Bumpus Mills Campground Introduce
Are you a local resident in search of "camping near me" in the Bumpus Mills, Tennessee area? Bumpus Mills Campground, located at 764 Forest Trail, Bumpus Mills, TN 37028, USA, offers a small and reportedly affordable option for camping. You can reach them by phone at (931) 232-8831 or their mobile number, +1 931-232-8831.
Bumpus Mills Campground appears to be a no-frills campground with some appealing aspects, such as affordability and scenic views, but also significant drawbacks, particularly concerning the cleanliness of the restrooms and potential issues with certain campsites. If you're looking for "camping near me" and considering this location, it's crucial to be aware of the experiences shared by previous visitors. Let's delve into the details based on the available reviews.
Environment:
One of the standout environmental features of Bumpus Mills Campground, according to multiple reviewers, is the scenery. One camper exclaimed, "The sunsets were fabulous!" Another mentioned, "The views are insane though." This strongly suggests that the campground is situated in a location that offers beautiful vistas, particularly at sunset. If scenic beauty is a high priority for your "camping near me" experience, this could be a significant positive.
The campground is described as "small," which might appeal to those seeking a more intimate and less crowded camping experience. However, one reviewer noted that "not much to do in the area but fish unless you really want to explore outside of the campground." This implies that while the campground itself might be pleasant in terms of size and affordability, the immediate surrounding area might have limited attractions beyond fishing. This is something to consider based on your preferences for activities during a camping trip.
One concerning environmental aspect mentioned is related to specific campsites. One reviewer "learned after our time there our site is the worst with bugs," suggesting that at least one site has a persistent issue with insects, exacerbated by rain. This same reviewer also reported that "Our site also gets all the rain drained from the upper site," leading to potential flooding in some areas, a condition the host apparently warned them about at check-in. If you choose to camp here, it would be wise to inquire about site-specific conditions, especially regarding drainage and insect activity.
Services and Amenities:
Based on the reviews, the services and amenities at Bumpus Mills Campground appear to be quite basic. One reviewer mentioned a "shower house" but noted that it "could use for some regular cleaning," even suggesting it might not have been cleaned at all during their stay. This raises concerns about the hygiene of the shower facilities.
The most alarming feedback concerns the restrooms. One reviewer explicitly stated, "...dont plan on using the restrooms. Because they are beyond disgusting." They described the white urinals as "filled with thousands of dead and living flies," to the point where the urinals appeared "nearly black." This individual preferred using a porta-john over the campground restrooms and even "noped out" of taking a photo due to a large spider feeding on the flies in a urinal. This paints a very negative picture of the restroom facilities and is a significant factor to consider for anyone planning to camp here, especially those in tents or smaller vehicles without onboard restrooms.
The availability of fishing in the area is mentioned as a potential activity. However, details about other typical campground amenities like fire pits, picnic tables, or water hookups are not provided in the reviews.
Features:
The affordability of the campground is mentioned as a potential feature, appealing to budget-conscious campers. The "insane" views and "fabulous" sunsets are definitely features that could attract visitors seeking natural beauty.
The proximity to fishing opportunities might be a key feature for anglers looking for "camping near me" with convenient access to fishing spots.
However, the significantly negative feedback regarding the cleanliness of the restrooms is a major feature to be aware of, potentially deterring many campers.
Promotional Information:
The provided text does not include any promotional information about Bumpus Mills Campground, such as discounts or special offers. To inquire about pricing or any promotions, you would need to contact them directly.
Summary of Customer Feedback:
Customer feedback on Bumpus Mills Campground is quite mixed, with strong positives regarding the scenic views and affordability being overshadowed by significant negatives concerning the cleanliness of the facilities, particularly the restrooms. Issues with bugs and drainage at certain campsites also raise concerns.
While the sunsets and views are praised, the state of the shower house and restrooms is described in very negative terms. The limited activities in the immediate area beyond fishing are also noted.
Overall, the reviews suggest a campground with potential for a budget-friendly stay and beautiful scenery, but with serious shortcomings in terms of hygiene and potentially site conditions.
For Local Users Seeking "Camping Near Me":
If you are a local resident of Bumpus Mills or the surrounding areas looking for an affordable "camping near me" option and prioritize scenic views, Bumpus Mills Campground might be worth considering. The sunsets are reportedly fantastic, and the overall views are described as "insane." Additionally, the proximity to fishing could be a plus for those who enjoy angling.
However, it is crucial to be aware of the significant negative feedback regarding the cleanliness of the restrooms, which are described as "beyond disgusting" by one reviewer. The shower house also reportedly needs better cleaning. If clean restroom facilities are important to your camping experience, you might want to think carefully before choosing this campground, especially if you are tent camping or in a vehicle without its own bathroom.
Furthermore, be cautious about site selection, as at least one site is known for being prone to bugs and drainage issues after rain. If you decide to book here, it would be prudent to inquire about the best sites and the current condition of all facilities.
In conclusion, Bumpus Mills Campground offers affordability and scenic beauty, but potential campers, especially those relying on campground facilities, should be aware of the serious concerns raised about the cleanliness of the restrooms and potential issues with certain campsites. If you have an RV with its own bathroom, the stunning views might make it a viable option. For tent or car campers, the restroom situation warrants careful consideration. Contacting the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on site conditions and facility cleanliness is highly recommended before making a reservation for your "camping near me" trip.

Bumpus Mills Campground Reviews
If you want a small affordable campground this is your place. The shower house could use for some regular cleaning. I’m not sure it was cleaned at all the time we were there. Not much to do in the area but fish unless you really want to explore outside of the campground.I learned after our time there our site is the worst with bugs. I thought the bugs were just extra because it had rained a lot but a friend told me to never book that site bc the bugs are always backs there. Our site also gets all the rain drained from the upper site. When we checked in the host did prepare us our site would flood for a few areas since rain was expected. The sunsets were fabulous!
Jun 12, 2024 · Beth LivingstonGreat little campground but dont plan on using the restrooms. Because they are beyond disgusting. The white urinals are filled with thousands of dead and living flies. So much that the urinals are nearly black. Id rather use a porta john then even go in there ever again. The views are insane though so if you have an rv you will be fine. But for anyone van/car camping bring a shovel. Went back to try to get a photo as proof but there was a 4in spider in one of the urinals, feeding on the fly buffet, so i noped out.
Jul 20, 2024 · Capt Red BeardThe host was really nice. The sites are a little close together but offer great views of the lake. Not much to do without a 30 minute drive so it is the perfect campground to set up kick back and relax. The only reason it doesn't get more stars is the latrines and showers. The company contracted to clean them only makes an effort at hosing the floors down and wiping the sinks. I know it is a campground but at least sweep up the bugs instead of hosing them to the corners.
Aug 06, 2023 · Edward RoyseGreat area to camp. Small campground, good sights. Needs work done to the showers and hot water flow. Been like this the last 4 times we've camped.
Aug 06, 2023 · Lisa harrimanThis is a smaller campground that my family has frequented. Usually quiet, right next to Barkley lake, and bathrooms are kept clean. There is a boat dock and a beach close by as well. It has electric (30/50 amp) and water hook-ups with a dump station on the way out of the campground. You usually have to book out your site pretty early to get the one you want so I always put the alert on my phone for when booking becomes available for the season.
