Camp Carlson offers a variety of services and amenities to ensure a comfortable and convenient stay for all types of campers. For RV enthusiasts, the campground provides RV lots with full hookups (FHU), including pull-thru sites for added ease. According to recent information, these RV sites are available at very reasonable rates, with nightly fees of $30 for standard sites and $35 for pull-thru sites. This affordability, combined with the scenic environment and recreational opportunities, makes Camp Carlson a highly attractive option for RV travelers seeking "camping near me."
In addition to RV sites, Camp Carlson also features charming cabins, described by one visitor as "new little houses." These cabins offer a significant amount of space compared to traditional hotel rooms and are available at a fantastic price point. Guests have noted that the cabins are clean, new, and create a cozy atmosphere, providing a comfortable home away from home. Each cabin is equipped with a full kitchen, including appliances, a toaster, and a coffee pot, allowing for convenient meal preparation. While mattresses in the cabins have been mentioned as potentially needing improvement, the overall experience of staying in these units has been overwhelmingly positive. It's important to note that guests staying in the cabins are advised to bring their own bedding, towels, paper towels (though toilet paper is supplied), hand soap, and cleaning supplies.
For those who prefer a more traditional camping experience, tent camping is also available at Camp Carlson, offering a chance to connect directly with nature. The availability of clean and well-maintained bathrooms and laundry facilities further enhances the comfort and convenience for all campers, regardless of their chosen accommodation type. The maintenance team is consistently praised for their excellent work in keeping the grounds, bathrooms, and laundry facility clean and well-cared for.
One of the standout features of Camp Carlson is the friendly and helpful nature of the office staff. Visitors have consistently highlighted their positive interactions with the staff, noting their willingness to assist and provide information, contributing to a welcoming and enjoyable stay. The combination of excellent facilities and helpful staff creates a positive and supportive environment for all guests.
While Camp Carlson offers a wealth of positive attributes, it's important to note a couple of potential drawbacks mentioned by visitors. The lack of reliable Wi-Fi and poor cell phone reception have been cited as the only significant downsides to this otherwise beautiful area. However, there is encouraging news regarding Wi-Fi, as one review mentioned that a contract has recently been signed, suggesting that Wi-Fi access may become available in the near future. Campers should be prepared for potentially limited connectivity during their stay, which for some, might even be seen as an opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.
Another significant feature of Camp Carlson's location is its close proximity to historical and cultural attractions. It is conveniently located just a 10-minute drive from the Fort Knox main gate and the Patton Museum. This makes Camp Carlson an excellent base for those interested in exploring the rich military history of the region. Spending a day at the Patton Museum, home to an impressive collection of tanks and military artifacts, offers a fascinating and educational experience for visitors of all ages.

Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area Reviews
Beautiful campground with cabins, RV lots and tent camping available. There is a lake, walking trails, fishing, disc golf, pavilions, and a creek and lots of open space for pets and children to play. Maintenance does a great job keeping the grounds, bathrooms and laundry facility clean. Office staff is also friendly and helpful. The ONLY downside to this beautiful area is the lack of wifi and poor cell reception. (We heard they recently signed a wifi contract so hopefully that comes available soon). Easy 10 min drive to Fort Knox main gate and Patton Museum. One of the nicest RV parks we've stayed and we full time. Great rates as well. RV sites were $30 per night or $35 for a pull thru site. FHU
Apr 17, 2025 · Stephen GrangerWe stayed in one of the new little houses on Camp Carlson and it was a great experience! So much space compared to a hotel room, and fantastic price. Everything is clean, new, and It felt so cozy. They have really done a great job with these. The mattresses were not great and there is almost no cell signal (but enough to make a call and send/receive messages). There is a full kitchen with appliances, plus a toaster and coffee pot. There are a couple playgrounds, picnic tables, and a lake. Make sure and bring bedding, towels, paper towels (toilet paper is supplied) hand soap, and cleaning supplies as they do not supply these. Overall, we loved it and we will be back!
Jan 19, 2025 · Kara BurtonAmazing And beautiful landscape. Great for longer stays or overnight pitstop. RV and camp ground for military Veterans, retirees and their family.
Apr 20, 2025 · Bella CookThis is a great get-a-way place! There is abysmal cellular service, but the entire reason I come to a place like this is to at least partially disconnect. The cottages are a gem and worth staying in over any hotel in the area! You will be reminded! But, make sure you bring linens, pillows, and towels hahaha!
Nov 27, 2024 · Ryan DegnerVery nice campground at a very good price. Nice laundry facilities and bathrooms/showers, always clean and well-maintained. Volleyball court, playgrounds, walking trails, dog park. The workers are very nice and knowledgeable, especially Ms. Carrie, she was wonderful. Would definitely stay here again. Only about 10 minutes to main gate. Very pleased with staying here for a few weeks while waiting for a house.
