Campsite C - Sand Hollow Introduce
For local users in search of a primitive "camping near me" experience centered around a beautiful lake, Campsite C - Sand Hollow, located on Horse Run Rd, Cumberland, OH 43732, USA, offers a natural getaway. It's important to note that a direct phone number for this specific campsite is not provided in the current information. However, reviews offer valuable insights into the environment, services, and features for those considering a visit.
The environment surrounding Campsite C - Sand Hollow is characterized by a lake with a well-maintained hiking trail that circumnavigates it. This 2.6-mile trail is described as moderate to difficult at times, suggesting a good option for local hikers seeking a bit of a challenge with rewarding lake views. The presence of this accessible trail enhances the appeal for local users who enjoy combining camping with hiking within the "camping near me" category. The lake itself likely contributes to a serene and picturesque setting for campers.
In terms of services and features, Campsite C - Sand Hollow offers basic amenities to support a primitive camping experience. Reviewers mention the presence of restrooms and a picnic area, providing essential facilities for day use and campers alike. Additionally, there is a ramp available for boats, kayaks, and other watercraft, indicating that the lake is accessible for water-based activities. This feature could be particularly attractive to local users who enjoy paddling or fishing and are looking for a "camping near me" location that supports these interests.
It is crucial for local users considering an overnight stay that Campsite C - Sand Hollow is a primitive camping area with no water sources available. Campers must bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene. This aspect aligns with the experience of one reviewer who identified as a primitive camper and did not mind the lack of on-site water. This highlights that the campground caters to those comfortable with a more self-sufficient camping style.
Another significant feature reported by a recent visitor is the lack of cell service in the area. While this might be an inconvenience for some, the reviewer noted that it aligns with the purpose of getting out and unplugged, suggesting that Campsite C - Sand Hollow offers a true escape from digital connectivity. This can be a significant draw for local users specifically seeking a "camping near me" location to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature.
The registration process at Campsite C - Sand Hollow appears to be self-service, with a mention of a "self-registration Kiosk" that one visitor had difficulty locating. Local users should be prepared for a potentially informal check-in procedure and possibly a need to pay fees via a method that may not be immediately obvious upon arrival. It might be beneficial to look for signage or information boards upon arrival for guidance on registration and payment.
Recent updates indicate that the campsites are now numbered, a change that was new as of the time of one review. This suggests ongoing management and organization of the camping area, which could improve the experience for visitors. However, the phone number previously associated with the park (and potentially listed on a welcome sign) is reported to be no longer accurate for inquiries about this specific campsite, as the park no longer directly regulates the site. Therefore, local users with questions may need to seek information through other channels, such as local camping forums or by physically visiting the site for any posted information.
Despite the primitive nature and potential challenges with registration information, visitors have generally found the area to be lovely and peaceful. One reviewer noted that even with several other campers present, the atmosphere remained tranquil, with only occasional passing cars. The overall impression is of a natural and quiet setting suitable for those who enjoy a more rustic camping experience. The campground is also suggested as being great for groups, implying that there may be larger or adjacent campsites that can accommodate multiple tents or campers traveling together.
For local users planning a visit, it is highly recommended to print maps, especially those available from the website (though the website itself is not directly provided, suggesting a general online search for "Campsite C - Sand Hollow" or related terms might be necessary to find these resources). One reviewer found the website maps to be very helpful in locating the campsite. Given the potential lack of cell service, relying on printed directions and maps is essential.
As there is no direct phone number provided for Campsite C - Sand Hollow, promotional information is unavailable. Local users interested in potential fees, reservation procedures (if any), or specific site details will need to gather this information through online searches, local camping resources, or potentially by visiting the area. The mention of a nearby alternative, "AEP Rec Land camp slot A (Hook Lake)," suggests that there might be other camping options managed by AEP Recreation Land in the vicinity, which local users could explore if Campsite C - Sand Hollow is full or does not meet their needs.
In summary, Campsite C - Sand Hollow offers local users a primitive lakeside camping experience near Cumberland, Ohio. Key features include a scenic 2.6-mile hiking trail around the lake, basic amenities like restrooms and a picnic area, and a boat/kayak ramp. Campers should be aware that there is no on-site water and no cell service. The registration process involves a self-service kiosk that may not be easily located, and the previously associated phone number is no longer reliable for information. Recent updates include numbered campsites. The environment is described as peaceful and lovely, making it a potentially great option for individuals and groups seeking a rustic "camping near me" getaway focused on nature and tranquility, provided they come prepared for primitive conditions.
For local residents looking to unplug and enjoy a natural setting with hiking and lake access, Campsite C - Sand Hollow could be an ideal choice. The lack of water and cell service caters to those seeking a true escape. However, prospective visitors should do their due diligence in finding maps and information online, and be prepared for a self-registration process. The quiet atmosphere and scenic lake setting make it a worthwhile consideration for primitive campers in the area.

Campsite C - Sand Hollow Reviews
I hiked the trail that goes completely around the lake. 2.6 miles, and the trail is moderate to difficult at times. The trail is well maintained, and there are some great views of the lake. There are restrooms, a picnic area, and a ramp for boats, kayaks, etc.
Mar 14, 2024 · RJDMy husband and I went camping here for the first time last week. We are primitive campers and did not mind at all that there was no water sources available. When we went there seemed to be quite a few others camping but other than the occasional car driving past it was still very peaceful and everyone we encountered was very nice. We were a bit confused by the "self registration Kiosk" that we were supposed to sign in to but could not locate anywhere. Be advised there is NO cell service but I mean isn't that the point to get out and get unplugged! Over all very lovely area and we plan on going back. Would be great for groups. Print maps ( the ones from the website work just great) we had no trouble finding it. Also as of right now the phone number on the website to contact for questions ( which is also the number on the welcome sign) is not really accurate as that park no longer regulated the site so they are not really helpful... The sites now seemed to be numbered as well. Another camper said that was new this year. Not sure if they will be implementing a new registration process or not. We stayed at what we think was either site 47 or 48. The other bonus is if you get there and they are full they are just a short drive from the AEP Rec Land camp slot A ( Hook Lake)
