Sitting on a peninsula, it has water on three side but minimal views from the campground. That does not matter. This charming park has so much to offer. A short walk to the river side opens up extraordinary view. A beach, ball park, walking trails and nature center. Nestled next to a capped off and since retired landfill. The landfill is now a gorgeous bird sanctuary with miles of walking trails. The MTA is a mile and a half away for your hour long train ride to the city. The campground itself is tight but easily accessible. Some sites are too short for longer rigs, so make sure you detail your rig length with the office when booking. We stayed in site 17 with was perfect. Full hook up with clean water and 50 amp service. Some sewer taps are behind the site, so have an extra section of sewer hose handy. The bathhouses are dated but cleaned daily. The showers are an issue. The water its heated by solar and will never get warm enough for even the most diehard cold shower fanatic. Westchester County is unapologetic about that so, it's not worth the fuss. If you have a tall rig, your GPS will send you into the abyss with low overpasses. Make sure you use RVLife or another method to avoid the low overpasses. Another word of caution and your GPS won't protect you from this; the roads leading into and out of the park are worse than roads in Bolivia. Potholes have potholes. If your tire pressure is too high, you may have a few items displaced in your RV. You've been warned. Cold showers, poor roads and low overpasses are not going to keep me away from this extraordinary campground. Highly recommended. We have met the most kind and friendly folks while camping here. We will be back. We camped at Croton Point Park Campground in a Travel Trailer. - Scott Andrews

Croton Point Park Campground Introduce

For our users in US searching for "camping near me" and seeking a destination with a blend of natural beauty, recreational activities, and even urban accessibility, let's explore Croton Point Park Campground, located at Croton Point Ave, Croton-On-Hudson, NY 10520, USA. While situated in New York, understanding the distinctive features and potential drawbacks of this campground, as highlighted by visitor reviews, can provide a comprehensive perspective when evaluating local options available through "camping near me" platforms in US.

Croton Point Park Campground, reachable by phone at (914) 862-5290 or mobile at +1 914-862-5290, offers a unique camping experience due to its peninsula location, providing water on three sides. While direct waterfront views from the campsites might be minimal, the park itself boasts a wealth of attractions and amenities. Reviews from campers paint a picture of a charming location with a strong sense of community and a variety of things to do, despite some infrastructure limitations. One reviewer enthusiastically recommends it, highlighting the friendly fellow campers and their intention to return, despite mentioning cold showers and poor road conditions. Another praises the pleasant tent area and clean showers but raises concerns about the invasive kudzu plant.

Environment and Setting: Situated on a peninsula, Croton Point Park Campground benefits from a unique waterfront environment. While immediate views from campsites might be limited, a short walk opens up "extraordinary views" of the river. The park also features a beach, suggesting opportunities for swimming and enjoying the waterfront. Additionally, the campground is nestled next to a former landfill that has been transformed into a "gorgeous bird sanctuary with miles of walking trails," offering a unique opportunity for nature walks and birdwatching. When searching for "camping near me" in US, consider if you prefer waterfront locations or campgrounds near nature preserves or parks with walking trails.

Diverse Camping Options: Reviews indicate that Croton Point Park Campground accommodates various types of campers, including those with RVs and those who prefer tent camping. The tent area is noted to be separated from the RV area and cabins, providing a distinct experience for different camping styles. If you are browsing "camping near me" in US, check if the listings specify separate areas for tents and RVs, which can influence your choice based on your preferred camping style.

Full Hookups for RVs: For RV campers, at least some sites, like site 17 mentioned in a review, offer "full hook up with clean water and 50 amp service." Sewer taps might be located behind some sites, requiring an extra section of sewer hose. When looking at "camping near me" options in US for RVs, verify the availability of full hookups, including water, electricity (and amperage), and sewer connections, as these can vary significantly.

Basic but Clean Bathhouses: The bathhouses are described as "dated but cleaned daily," indicating a commitment to cleanliness despite the age of the facilities. However, a significant drawback mentioned is the solar-heated showers, which reportedly "will never get warm enough" even for those who tolerate cold showers. This is a crucial point to consider if warm showers are important to you. When using "camping near me" in US, reviews often provide insights into the condition and functionality of bathroom facilities, including shower temperature and water pressure.

Recreational Amenities: Beyond camping, Croton Point Park offers a range of recreational amenities, including a beach for swimming, a ball park, walking trails (both within the park and in the adjacent bird sanctuary), and a nature center. This variety of options makes it a destination where campers can engage in different activities without leaving the park. When searching for "camping near me" in US, look for campgrounds that offer on-site recreational facilities or are located near attractions like beaches, sports fields, or nature centers.

Unique Bird Sanctuary: The transformation of a former landfill into a "gorgeous bird sanctuary with miles of walking trails" is a unique feature of Croton Point Park. This offers campers the opportunity to explore a reclaimed natural space and observe local wildlife. If you are interested in birdwatching or exploring unique natural habitats, consider if any "camping near me" options in US are located near similar reclaimed or specially designated natural areas.

Accessibility via Public Transportation: For those who might want to explore beyond the park or even take a trip to the city, the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) is located about a mile and a half away, offering an hour-long train ride to the city (presumably New York City). This accessibility to public transportation is a notable feature for a campground located outside a major urban center. When looking at "camping near me" in US, consider if proximity to public transport is a factor for you, especially if you plan to explore surrounding areas without a personal vehicle.

Potential Infrastructure Challenges: Several infrastructure challenges are mentioned in the reviews. These include campsites being "tight" and some being too short for longer RV rigs (emphasizing the need to detail rig length when booking). Additionally, the roads leading into and out of the park are described as being in very poor condition with numerous potholes. Finally, GPS navigation might lead tall RVs to low overpasses, necessitating the use of RV-specific navigation tools. When considering "camping near me" in US, reviews often mention the condition of roads within and leading to the campground, as well as any potential navigational hazards for larger vehicles.

Invasive Kudzu: One reviewer expressed concern about the invasive kudzu vine "killing this park" by choking other plants. This highlights a potential environmental issue that might affect the park's long-term beauty and ecological health. While not directly related to the camping experience itself, it's a factor to be aware of. When exploring "camping near me" in US, you might occasionally find reviews mentioning environmental concerns or the condition of the natural surroundings.

Strong Sense of Community: Despite the infrastructure issues, one reviewer noted, "We have met the most kind and friendly folks while camping here," suggesting a welcoming and social atmosphere among campers. If a sense of community is important to you, look for reviews on "camping near me" platforms in US that mention the friendliness of other campers and the overall social environment of the campground.

Promotional Information: The provided information does not include any specific promotional details for Croton Point Park Campground. When searching for "camping near me" in US, be sure to check for any special offers, seasonal discounts, or packages that might be available.

In conclusion, Croton Point Park Campground offers a unique camping experience with its peninsula location, access to waterfront views and activities, a fascinating bird sanctuary, and even public transportation to the city. While it has some notable infrastructure challenges like cold showers and poor roads, the positive reviews highlight the park's charm, friendly community, and diverse recreational opportunities. For users in US searching for "camping near me," this example illustrates the importance of considering both the appealing features and the potential drawbacks mentioned in reviews to make an informed decision about a campground that aligns with your priorities and preferences.
