Castle Rock Campground was amazing! This was the perfect spot for our small group camping trip over Halloween weekend. Plenty of level sites to set up your tent. There are two fire rings. One is quite large and near the covered shelter - perfect for hanging out around at the end of the night. We didn’t use the other smaller fire ring as we all had camp stoves - that one is out in the field more and has a grate that swings over for cooking or heating up water. The vault toilet was cleaner than most I’ve seen and did not have any smells. The shelter area is gorgeous with four large picnic tables underneath and plenty of space. There are three additional picnic tables dispersed throughout the site. We were SO happy there was power available - what a cool new feature! The power stems from the light post near the vault toilet so bring some extension cords so you can have power under the shelter (30’+ distance). There was very minimal noise from the road and we barely noticed it. Would mention that the lock can be quite difficult to get locked and unlocked, however it is worth keeping locked as a few people tried to come fish at the site while we were there whenever we left it open for a moment. Most were very understanding when we explained the situation that the gate was only unlocked as someone was about to leave and we had reserved the site. Be sure to bring water and firewood but if you run out, there’s a great little market in Hebo that has all you need and the folks there are super nice (huge bonus). Ranger Scott at the Hebo Ranger Station was extremely kind and helpful and we look forward to coming back quite often - thank you! - j ai

Castle Rock Campground Introduce

For local adventurers in Oregon seeking the perfect "camping near me" experience, Castle Rock Campground, nestled along Three Rivers Hwy in Hebo, OR 97122, presents a compelling option. Situated in close proximity to the scenic Oregon Coast Range, this campground appears to offer a well-maintained and amenity-rich environment for a variety of camping styles, particularly appealing to tent campers and small groups. By examining the feedback from actual campers, we can gain a detailed understanding of what Castle Rock Campground offers within the "camping near me" category.

The natural environment surrounding Castle Rock Campground is a key aspect of its appeal. Located near Hebo, the campground benefits from the lush landscapes characteristic of the Oregon Coast. Campers can likely expect to be surrounded by forests, with the potential for nearby river access and scenic hiking opportunities. One reviewer specifically noted the "minimal noise from the road," suggesting a tranquil setting where the sounds of nature can truly be appreciated. The availability of "plenty of level sites to set up your tent" indicates that the campground has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate tent campers comfortably, a significant advantage for those prioritizing a traditional camping experience when searching for "camping near me." The presence of both potentially wooded and more open field areas within the campground offers a choice of camping environments to suit different preferences.

Castle Rock Campground stands out for its thoughtful services and features designed to enhance the camping experience. The provision of two distinct fire rings caters to different needs. The "quite large" fire ring located near the covered shelter serves as an excellent communal space for evening gatherings, providing warmth and ambiance for groups to socialize. The second, smaller fire ring, situated in the more open field, features a grate that swings over, offering a practical solution for cooking meals over an open fire or heating water – a desirable feature for those seeking an authentic outdoor cooking experience while "camping near me." The positive feedback regarding the cleanliness of the vault toilet ("cleaner than most I’ve seen and did not have any smells") is a significant indicator of well-maintained facilities, contributing to a more pleasant camping trip.

A particularly noteworthy feature of Castle Rock Campground is the availability of power, described by one happy camper as a "cool new feature!" The power source is located at the light post near the vault toilet, and campers can access it by bringing extension cords (a 30'+ cord is recommended to reach the covered shelter). This amenity offers a valuable convenience for charging electronic devices, powering lights within the camping area, or even running small appliances, adding a touch of modern comfort to the outdoor setting. The availability of power, especially in the communal shelter area, makes Castle Rock Campground a more versatile option for groups looking for "camping near me" with some electrical access.

The campground also boasts ample picnic facilities. The "gorgeous" covered shelter houses four large picnic tables, providing a spacious and protected area for meals, games, and socializing, regardless of weather conditions. Additionally, three more picnic tables are dispersed throughout the campsite, offering convenient dining and gathering spots for individual campsites or smaller groups. This abundance of picnic tables highlights the campground's suitability for both individual families and larger groups seeking a comfortable and well-equipped "camping near me" destination.

While the overall experience at Castle Rock Campground appears to be highly positive, one reviewer noted a minor inconvenience regarding the gate lock, which can be "quite difficult to get locked and unlocked." However, they strongly advised keeping the gate locked due to instances of non-campers attempting to enter the rented site, particularly to fish. This suggests that the campground might be located near an appealing fishing area, and campers should be diligent about security to ensure the exclusivity of their reserved space. The reviewer appreciated that most individuals were understanding when the reservation status was explained. The fact that the campground has a gate, even if the lock is a bit finicky, indicates an effort to manage access and provide some level of security for paying campers.

For essential supplies, campers are advised to bring their own water and firewood. However, a significant advantage is the proximity to a "great little market" in the nearby town of Hebo. This local market reportedly carries all necessary camping supplies, and the owners are described as "super nice," adding to the positive local atmosphere. This provides a convenient solution for campers who might need to replenish supplies or prefer to purchase them locally upon arrival, enhancing the overall convenience of "camping near me" at Castle Rock Campground.

The positive interaction with Ranger Scott at the Hebo Ranger Station is another valuable aspect. This suggests that the campground is likely associated with or near managed public lands, such as the Tillamook National Forest, and that park rangers are available and helpful. This can be a significant resource for campers seeking information about the area, hiking trails, or any regulations. The reviewer's enthusiasm about returning "quite often" speaks volumes about their positive experience and the helpfulness of the local ranger.

While specific promotional offers are not mentioned in the reviews, the positive feedback and the highlighting of key features such as power access, the covered shelter, and the proximity to local amenities serve as strong implicit endorsements for Castle Rock Campground. The mention of an $83 per night fee (including service fee) by one reviewer provides some indication of the cost for renting the entire campground, suggesting it might be particularly well-suited and priced for group camping experiences when searching for "camping near me" for a larger party.

A minor suggestion for improvement was the need for "better signage at road though," indicating that the campground might be slightly challenging to locate upon arrival. Potential visitors should be aware of this and perhaps use GPS coordinates or look for specific landmarks to ensure they find the entrance easily.

In conclusion, Castle Rock Campground near Hebo, Oregon, appears to be an exceptional choice for those seeking a well-equipped and enjoyable "camping near me" experience. Its appealing natural environment, combined with valuable services and features like level tent sites, two fire rings (including a large one by a powered shelter), clean vault toilets, ample picnic tables, and proximity to a helpful local community and ranger station, make it a highly recommended destination for tent campers and groups exploring the Oregon Coast Range.
