We found Cedar Lake on our search for a camping spot during the recent Eclipse. The campground has 200+ sites many of which are yearly sites that are occupied by families many who are horse lovers. We found all of the campers there to be friendly and welcoming. There were still plenty of electric/water hookup site choices for us with our 25’ camper trailer to chose from. There are also lots of nice primitive spots around the 25 acre lake which were nice. The campground has lots of open space which made it very nice for the eclipse viewing.Jessica, who manages the campground, was very friendly and helpful in showing us our spot.It is located in the Shawnee Forest and is close to many nice hiking trails, nice bike trail and several wineries.If/when we return to the area we would definitely stay here again - Rick Dresselhaus

Based on recent customer reviews, Cedar Lake Campground offers a welcoming atmosphere with a strong sense of community, particularly among horse enthusiasts, alongside convenient access to natural attractions and local amenities.

Environment and Ambiance:

Cedar Lake Campground spans a considerable area, boasting over 200 campsites, a significant portion of which are occupied by long-term or yearly residents, many of whom share a passion for horses. This creates a friendly and welcoming community atmosphere, as noted by visitors. The campground features a 25-acre lake, around which numerous "nice primitive spots" are located, offering a more rustic camping experience for those seeking immersion in nature. Additionally, the campground provides ample open space, which proved particularly advantageous for events like eclipse viewing, suggesting a layout that allows for unobstructed enjoyment of the surroundings. Being located within the Shawnee National Forest ensures that campers are surrounded by natural beauty and have easy access to the forest's extensive offerings.

Services and Amenities:

Cedar Lake Campground provides a range of services and amenities to accommodate various camping preferences. Key features highlighted by customer experiences include:

  • Electric and Water Hookup Sites: The campground offers a good number of electric and water hookup sites suitable for camper trailers and RVs. While generally roomy, some reviews noted that hookups are paired, potentially requiring extra hoses or extension cords depending on the site. Additionally, some sites may not have gravel pads, requiring extra attention for leveling.
  • Primitive Campsites: For those who prefer a more traditional camping experience, there are numerous primitive sites situated around the 25-acre lake, offering a closer connection to nature.
  • Bathhouse: The campground has at least one bathhouse available for guests. While functional, one review mentioned that the showers lacked a dedicated space to place bags outside the bathing area, with only a hook available inside some stalls.
  • Horse Facilities: A unique feature of Cedar Lake Campground is its extensive horse facilities, including a show area. This caters significantly to the community of horse lovers who frequent the campground. While non-horse enthusiasts may not directly utilize these facilities, they contribute to the campground's distinct character and friendly atmosphere.
  • Wi-Fi at the Office: Wi-Fi is available for guests at the campground office. While some campsites closer to the office might have access, the signal strength is likely limited for most of the campground.
  • Cell Service: Cell phone service in the area is reported as intermittent at best, which is typical for more remote locations within a national forest. Campers should be prepared for potentially limited connectivity.
  • Friendly and Helpful Management: Multiple reviews commend Jessica, the campground manager, for being very friendly and helpful, going out of her way to assist guests and ensure their needs are met.

The combination of developed and primitive sites, along with the unique horse-related amenities, positions Cedar Lake Campground as a versatile option within the "camping near me" category, appealing to a broad range of campers.
