If your exploration under the category of 'camping near me' has you seeking a destination with excellent facilities, beautiful waterfront views, and opportunities for swimming, then Curlew Lake Campground near Republic, WA, is a compelling option. Located at 68 State Park Rd, this campground has received high praise for its clean amenities and picturesque setting, making it an attractive choice for families, couples, and solo adventurers alike.
The environment of Curlew Lake Campground is centered around the scenic Curlew Lake, offering many campsites with beautiful lake views. One reviewer specifically recommends the lower loop, particularly site 76, for its slightly secluded location down a gentle slope and its direct access for swimming. The presence of a slope leading down to the water from some sites adds to the natural charm and provides easy access for lakeside enjoyment. While one visitor noted the presence of algae in the lake, they also mentioned that the water becomes clearer further out, suggesting that swimming is still a pleasant activity. The campground is also noted to have trees, although it's advisable to be prepared for potential sun exposure at your specific site. The overall atmosphere appears to be one of natural beauty and tranquility, enhanced by the lakeside setting.
The services and facilities at Curlew Lake Campground are consistently highlighted as fantastic. A significant advantage is the availability of full restrooms equipped with showers and electrical outlets, providing a level of comfort often appreciated by campers. Water pumps are conveniently located every couple of campsites, ensuring easy access to potable water throughout the campground. The presence of helpful and friendly park rangers adds to the positive experience, offering assistance and ensuring the smooth operation of the campground. While a specific mention of RV hookups or a dump station is absent in the provided reviews, the presence of full restrooms with showers suggests that the campground caters well to both tent and RV campers looking for good basic amenities. The combination of clean restrooms, accessible water, and helpful staff contributes to a comfortable and convenient camping experience.
The features of Curlew Lake Campground extend beyond its basic amenities. The lower loop, with its lake views and direct swimming access, is a notable feature for those seeking a waterfront experience. The swimming opportunities in Curlew Lake are a significant draw, despite the mention of algae near the shore. The slightly more secluded nature of some sites, like site 76, offers a degree of privacy that some campers value. However, visitors should be aware of the local wildlife, particularly the "rambunctious squirrels" that one reviewer humorously warned about, noting their tendency to drop pinecones. Additionally, the presence of "passive but hungry bees" is mentioned, especially when cooking meat, suggesting that campers should be prepared to manage interactions with these insects. The campground's proximity to Curlew Lake State Park likely provides access to additional recreational activities and scenic areas in the vicinity. The positive reviews from multiple visitors indicate a consistently enjoyable experience, making it a reliable choice for those seeking a lakeside camping destination.

Curlew Lake Campground Reviews
The facilities are fantastic! There are full restrooms with showers and outlets. Water pumps every couple of campsites. Park rangers are helpful and friendly. A+++
Jul 11, 2024 · JessicaYou may bee in a squirrelly situation if you don’t bring hard hats! Lake Curlew Campground has much to offer. Clean bathrooms and accessible water. The lower loop is where it’s at, site 76 was down a slight slope and was far enough away from all the other sites. It has a beautiful view of the lake, and another slop that you can walk down to swim out of. There is a lot of algae but the further you swim out, the clearer it gets. The only caveat is the rambunctious squirrels, or in our case one squirrel, who attempted to drop pinecones on our heads…quite aggressively. And to note passive but hungry bees are present. If cooking meat, and they will want a snack. Be prepared to make friends with the wildlife!
Aug 11, 2024 · Karlee DavidsonWe camped here for a weekend with our two dogs and loved it. We were close to the lake and the restrooms and showers in our loop were very clean. Some of the cleanest I’ve seen! There’s service sufficient to receive a text but not to stream, and you’re 15 minutes to Republic so if you forget something or want to eat out, you have easy access to creature comforts. The lake itself is perfect for kayaking and swimming and there’s a couple little trails for short hikes. We had a lot of fun and will definitely be back!
Jul 20, 2023 · Samantha ClarkThis campground was so well maintained, we were very impressed! It was our first camping trip with our baby and we picked the perfect time (mid week) to go as it was very quiet. It was a great experience and we loved the deer that visited our site!
Sep 10, 2021 · Meghan MillerGreat host and great staff and park ranger, clean, with lots of trails and swimming and lots to see . The elk and many animals to enjoy. Back of the park has two adult Seahawks taking care of there young. Don't forget to check out the old wooden train trestle at the lakes end.
