When considering campgrounds identified through a search for "camping near me," it's beneficial to review feedback from fellow campers to gain insights into the current state of the facilities and the overall camping experience. The available user reviews for Cove Lake State Park Campground present somewhat contrasting perspectives that local users should consider.
One reviewer, reflecting on past experiences, expressed disappointment with the park's perceived decline over time. This individual mentioned fond memories of camping, swimming, and bike riding on the trails during their younger years. However, their recent observations indicate that the pool is now gone, and the campsites have been "stripped of most trees," leading to a general sense of lacking amenities. This reviewer suggests a focus on lower overhead and increased profit, implying a potential reduction in the quality of the park's offerings compared to the past. For local users who may have visited Cove Lake State Park in previous years and are now searching for "camping near me" with similar expectations, this review serves as a cautionary note about potential changes.
In contrast, another recent reviewer offers a much more positive assessment of Cove Lake State Park Campground. This camper stated that the campground has "never disappointed" them across multiple stays in the summer, spring, and fall. They consistently found it to be "clean, quiet, and accommodating." A significant point of praise was the size of the campsites, which were described as "large enough for my needs and will work for most rigs," suggesting suitability for both RV and tent camping. This reviewer also characterized the campground as a "hidden gem" that might not be immediately obvious, offering a sense of discovery for those searching for "camping near me." Their strong endorsement, indicated by "Two MASSIVE thumbs up," suggests a highly satisfactory experience.
Considering these differing viewpoints, local users searching for "camping near me" and considering Cove Lake State Park Campground should weigh these perspectives. The negative review highlights potential reductions in amenities, specifically the absence of a pool and a decrease in shade due to tree removal. These could be important factors for campers seeking recreational swimming opportunities or shaded campsites during warmer months.
On the other hand, the positive review emphasizes the cleanliness, quiet atmosphere, and accommodating nature of the campground. The spacious campsites, suitable for various types of camping setups, are also a significant advantage. The "hidden gem" aspect might appeal to local campers looking for a less crowded and more tranquil camping experience within a state park setting.
As Cove Lake State Park is a state-managed facility, it is likely to offer certain standard amenities associated with Tennessee State Parks. These often include restrooms with showers, picnic tables, fire rings or grills at campsites, and potentially access to park-maintained trails for hiking and biking. Given the mention of bike riding trails in the negative review (though in the context of past experiences), it's probable that such trails still exist within the park, even if the overall campground environment has changed for some visitors.
The presence of Cove Lake itself suggests that the park likely offers lake-related recreational activities, although the absence of the pool mentioned in the negative review implies that swimming might be limited to the lake, if permitted, or perhaps no longer a primary feature within the campground area. Local users interested in swimming should inquire about current regulations and designated swimming areas.
For local RV owners searching "camping near me," the positive review's mention of "large enough" sites that "will work for most rigs" is encouraging. However, it would be prudent to contact the park directly to inquire about specific RV site amenities such as electric, water, and sewer hookups, as these details were not provided in the reviews. Similarly, tent campers might want to ask about the availability of shaded tent sites, given the concern raised in the negative review about tree removal.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of the current services and features at Cove Lake State Park Campground, local users are strongly encouraged to contact the park directly using the provided phone numbers. Inquiring about the status of the pool (whether it is permanently closed or under renovation), the availability of shade at campsites, the specific amenities offered at both RV and tent sites, and the condition of the bike trails would be beneficial. Additionally, asking about any current park rules, regulations regarding lake access and swimming, and any potential fees or reservation procedures is essential for planning a camping trip.
As a Tennessee State Park, Cove Lake State Park Campground may also offer access to other park facilities and activities, such as fishing, boating (if allowed on the lake), wildlife viewing, and educational programs. Local users interested in these aspects of a state park experience should inquire about what is currently available.
In conclusion, Cove Lake State Park Campground near Caryville, TN, presents a mixed picture based on the available local user reviews within the "camping near me" category. While one reviewer expresses disappointment with perceived declines in amenities and environment, another highlights the campground's cleanliness, quietness, spacious sites, and overall accommodating nature. Local users considering this campground should contact the park directly to obtain current information on amenities, site conditions, and available activities to make an informed decision based on their individual preferences and needs for a "camping near me" experience.

Cove Lake State Park Campground Reviews
Park has went down hill since I was younger. Always looked forward to camping, swimming and riding bikes on the trails. Now the pool is gone camp sites have been stripped of most trees and everything is lack of. They got low overhead with more profit
Apr 23, 2025 · Patrick SpearsThis campground has never disappointed me. I have stayed in the summer, Spring, Fall. Every time it is clean, quiet, and accommodating. The sites are large enough for my needs and will work for most rigs. It seems like a hidden gem that you wouldn’t know is there. Two MASSIVE thumbs up from me.
Sep 03, 2024 · Curtis HaleyThis is a great state park. We camped here in a 30ft trailer a number of times. Plenty of room for big and small. Bathrooms are clean, grass is cut, plenty of hiking opportunities, tennis and pickel ball, fishing, and playground for the kids. We particularly enjoyed the story book hike. Family friendly. Easy access from the interstate. Will camp here again. Has electric and water, plus dump station.
Jun 22, 2022 · David WolfeThe campsites are well kept. The showers were nice with plenty of hot water. Shower houses were equally distant from our well shaded campsite. Wal Mart is about 2.5 miles from the site, which is very convenient in case you forget some tackle and they do have live bait. There is power and water available.
Sep 03, 2023 · Stuart RobertsLet me tell you about this place! There's almost no walking trail to speak of, the camping area is pretty small, although it is clean and quiet, you can't launch a jon boat whatsoever anywhere inside the park either. You can however rent a boat, but if you do you'll have to paddle it or bring a trolling motor and battery! If you like camping without any trails and can't stand fishing this quiet place may be for you! You may even give it 5 stars. Personally, i just can't do it!
