Coos Canyon Campground & Cabins Introduce
For local adventurers in search of a memorable "camping near me" experience, Coos Canyon Campground & Cabins, located at 445 Swift River Rd, Byron, ME 04275, USA, offers a blend of natural beauty and varied accommodation options. This campground appears to be a popular choice, with reviewers highlighting its appealing environment and spacious sites, alongside some notes regarding customer service.
One reviewer expressed a deep appreciation for the location, particularly mentioning a "magical" cabin setting. This suggests that those opting for cabin rentals can expect a potentially enchanting and scenic experience. The campground also seems to cater to those who value a quieter and more peaceful atmosphere. One guest, accustomed to state parks, found the sites at Coos Canyon to be "more spacious and private in comparison." This is a significant advantage for campers seeking a sense of seclusion and ample room to relax and set up their camp.
The cleanliness of the facilities is another positive aspect noted by a visitor who stayed on the lower half of the campground, mentioning that "the sites and bathrooms were clean." This is an important factor for many campers when choosing a location for their "camping near me" getaway, indicating that at least some areas of the campground are well-maintained in terms of hygiene.
The location of Coos Canyon Campground also offers proximity to local activities. While not explicitly detailed in these reviews, the mention of the Swift River Road address suggests potential access to the Swift River and the natural attractions around Byron, Maine. One reviewer advised checking the book in the office for "things to do in the area and/or directions," indicating that the campground provides resources for exploring local points of interest.
However, the reviews also bring up a point regarding customer service that potential visitors should be aware of. One guest shared a mixed experience, praising a staff member named Liz as "fantastic" and making them feel "very comfortable" during both of their visits. Conversely, they had a less positive interaction with another staff member, believed to be named Kassi, whom they described as "not a friendly person whatsoever, on the borderline of being rude," and consistently appearing bothered. This feedback suggests that while some staff members provide excellent service, experiences might vary.
On a different note, one reviewer mentioned occasionally hearing ATVs coming in and out. This implies that the campground might be accommodating to ATV enthusiasts, which could be a feature for some local users looking for "camping near me" with such access. However, this same reviewer also noted that despite this, the campground was "probably the most respectful campground we’ve been to in terms of neighbors/noise," even during a busy Labor Day weekend, suggesting that noise levels are generally well-managed by fellow campers.
Another practical piece of information shared by a guest is the limited availability of WiFi, which is only accessible near the bathrooms and the main office. For those who need to stay connected, this is an important consideration. If you are looking for a completely unplugged experience, this might not be a concern, but if occasional internet access is necessary, you'll need to be near these designated areas.
To synthesize the environment, services, and features of Coos Canyon Campground & Cabins based on the provided reviews:
- Potentially "magical" and scenic locations, especially for cabins.
- Spacious and private campsites compared to some state parks (lower half of campground).
- Clean sites and bathrooms (lower half of campground).
- Quiet and peaceful environment, with respectful neighbors even during peak times.
- Possible ATV access.
- Limited WiFi availability (near bathrooms and main office).
- Information available in the office about local attractions and directions.
- Mixed feedback regarding customer service, with some staff members being highly praised while others were not.
Given the feedback on customer service, it might be beneficial for local users considering this "camping near me" option to be aware that experiences could vary. However, the positive comments about the beauty of the location, the spaciousness and cleanliness of the sites, and the peaceful atmosphere suggest that the overall camping experience is generally well-received.

In conclusion, Coos Canyon Campground & Cabins presents itself as a potentially excellent choice for those seeking "camping near me" in Byron, Maine. With its beautiful location, spacious and clean campsites, and generally peaceful environment, it caters well to individuals and families looking to enjoy the outdoors. Coos Canyon Campground & Cabins Reviews
I really love this place, the location of my cabin was magical the only problem that I had was the customer service could have been a lot better.. one apple can spoil the bunch... Liz was fantastic however there was another lady there I believe her name was kassi, she was not a friendly person whatsoever, on the borderline of being rude. Never a smile! She always act like she was being bothered even when checking in.. my husband and I hated going to the office because we were afraid she was there.. so we would kind of sneak around the corner to see if Liz was there and if Liz was there then we would go into the store and buy our things... We was having way too good of a time to have Kassie ruin it.. so we just tried to avoid her... Other than that it was fabulous.. we have gone to coos canyon twice in both times this lady made us feel like this.... On the other hand Liz was there both times and made us feel very comfortable
Jan 20, 2025 · Jenifer PomeroyWe loved it here. We’re used to state parks for the most part, so these sites felt more spacious and private in comparison. It was very quiet and peaceful, and the sites and bathrooms were clean (we stayed on the lower half of the campground). You could occasionally hear the ATVs coming in and out, but this is probably the most respectful campground we’ve been to in terms of neighbors/noise, even over Labor Day weekend when the campground was full. We loved this area and would definitely come back to this campground. Definitely check the book in the office for things to do in the area and/or directions and keep in mind that you only get wifi near the bathrooms and main office.
Sep 10, 2024 · Cassidy GilmoreBeen camping here for 15 years or so — it’s my home away from home. The staff is incredible and welcoming, the sites are beautiful, and the surrounding area is stunning.I always do my best to leave places better than I find them, but it’s pretty hard to do at Coos because EVERYTHING (bathrooms, privies, common areas, grounds) is kept immaculate. It’s kid and pet friendly, quiet, and the seasonal campers are all lovely.Whether you’re looking for a cozy cabin, full hookups, or a gorgeous river-side spot to chuck a tent… Coos Canyon Campground has you covered. I just can’t recommend this place enough.
Sep 17, 2024 · Lydia RomanoThere is a wonderful little fire pit. There is also a great porch to sit out on. Love the mornings with a fresh cup of coffee and listen to the river. Great way to start the day. The kitchen is well stocked with the necessary utensils. AWESOME
Oct 23, 2024 · Debra HainesBathrooms are spacious and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. We love that we have direct access to the ATV trails. This was our first time there but definitely will be back again.
