Camp Edison Introduce
For those actively searching for "Camping Near Me" in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills, Camp Edison at 42696 Tollhouse Rd, Shaver Lake, CA 93664, USA, stands out as a highly popular and generally well-regarded campground. Situated directly adjacent to Shaver Lake, it offers convenient access to water-based recreation and serves as a gateway to the broader Sierra National Forest. Its reputation as a destination for both tent and RV campers is evident, though its popularity means it can get very busy during peak seasons.
The environment at Camp Edison is characterized by its organized layout and direct proximity to Shaver Lake. While it is nestled within the natural beauty of the California mountains, the campground itself is managed and maintained, offering a more developed camping experience than a primitive site. Guests can expect a forested setting, providing shade and a natural ambiance, though the density of trees might vary by campsite. The campground's design often aims to accommodate a large number of campers, which means sites, while often well-defined, might be closer together than in more secluded, dispersed camping areas. The allure of Shaver Lake – a picturesque body of water popular for boating, fishing, and swimming – significantly enhances the overall environment, offering a wide range of recreational activities just steps away from campsites. A reviewer mentioned that the last week of April was "very quiet," implying that outside of peak summer months, the environment can be quite serene, allowing for a more peaceful experience.
Camp Edison offers a comprehensive range of services, catering to both tent and RV campers. A significant highlight, as noted by a reviewer, is the "super clean grounds" and "nice bathroom and shower" facilities. This emphasis on cleanliness and well-maintained amenities is a strong selling point for many campers. Unlike some more rustic campgrounds, Camp Edison provides modern conveniences, including showers, which are often a highly desired feature. It's important to note the specific detail from a review: "Don't forget to buy a shower card to use the showers." This indicates that showers operate on a paid system, using a reloadable card, which is a common practice in many larger, amenity-rich campgrounds to manage water usage and maintenance. For RV campers, Camp Edison typically offers sites with various hookup options, ranging from water and electric to full hookups (water, electric, and sewer), ensuring a comfortable stay. Other potential services might include a dump station, a general store for camping essentials and supplies, and potentially recreational equipment rentals for lake activities, though these specific offerings should be confirmed directly with the campground. The presence of staff and managed facilities suggests a higher level of service and security compared to un-manned or dispersed camping areas.
The features of Camp Edison that make it a popular choice for "Camping Near Me" searches are numerous. Its primary feature is its prime location right by Shaver Lake, offering unparalleled access to water sports and fishing. The campground is known for its well-maintained and clean facilities, particularly the restrooms and showers, which significantly enhance the comfort level of campers. The availability of various campsite types, accommodating both tents and a wide range of RVs with different hookup options, makes it versatile for diverse camping preferences. The presence of "friendly staff," as noted by a reviewer, contributes to a positive overall experience, suggesting good customer service and responsiveness. During quieter seasons, the campground can be "very quiet," appealing to those seeking a peaceful retreat. While not explicitly mentioned, campgrounds of this size and popularity often feature amenities like picnic tables and fire rings at each site, and possibly playgrounds or communal gathering areas. The ability to reserve sites in advance, which is common for popular campgrounds like Camp Edison, is also a key feature for planning trips.
Promotional information for Camp Edison would heavily leverage its lakeside location and reputation for cleanliness and good amenities. It would be marketed as an ideal destination for family camping, RV enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a comfortable and activity-rich outdoor experience. Key promotional messages would include:
- Lakeside Paradise: Emphasizing direct access to Shaver Lake for swimming, boating, fishing, and watersports.
- Comfort and Convenience: Highlighting clean restrooms, showers (with the shower card detail), and diverse hookup options for RVs.
- Family-Friendly Environment: Promoting it as a safe and enjoyable place for families, with potential activities for children.
- Access to Sierra National Forest: Positioning it as a gateway to broader outdoor adventures like hiking and exploring the surrounding wilderness.
- Popularity and Community: While it gets crowded, this can also be promoted as a vibrant and social camping experience during peak times.
In conclusion, Camp Edison at 42696 Tollhouse Rd, Shaver Lake, CA 93664, USA, is a highly popular and well-equipped campground offering a developed camping experience right on Shaver Lake. It caters to a wide range of "Camping Near Me" searches, from tent campers to RVers seeking full hookups and amenities. Its strengths lie in its clean facilities, friendly staff (in many instances), and prime location with access to water recreation. However, potential visitors should be aware of its tendency to be crowded during peak seasons and take note of the severe negative feedback regarding conflict resolution and alleged unfair treatment. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay, it is highly recommended to book well in advance, especially for summer visits, clarify all rules and regulations upon arrival, and utilize the provided contact numbers: (559) 841-3134 ext. 6 or +1 559-841-3134 ext. 6, for any inquiries or to make reservations.

Camp Edison Reviews
This was my first time here and I thought it was great. Friendly staff. Super clean grounds. Nice bathroom and shower. Very quiet the last week of April. I'm sure it gets super crowded during the summer.Don't forget to buy a shower card to use the showers.
Apr 30, 2025 · Matt WallThe area is alright but you have better options for Shaver. They said our group was too loud and getting noise complaints. Then out of the blue called the sheriffs office to kick us out. They wouldn’t even listen to our side or the fact that another group was the one making noise. I’ll never come back here, don’t waste your money on these scum they’re nothing but a bunch of racists.
Apr 10, 2025 · Angel BarrazaThe campground is nice, but the bathrooms could be betterMold and and rust in the grout. Also bugs and mold buildup at the bottom of shower. Dead bugs hanging from ceiling.Could do a much better job keeping them clean. Also upon entering park, we were met with a host that could use some customer service training.
Oct 01, 2024 · BekkiI hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share some feedback about a recent experience I had while visiting Camp Edison on 9/14.While my family and I were looking forward to enjoying a day at the lake, we had an unfortunate interaction with a staff member at the front entrance. We were briefly looking for our card to pay, which took less than a minute, when the staff member said, "Are we doing this or not?" This comment felt rushed and lacked proper etiquette, which created an uncomfortable start to what was meant to be a relaxing day with my family.I understand that customer service can be demanding, but interactions like this can leave a lasting negative impression. I believe that with the right attitude and training, all guests can have a more welcoming experience. I’m hopeful that this feedback can be used to ensure that future visitors are met with the courtesy and patience that enhances their time at Camp Edison.
Sep 17, 2024 · Sabrina GomezVery nice place with well-kept grounds, knowledgeable staff, and beautiful scenery. Would have left 5 stars except1) they are so petty that they charged me $15 to just *drive through* the campground to make sure the space I had in mind would accommodate my RV.2) I would have expected nicer showers since I literally had to buy credits and swipe a card like I was playing a video game to use them ($0.25 for two minutes of water -- first minute wasted waiting for it to get hot).3) when renting a site without full hookups, the water spigots are not conveniently located to fill the tank in a motorhome. I had to block the road for 20 minutes to fill my tank.Other than those things, I appreciate the full-time security and other things like access to the shoreline and beach.
