Campgrounds of the South Introduce
Seeking a budget-friendly "camping near me" option in the Gulfport, Mississippi area? Campgrounds of the South, located at 10406 Three Rivers Rd, Gulfport, MS 39503, USA, presents itself as an economical choice for travelers. You can contact them at (228) 539-2922 or +1 228-539-2922 for inquiries. Based on customer reviews, this campground offers convenient access to Interstate 10 and proximity to local attractions, but it also comes with certain limitations that potential visitors should be aware of.
The environment surrounding Campgrounds of the South is primarily defined by its accessibility to a major highway. One reviewer noted that the campground is "very easy to get in and out of from I-10," which can be a significant advantage for those who are passing through or looking for a convenient stopover. Its location on Three Rivers Road in Gulfport places it within a reasonable distance of the amenities and attractions of the city, including casinos, as mentioned in one review ("A 14 dollar Uber to the casino in Gulfport"). However, another reviewer pointed out a potential drawback of this proximity, stating that "I 10 only about 150 ft away and WILL keep you up all night," indicating that noise from the interstate could be a significant environmental factor affecting the peace and quiet of the campground. The specific layout and natural features of the campground itself are not detailed extensively, but one reviewer mentioned their spot "was not level, had a huge sunken portion of the pad," suggesting that the terrain of individual campsites might vary and could pose challenges for leveling RVs. Despite this, the same reviewer indicated that it "didn't affect us," but advised future RVers to be aware. The general aesthetic or natural beauty of the campground is not highlighted positively in the reviews; in fact, one reviewer stated that it is "not the biggest, nor the prettiest in the state," suggesting a more utilitarian environment rather than a scenic retreat.
The services at Campgrounds of the South appear to be basic and potentially limited. One reviewer mentioned "a shower house and restrooms," but critically noted that "they are closed 7pm-7am," which could be a significant inconvenience for campers needing these facilities outside of those hours. Another reviewer described the "laundry room" as "dirty" and stated that there are "NO other amenities" beyond the basic facilities. This suggests a no-frills camping experience with a focus on providing essential services, albeit with potential drawbacks in terms of cleanliness and accessibility of some facilities. The issue of the "Office NEVER open" was also raised by a reviewer who was a "short term visitor" unable to receive mail or packages, indicating a lack of consistent on-site management or services for guests needing assistance or deliveries. The primary positive service mentioned is the ease of access to and from the interstate, which caters to travelers on the move.
The features of Campgrounds of the South are somewhat limited based on the provided reviews. The easy access to I-10 is a significant logistical feature for travelers. Its proximity to Gulfport, with a reported $14 Uber ride to the casino, could be a feature for those interested in local entertainment. However, the negative aspects outweigh the positives in the reviews. The uneven campsite pads are a notable physical feature that RVers should be prepared for. The limited hours of the shower house and restrooms (closed overnight) are a restrictive feature. The dirty laundry room detracts from the convenience of having laundry facilities. The lack of other amenities, as mentioned by one reviewer, suggests that campers should not expect recreational facilities, organized activities, or other common campground features. The constant noise from the nearby interstate is a significant environmental feature that could negatively impact the camping experience for many.
Considering the platform category of "camping near me," Campgrounds of the South might appeal to a specific segment of local users or travelers who prioritize budget and convenient highway access over a pristine or amenity-rich camping experience. Its proximity to Gulfport and the casino could be a draw for those interested in visiting these local attractions. However, potential campers should be fully aware of the reported drawbacks, including the potential for uneven campsites, the limited hours of essential facilities, the cleanliness of the laundry room, the lack of other amenities, and the noise from the interstate. For local users seeking a longer-term stay or needing reliable on-site services like mail handling, the consistently closed office could be a major deterrent.
Currently, there is no promotional information available for Campgrounds of the South based on the provided reviews. The only positive aspect consistently mentioned is the price, with one reviewer stating, "ONLY good thing about CG of the South is price." This suggests that the campground might be positioned as a budget option. To inquire about current rates, site availability, specific details about the campsites, or any potential long-term stay discounts, it is essential to contact them directly at the provided phone numbers: (228) 539-2922 or +1 228-539-2922. Given the comments about the office being frequently closed, persistence might be required to reach someone for information. It would be prudent to ask detailed questions about the levelness of campsites, the operating hours of the restrooms and showers, the condition of the laundry facilities, and the level of noise from the nearby interstate before making a reservation.
In conclusion, Campgrounds of the South in Gulfport, MS, offers a budget-friendly "camping near me" option with easy access to I-10 and proximity to Gulfport attractions like casinos. However, potential visitors should be aware of the significant drawbacks highlighted in customer reviews, including potentially uneven campsites, limited operating hours for the shower house and restrooms, a dirty laundry room, a lack of other amenities, and noise from the nearby interstate. The office is reportedly often closed, which could affect short-term visitors needing assistance or mail services. While the price may be attractive to some, it appears to come with compromises in terms of comfort, cleanliness, and amenities. Local users considering this campground should weigh the convenience and cost against the reported limitations and contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information and to address any specific concerns before booking a stay.

Campgrounds of the South Reviews
This campground is very easy to get in and out of from I-10. Our spot was easy to to pull into and out of, but was not level, had a huge sunken portion of the pad, it didn't affect us, just letting future RV'ers know. There is a shower house and restrooms, but they are closed 7pm-7am. A 14 dollar Uber to the casino in Gulfport, i recommend this park.
Feb 26, 2025 · Darin CrowellONLY good thing about CG of the South is price, but we would pay twice as much for a clean park. Office NEVER open so as a short term visitor you cannot get your mail or packages. Dirty laundry room. NO other amenities. I 10 only about 150 ft away and WILL keep you up all night
Feb 26, 2025 · Lovy HowellClean campground, concrete slabs and safe location. If you are in Gulfport and worry about where to go, this is a good place. I was able to keep my stuff out and nothing happened to it. The lots are relatively inexpensive. Management is great and keeps an eye on the place well. The owner will drive around making sure everything is good. Power has never been an issue. Mine and my husband’s parents live near here so we will be coming back to this park for future visits.
Apr 14, 2024 · arrealle windhamNo cabins; only spots for RVs. They do have a bath house.
Mar 08, 2025 · Jac Prior3 night stay, park does not drain well, large puddles of water in road and at out site.very good location to I-10, restaurants and stores. Site was concrete and level, easy in and out. Some road noise, good cell signals.
