Catchin' Crickets Campground & Vacation Rental Introduce
For local adventurers and travelers exploring Michigan's stunning Upper Peninsula and searching for "camping near me," Catchin' Crickets Campground & Vacation Rental, located at N6874 H-15 49884, County Hwy, Munising, MI 49862, USA, offers a charming and conveniently situated basecamp. While a direct phone number isn't provided in the reviews, you can likely find contact information and booking details through online search engines or vacation rental platforms like Vrbo, especially for the cabin and home rentals mentioned.
Catchin' Crickets presents itself as a "cute little campground," suggesting a more intimate and perhaps less crowded camping experience compared to larger commercial campgrounds or state parks. This can be particularly appealing for those seeking a peaceful retreat in nature. One reviewer, accustomed to dispersed camping, found this campground to be a "perfect" alternative when such options were limited in the area, highlighting its suitability for those who appreciate a more natural setting with basic amenities.
The campground offers essential amenities to enhance a rustic camping experience. These include a water source (described as a hand pump), a bathroom, and firewood available for purchase. The provision of water is a significant convenience for campers, especially in areas where natural water sources might not be readily accessible or safe for drinking without treatment. The bathroom is identified as a pit toilet, but remarkably, it was described by one visitor as "the cleanest pit toilet I have EVER seen." This speaks volumes about the care and maintenance of the facilities at Catchin' Crickets, addressing a common concern associated with vault toilets in more rustic settings.
The location of Catchin' Crickets is a major advantage for those looking to explore the heart of the Upper Peninsula. It is specifically mentioned as being in an "excellent" location for exploring the UP and "very quiet minutes from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore." Pictured Rocks is a renowned natural attraction known for its stunning sandstone cliffs, waterfalls, and pristine shoreline along Lake Superior. The campground's proximity to this national treasure makes it an ideal spot for visitors planning to hike, kayak, boat, or simply admire the beauty of the area. Being centrally located in the UP also provides easy access to other attractions and towns in the region.
Each campsite at Catchin' Crickets is equipped with a fire pit and a picnic table, which are standard and highly appreciated amenities for any camping setup. The fire pit allows for campfires (when permitted) for cooking and ambiance, while the picnic table provides a convenient surface for meals and other activities. The availability of firewood for $5 a stack on-site is another plus, saving campers the hassle of sourcing it elsewhere.
An unusual but potentially appealing feature of Catchin' Crickets is the absence of formal check-in or check-out times. This "honest policy" suggests a relaxed and trusting management style, allowing campers more flexibility in their arrival and departure. The nightly rate for a campsite is mentioned as $25, which seems reasonable for the location and the amenities provided. The fact that a visitor stayed for three nights and noted that the campground "never got busy," with only about four campers a night, indicates a potentially tranquil and uncrowded camping experience, especially appealing for those seeking peace and quiet.
In addition to the traditional campsites, Catchin' Crickets also offers alternative accommodation options. There are "2 small cabins available for $50" per night, providing a more sheltered and comfortable stay for those who prefer not to tent camp. Furthermore, a "home available for rent through Vrbo" suggests that larger groups or families might find this an excellent option for a longer vacation in the area, combining the proximity to nature with the comforts of a house rental.
The reviews consistently convey a sense that the owners of Catchin' Crickets genuinely care about their campground. The cleanliness of the pit toilet and the overall positive experiences reported by visitors underscore this point. The unmanned nature of the campground, relying on an "honest policy" for payment, also speaks to a certain level of trust and community spirit. One reviewer explicitly stated that they "felt safe" during their stay, which is an important consideration for any traveler.
The mention of a restaurant/bar with good food located about one mile north of the campground adds another layer of convenience. While the campground itself focuses on a more rustic experience, having a nearby option for dining out can be a welcome addition, especially after a day of exploring Pictured Rocks or other UP attractions.
For local users looking for "camping near me" in the Munising area, particularly those planning to visit Pictured Rocks, Catchin' Crickets Campground & Vacation Rental offers a compelling combination of a convenient location, essential amenities, and a peaceful atmosphere. The availability of campsites, small cabins, and a larger home rental caters to different needs and preferences. The consistently positive reviews regarding cleanliness, the helpful amenities like water and firewood, and the quiet environment make it a strong contender for a memorable Upper Peninsula getaway. Remember to check Vrbo or other online platforms for booking the cabins or the home, and likely for contacting the campground management for campsite reservations and any specific inquiries.
In conclusion, Catchin' Crickets Campground & Vacation Rental provides a charming and well-maintained camping option in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, just minutes from the stunning Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Its clean facilities (including an exceptionally clean pit toilet), the availability of water and firewood, and the quiet, uncrowded atmosphere make it an excellent choice for those seeking a rustic yet comfortable "camping near me" experience. The added options of small cabin rentals and a larger home rental offer flexibility for different types of travelers. With its honest and caring management, Catchin' Crickets is a hidden gem for exploring the natural beauty of this remarkable region.

Catchin' Crickets Campground & Vacation Rental Reviews
Cute little campground! We normally do dispersed camping but in this area there wasn’t much that I could find. After a quick search we found this place and it was perfect. There’s water, a hand pump, a bathroom and firewood. The bathroom was the cleanest pit toilet I have EVER seen. Location was excellent as we were exploring the Upper Peninsula and you’re right in the heart of it here. Overall I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a camp spot in this area. It’s easy to see they care about their campground. There’s also a restaurant/bar with good food about one mile north of this campground.
Sep 01, 2024 · Karl BerringerFound this campground after failing to reserve ahead of time at any others. Very quite minutes from Pictured Rocks. The vault toilets were very clean and no bad smell! There is a well available and firewood for $5 a stack! Fire pit and picnic tables at each site. No check-in or check-out times. $25 a night for a site. 2 small cabins available for $50 and a home available for rent through Vrbo. Stayed here 3 nights and it never got busy! About 4 campers a night! Yes this campground is unmanned, so honest policy is in place for paying. Overall really enjoyed this campground we found on a whim and I felt safe!
Aug 12, 2024 · Peyton MillerGreat spot for rustic camping. Has a water pump and a cleanpit toilet. Night lights at each site. Very dim but enough to walk to restroom. Great price for wood and only 25$ a night is a steal. Location for trails is great too. A Third of the way up the coast means trails to east and west. Beach is 10 minutes by car. Great spot, and QUIET!! GET THERE NOW! you won't regret it. No electric or plumbing hook up.
Jul 14, 2024 · Trevor ScheweWe stayed here and it was perfect!!! Very private and it’s one of the first come first serve ones! Which is perfect for us! The bathrooms were the cleanest bathrooms at a camp I’ve ever seen! The spaces are nice! Not a lot of shade but the trees will fill out beautifully! Best part is it’s like 10 minutes out from all site seeing! There’s a cute restaurant right down the road. The gentlemen that runs the camp stopped by and it was super nice having someone check it! It made it very welcoming! The wood was well stocked and since there are not very many trees it makes it perfect for star gazing!!!!!
Jul 31, 2023 · Jessica SherbinoVery nice and clean. We were trail riding utvs and camping along the way. We lost 1 tent on the trail, and this place has a couple little cabins you can rent. Bathrooms were very clean.
