campsites themselves, describing them as "badly maintained and hard to get into." Even for experienced RVers ("We’ve been RVing for going on 40 years and we know how to back into a site"), the sites presented challenges, with "trash and random fire pits scattered across the center of it." Overgrown trees were also a significant issue, creating a difficult and unappealing environment ("trees were so overgrown it felt like backing into a horror movie set"). Additionally, this reviewer reported a problem with the electrical service, claiming a "20amp service pretending to be a 30amp," which could be a serious issue for RVers relying on consistent power for their appliances.

Another very brief review simply stated "Terrible. Do not go here," echoing the strong negative sentiment of the first reviewer.

In contrast to these highly negative experiences, a third reviewer offered a more positive, albeit qualified, perspective. They described the campground as "Away from town" and a "diamond in the rough." This suggests a potentially peaceful and less crowded location. They reiterated the availability of "Campsites in woods great for bumper pull or tents" and the "big open field" for larger campers. This reviewer also suggested a potential improvement if "some low hanging branches were cut," which could enhance accessibility for larger RVs further into the campground.

This more positive review also noted that the "Owner is friendly" and mentioned the presence of a "dump station" (but "No sewer" hookups at the sites). The fact that a "Pool was being opened" suggests an amenity that could be appealing, especially during warmer months. This indicates that while some basic services are available, full hookups (including sewer) might not be standard at all sites.

Considering these contrasting reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" at White Birch Campground face a significant dilemma. The potential for a quiet, wooded campsite or a spacious open field for RVs is appealing. The presence of a dump station and a pool (potentially operational) are also positive features. However, the serious concerns raised about trash, poor site maintenance, overgrown trees, difficult site access, unreliable electrical service, and disorganized management cannot be ignored. The strongly negative recommendations from some reviewers should give potential visitors pause.

Based on the available information, the environment of White Birch Campground offers both wooded and open field settings. Services appear to include water and electrical hookups (though the reliability of the electrical service has been questioned), and a dump station is available. A pool is also mentioned as being opened. However, sewer hookups are not available. Features include fire pits (though their placement seems to be an issue on some sites), and the potential for a more secluded or more open camping experience depending on the site chosen.

Promotional information is absent from the reviews. Local users interested in White Birch Campground would need to contact them directly to inquire about pricing, seasonal rates, or any special offers. Given the significant concerns raised about the campground's condition and management, it would be prudent to ask specific questions about site maintenance, cleanliness, staff availability, and the reliability of utilities before making a reservation.

In conclusion, White Birch Campground in South Deerfield, MA, presents a mixed bag for local users searching for "camping near me." While it offers a location away from town with a choice of wooded or open field campsites and amenities like a dump station and a pool, serious concerns have been raised about trash, poor site maintenance, overgrown trees, difficult access, potentially unreliable electrical service, and disorganized management. The starkly contrasting reviews suggest that experiences may vary significantly. Therefore, local users should proceed with caution, carefully consider the negative feedback alongside the positive, and contact White Birch Campground directly to seek clarification and current information before making a decision to stay there.
