Cedar River Campground Introduce
For local residents in Iowa searching for "camping near me," Cedar River Campground, located at 1231 306th St, Tipton, IA 52772, USA, presents a camping option with a mix of positive and negative feedback from recent visitors. You can contact them at (319) 471-0990 or their mobile number +1 319-471-0990 for inquiries and reservations.
One reviewer highlighted some significant drawbacks experienced during their stay. They noted that accessing the campground involves a quarter mile of gravel road, culminating in a steep hill down to the campsite. This could be a concern for certain types of vehicles or for those who prefer paved access. Additionally, this visitor reported that the bathrooms, specifically a permanent facility near the river, were not clean, with "winter dirt" and debris present. They also mentioned that the grass was not mowed and that they were charged full price despite many amenities being closed, including a mini-golf area that was covered in debris. Furthermore, they indicated that a road washout near site C4 made a pull-through site inaccessible for their large motorhome and truck. While basic water, electricity, and sewer hookups were available, this reviewer felt the overall experience was not worth the full price paid. They also noted significant highway noise, suggesting that a Walmart parking lot might be preferable for a desperate overnight stay due to this noise. Despite these issues, they speculated that the campground might be fun for families during its open season and mentioned seeing staff on a golf cart who were not particularly friendly. They did concede that the amenities "would get 5 stars if they were ready," implying potential that was not realized during their off-season visit.
In contrast, another reviewer had a more positive experience. They described it as a "nice camping spot." Initially assigned a back-in site that was unsuitable for their 36' rig, they appreciated that Melissa, presumably a staff member, upgraded them to a pull-through site that required no leveling. This positive interaction and the availability of a suitable site were highlights of their stay. This reviewer also noted that I-80 runs parallel to the campground, but the noise was not bothersome to them, as they actively seek out campgrounds close to the interstate when traveling. They specifically thanked Melissa for her assistance with the site change.
Based on these contrasting reviews, the environment and services at Cedar River Campground appear to vary depending on the time of year and potentially the specific location within the campground. The proximity to I-80 suggests that while convenient for travelers seeking an overnight stop, local users looking for a quiet, nature-filled retreat might be less inclined to choose this location due to potential highway noise. The presence of a river nearby, as indicated by the bathroom location mentioned in the negative review, could be a positive environmental feature during the open season, potentially offering scenic views or recreational opportunities, though this is not elaborated upon.
The features of Cedar River Campground seem to include basic utility hookups (water, electricity, and sewer) at some sites, particularly pull-through locations suitable for larger RVs. The mention of a mini-golf area suggests family-oriented recreational facilities are intended to be available during the open season. The presence of both permanent bathrooms near the river and potentially other restroom facilities (implied by the cleanliness issues raised) indicates that amenities are in place but may not always be well-maintained, especially during the off-season.
The availability of pull-through sites is a significant feature for RVers, as highlighted by the positive review. The willingness of staff, like Melissa, to accommodate camper needs by offering site upgrades is also a positive aspect of the service. However, the negative review raises concerns about cleanliness, maintenance (mowed grass, debris-free amenities), and the overall value for money, especially when all facilities are not fully operational.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Cedar River Campground presents a mixed picture. Its proximity to I-80 might be a draw for those needing a convenient stopover during travel, but the potential for highway noise could deter those seeking a peaceful natural escape. The availability of full hookups is a plus for RV owners. However, the reported issues with cleanliness, unmaintained amenities during the off-season, and the challenging gravel road access with a steep hill are significant drawbacks to consider.
Promotional information for Cedar River Campground should honestly address both its advantages and disadvantages. Highlighting the availability of pull-through sites with full hookups and the potential for family fun during the open season (if these are indeed reliable aspects) could attract certain segments of the local camping community. The campground's accessibility from I-80 could be emphasized for travelers passing through. However, it would be prudent to also manage expectations regarding potential noise from the interstate and the condition of amenities, especially during the shoulder seasons.
For local families with children specifically looking for "camping near me" with recreational activities like mini-golf, Cedar River Campground might be appealing during its fully operational season. However, they should inquire about the specific opening dates and ensure that the amenities are indeed well-maintained and accessible. RV owners, particularly those with larger rigs, should inquire about the accessibility of their assigned site, especially concerning the gravel road and any potential road washouts.
Ultimately, for local users considering Cedar River Campground, it is crucial to weigh the convenience of its location near I-80 and the potential for amenities during the open season against the reported issues of cleanliness, maintenance, and highway noise. Contacting the campground directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about current conditions, amenity availability, and site accessibility is highly recommended before making a reservation. This will help ensure that it meets your specific needs and expectations for a "camping near me" experience in the Tipton, Iowa area.

Cedar River Campground Reviews
We didn't know there would be a quarter mile of gravel to the campground with a steep hill down to our site. Bathrooms weren't cleaned-winter dirt on toilet seats in the permanent bathroom near the river with leaves blown in /neglected. Grass wasn't mowed. Full price even tho nothing was open. Mini golf had debris all over. The road was washed out near site c4, which was a pull through for our 65' motor home and towing a truck. We did have basic water, electricity & and sewer, but it was not worth the full price. If you have kids, this might be fun during the open season. People drove by on a golf cart but weren't friendly. If you are desperate for a night, a walmart parking lot would be better because of the highway noise. Amenities would get 5 stars if they were ready.
Apr 24, 2025 · S7Wa GNice camping spot. We originally had a back-in spot but wasn't appropriate for our 36' rig. Melissa upgraded us to a pull through, which was perfect, no leveling needed. I 80 runs parallel with the campground, but the noise wasn't bothersome to us. We try to find campgrounds close to the interstate when traveling to our destination spots. Thank you Melissa, for helping us with the switch.
Sep 30, 2024 · George and Patty VickersWe absolutely love this campground! The owners are nice and extremely helpful. Everyone has been super friendly and helpful. My kids love the pool, snack bar and the pool house. We especially loved candy bar bingo! Is next to the I-80 but that has never bothered us. I don’t notice the sound until someone asks about it. Permanent spots are close, but again that doesn’t bother us, especially with awesome neighbors. Great rates! Fun activities on the weekend! Super quick to cleanup after storms.
Jul 18, 2024 · Brittany ScottThis is a very nice campground, and the management is excellent and very nice people! They do fun activities for kids and even adults!!! The bathrooms were always clean! If you haven’t been there, try making it out to check it out! Me and my family will definitely return plenty more times!!!!
Sep 26, 2024 · Tanya YonkovicMelissa at Cedar River was so helpful to us when the spot we reserved was not a good fit. It was a nice campground with mature shade trees. Lots of family friendly stuff to do. Only thing was the expressway noise but it was fine with a fan to drown it out.
