Blanchard Island Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a unique and tranquil "camping near me" experience, Blanchard Island Campground, located at 34000 176th Ave W, New Boston, IL 61272, USA, offers a special primitive camping opportunity along the majestic Mississippi River. This campground distinguishes itself as a secluded and well-maintained destination, perfect for those who appreciate the serenity of nature and a more rustic camping style. According to visitor feedback, Blanchard Island provides a peaceful escape, often with a sense of solitude, making it an ideal choice for tent campers and those with small pop-up campers looking to connect with the natural environment.
The environment at Blanchard Island Campground is a significant draw for visitors. Situated directly on the banks of the Mississippi River, the campground boasts great views of the water and the surrounding landscape. The presence of mature trees throughout the camping area provides ample shade and contributes to the secluded and natural ambiance. Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the opportunity to observe various species, including raptors, geese, and fish, right from their campsite. The river setting offers a chance to witness the natural rhythms of the Mississippi and its diverse ecosystem. Notably, despite the presence of geese in the general area (often seen in neighboring crop fields or on the river itself), one reviewer specifically mentioned the absence of goose droppings within the campground, indicating careful maintenance. The combination of riverside locations, mature trees, and abundant wildlife creates a truly special and immersive natural environment for campers.
While Blanchard Island Campground is described as a "primitive" campground, it still offers essential services to ensure a comfortable stay. Importantly, potable water is available for campers' use. For those traveling with trailers (though primarily suited for tents and small pop-ups), a trailer dump station is also provided. The grounds are well-maintained, with the "lawn" areas being regularly mowed. Furthermore, the campground features a vault toilet that visitors have found to be clean and consistently stocked with toilet paper, a garbage can, and hand cleaner. Each campsite is thoughtfully equipped with a fire ring for campfires and outdoor cooking, as well as a picnic table for convenient meal preparation and enjoyment. These provisions strike a balance between a rustic camping experience and essential comforts, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the natural surroundings without sacrificing basic necessities.
The features of Blanchard Island Campground cater specifically to those seeking a more intimate connection with nature. The fact that all campsites are located directly on the river is a standout feature, providing stunning waterfront views and easy access to the Mississippi River. The mature trees at each site offer shade, privacy, and a sense of being immersed in the natural landscape. The primitive nature of the campground often translates to fewer crowds and a quieter, more secluded experience, as highlighted by a visitor who spent four days there and had the place mostly to themselves. It's important to note, however, a potential limitation for those with very long and/or low clearance vehicles, as crossing the levy to access the river side campground might present an issue. This suggests that the campground is best suited for tent campers and those with smaller, more maneuverable camping setups. The focus here is clearly on the natural beauty of the Mississippi River and the peacefulness of a well-maintained, yet primitive, camping environment.

Blanchard Island Campground Reviews
This is one of the most special primitive campgrounds I have visited.Great views, secluded and well maintained.I spent 4 days here, and had the place to myself most of the time. There is potable water available and a trailer dump station. The "lawn" is mowed. The vault toilet was clean and stocked with toilet paper, a garage can and hand cleaner.Sitting on the Mississippi River, there is wildlife, like raptors, geese and fish.I didn't notice any goose poop and I explored the entire camp. The geese seem to hang out in the neighboring crop fields or on the river.I think this is predominantly a tent and small popup campground. It is on the river side of the Levy, Very long and/or low clearance vehicles may have issues with the Levy crossing. All the sites have mature trees, fire ring, picnic table and are on the river.
