Clinch River Family Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" that offers a riverside experience in Virginia? Clinch River Family Campground, located at 7237 Anglers Way Rd, Duffield, VA 24244, with phone numbers (877) 254-6247 and +1 877-254-6247, presents itself as a family-friendly option along the picturesque Clinch River. However, recent reviews from visitors offer contrasting perspectives, highlighting both positive and negative aspects of the campground that potential local users should consider.
One overwhelmingly positive review recounts a significant event involving a flood due to unexpected river level changes. This experience showcased the strong sense of community and the proactive nature of the campground owner, Jason. According to the reviewer, when rising waters threatened the campground, everyone, including the owner, "banded together to move all the campers to higher grounds." Jason's personal involvement, even using his own truck to assist, and his subsequent efforts to restore essential services like electricity and water after the flood, despite his own home being affected, speak volumes about his dedication to the campers' safety and well-being. The reviewer also noted the "complete peace and tranquility" that followed, describing the river as "beautiful and quiet with wildlife all around." The availability of "great" Wi-Fi and the campground being "very pet friendly" were also highlighted as significant positives, leading the reviewer to extend their stay.
In stark contrast, another review presents a considerably less favorable experience. This visitor felt that the campground was "NOT as represented," expressing disappointment with several key aspects. They reported that access to the water was difficult due to an overgrown shoreline and steps, and the boat launch was described as "muddy and not really a launch." The playground was labeled as "old and dirty," and the campsites were criticized for being "way too close" to each other. Additionally, the reviewer mentioned that the roads to the campground were "extremely narrow" and the last half was a "bumpy gravel" road, making the 20-minute drive from the main road inconvenient. Other concerns included "permanent campers" with "big dogs" (advising to keep pets close and leashed) and the permanent residents being "a little messy." The absence of a "real waste dump" was also noted. This reviewer strongly suggested that the campground "should be for tent camping only" and recommended camping at "Natural Tunnel state park" instead, urging others to compare the website pictures with their own negative experiences.
Considering the platform category "camping near me," Clinch River Family Campground's location along the Clinch River could be a significant draw for local users seeking a riverside camping experience. The positive review emphasizes the potential for a "peaceful stay" and the beauty of the natural surroundings, including wildlife. The pet-friendly policy is also a notable feature for those who travel with animals. The availability of Wi-Fi can be an important amenity for many campers looking to stay connected.
However, the negative review raises serious concerns about the accessibility and quality of the riverfront, the condition of the facilities (playground), the spacing of campsites, and the overall upkeep of the campground. The challenging road conditions leading to the campground could also be a deterrent for some visitors, especially those with larger vehicles or trailers.
Based on these contrasting accounts, the environment of Clinch River Family Campground appears to have the potential for natural beauty and tranquility, as highlighted by the positive review. The presence of the river and surrounding wildlife could offer a serene backdrop for a camping trip. However, the negative review suggests that the actual condition of the river access areas (shoreline, steps, boat launch) might not meet expectations due to overgrowth and mud. The playground is described as old and dirty, which could be a concern for families with young children. The proximity of campsites might lead to a less private experience.
Information about specific services and amenities is limited to the mention of Wi-Fi in the positive review. The negative review points out the lack of a "real waste dump," which is a crucial service for any campground. Potential visitors should inquire about other essential services such as water hookups, electricity, restroom facilities (beyond the flood event mention), and waste disposal procedures. The owner's responsiveness and helpfulness during the flood emergency, as described in the positive review, suggest a degree of commitment to camper safety. However, this doesn't directly address the routine services and maintenance of the campground under normal conditions.
Features of Clinch River Family Campground seem to include its riverside location, pet-friendly policy, and Wi-Fi access. The potential for wildlife viewing is also suggested by the positive review. However, the negative review indicates potential drawbacks such as overgrown river access, a subpar boat launch, a dirty playground, and closely spaced campsites. The narrow and bumpy access road could also be considered a negative feature for some.
No specific promotional information or special offers are mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in Clinch River Family Campground should contact them directly via the provided phone numbers to inquire about current rates, availability, and any ongoing promotions. It would also be wise to ask for detailed information about the campground layout, amenities, and the condition of the river access and other facilities, especially in light of the contrasting reviews.
In conclusion, Clinch River Family Campground presents a mixed picture for local users searching for "camping near me." While the positive review highlights the potential for a peaceful riverside stay, a pet-friendly atmosphere, and a responsive owner during an emergency, the negative review raises significant concerns about the condition of the river access, playground, campsite spacing, and overall maintenance. Potential visitors should carefully consider these contrasting experiences and are strongly advised to contact the campground directly for more detailed and up-to-date information before making a decision. Visiting the campground in person, if feasible, or seeking additional reviews from other sources might also be beneficial to get a more comprehensive understanding of what to expect.

Clinch River Family Campground Reviews
Having a peaceful stay! We are familiar with life on the Clinch River and winter levels on it. We watched the level reports several weeks back, and they were off by a lot the entire time. By the time we realized, we were unable to get out Anglers Way to the highway. We were able to move to the highest point in the campground for the duration of the flood. While the surges were happening, everyone here banded together to move all the campers to higher grounds. The owner, Jason, was right there with us moving everyone to safety. Got his truck to help move campers etc as a young man was waiting for his father to return from hours away and couldn't get through. Once the waters receded, Jason was out there repairing electricity and water taps to get us back up and running, despite his own home being flooded by several feet. Now there is complete peace and tranquility. The river is beautiful and quiet with wildlife all around. We have decided to extend our stay as we have all we need. Wifi works great. While you may not want to risk the moodiness of the Clinch River in the winter, we can attest that you can stay safe at 28 feet! Lol But seriously, it is a very quiet and peaceful location. They are very pet friendly which is huge with us.
Mar 12, 2025 · Beth TignorThe owners are nice but the campground is NOT as represented! You can’t really get to the water, the shoreline and steps down are overgrown, the boat launch is muddy and not really a launch. The playground is old and dirty, the camp stops are way too close, the roads are extremely narrow and takes 20 minutes to get there from the main road. The last half of the road is bumpy gravel. I could go on this should be for tent camping only. Needless to say we didn’t enjoy our stay. Permanent campers have big dogs so keep you pets close and leashed. Also the permanent people are a little messy. No real waste dump. Camp at “Natural Tunnel state park”. Look at the website pictures Vs the ones I posted.

Sep 11, 2024 · Arthur OcullGreat spot "away from it all" Down a curvy road but it is manageable. Quiet & peaceful by the river and we had our own lil waterfall (really a drainage pipe? From the mountain across the river, but soothing sound) Brian and his wife were very friendly & accommodating. Great price on firewood!! We'll certainly come back. We stayed there the day it opened for the season and had the whole place to ourselves. 😁😁
Apr 04, 2019 · Happy WanderingThe campground was nice and maintained. We originally booked an RV site to fit two cars and tent camp instead, but Christy, our amazing camp host, gave us an electric site (with 110v electric) since we paid extra for that. We would have booked a tent spot on the water, but they were all booked and the parking situation was very confusing on the RA website. There were not enough picnic tables for each campsite and the campsites were way too close together, thankfully no one was tent camping even though the site said they were booked.Overall, Christy was an exceptional host, very knowledgeable about the Duffield area and esp about Devil’s Bathtub, which is why we camped here. Also the reviews were very positive regarding Christy, and she did not disappoint! She was extremely knowledgeable about the campground layout and even offered to rent tubes to us for the river!
