Frances Slocum State Park Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking the perfect 'camping near me' experience, Frances Slocum State Park Campground, located on an Unnamed Road in Wyoming, PA 18644, USA, offers a blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Based on recent feedback from fellow campers, this campground provides a generally well-maintained environment with notable highlights and some considerations for potential visitors.
One of the most consistently praised aspects of Frances Slocum State Park Campground is its cleanliness and upkeep. Multiple reviewers commend the park's maintenance, indicating a commitment to providing a pleasant and tidy environment for campers. This attention to detail contributes significantly to a positive overall experience, ensuring that basic amenities are generally in good order.
Nature enthusiasts will find themselves drawn to the extensive network of hiking trails within the park. One review specifically mentions a "moderate" campground trail with a "decent step climb," suggesting opportunities for both leisurely strolls and more challenging hikes. The presence of "plenty of other hiking trails also" indicates that visitors can explore diverse terrains and scenic vistas throughout the park. This makes Frances Slocum State Park Campground an attractive option for those who prioritize outdoor activities and immersing themselves in nature when searching for 'camping near me'.
The campground itself is described as "not huge," which some campers may appreciate for its potentially quieter and more intimate atmosphere. This smaller size could contribute to a greater sense of community and easier access to facilities. Furthermore, the adherence to the 9 pm quiet hour was generally observed, fostering a peaceful environment for rest and relaxation. While one reviewer noted the occasional inconsiderate group, the overall sentiment suggests that the campground management and fellow campers largely respect the quiet hours.
A significant positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the exceptional service provided by the camp hosts. Described as "amazing," "friendly," and "very helpful," the camp hosts appear to play a crucial role in ensuring a positive experience for visitors. Their helpfulness can be invaluable for navigating the campground, addressing concerns, and providing local information.
For RV campers exploring 'camping near me' options, Frances Slocum State Park Campground offers practical amenities such as a potable water fill station and a dump station. These facilities are essential for RV maintenance and contribute to a more comfortable and self-sufficient camping experience.
However, potential visitors should also be aware of some drawbacks mentioned in the reviews. A recurring concern is the proximity of the campsites to one another. Reviewers noted that the sites are "very close together for the most part," which might impact privacy and the feeling of seclusion. While a few "really good sites that offer a bit more privacy" exist, they may be limited and in high demand.
Pet owners searching for 'pet-friendly camping near me' should take note of the limited number of designated dog sites. This could pose a challenge for those traveling with canine companions, potentially restricting their campsite options. Additionally, a significant concern raised is the non-dog-friendly status of the lake due to a cyanoalgae bloom, which can be toxic to animals. This unfortunately means that pet owners may need to take turns enjoying lake-related activities while ensuring their dogs' safety.
Fishing enthusiasts might find the lake less appealing due to an "overabundance of catfish" and a prevalence of "cats and sunnies." This suggests that those hoping for a more diverse or challenging fishing experience might be disappointed.
Another critical issue raised by a reviewer is the condition of the bathrooms. They were described as "extremely dirty" and "seriously lacking in toilet paper," particularly when the campground is full. This is a significant concern for basic hygiene and comfort and should be taken into consideration when planning a visit.
Furthermore, one camper reported issues with the electrical service at their site, specifically with the 50 amp service tripping frequently due to overheating. This suggests a potential need for an "electricity upgrade at the campsites" to ensure reliable power for RVs and other electrical needs.
Despite these drawbacks, the park's overall beauty and the abundance of hiking trails remain strong attractions. The quiet atmosphere of the campground, even when full, is also a notable positive for those seeking a peaceful retreat in nature.
In conclusion, Frances Slocum State Park Campground offers a generally positive 'camping near me' experience characterized by its clean and well-maintained environment, extensive hiking trails, and helpful camp hosts. However, potential visitors should be aware of the closely spaced campsites, limited dog-friendly options, the non-dog-friendly lake, potentially poor fishing, and reported issues with bathroom cleanliness and electrical service. By considering these factors, local users can make an informed decision about whether Frances Slocum State Park Campground aligns with their camping preferences and needs.

Frances Slocum State Park Campground Reviews
Pros: Park is very clean and well maintained.👍 The campground trail is moderate with a decent step climb. Plenty of other hiking trails also. Campground itself isn't huge, which is nice. 9pm quiet hour was mostly observed - there's always one group wherever you go that thinks the rules don't apply and go for hours after quiet time. 🤷♀️ Camp hosts are amazing - friendly and very helpful. ❤️ Love that the campground has a potable water fill for rvs and a dump station.Cons (for us): Sites are very close together for the most part. There are few dog sites. There are a few really good sites that offer a bit more privacy, though. Lake is not dog friendly due to cyanoalgae bloom, which makes it toxic/ deadly to animals. So one of us had to stay behind with the dogs while the other went out. Fishing is not great due to an overabundance of catfish. Mostly cats and sunnies in there.
Sep 02, 2024 · Lady GrevilleThe park is beautiful. The trails are everywhere for hiking. The camping park is very tight. The bathrooms are extremely dirty and seriously lacking in toilet paper for when the campground is packed. It is very quiet tho for as full as it was. 50 amp service worked for only 20 mins at a time, ended up not being able to use it. Box kept over heating and tripping the breaker. This campground needs a serious electricity upgrade at the campsites.
Jul 06, 2024 · Julie BlyEnjoyed the park itself for hiking, but the organized group tent camping site leaves ALOT to be desired. Yes, it's a large site, but it's on a hillside which means very few flat spots to actually put up a tent on. The parking lot is downhill from the camping area so you have a bit of a hike to haul your gear. The bath house with flushing toilets & showers were nice (even if the lights did turn off on you if you stood still too long).
Sep 08, 2024 · Dawn SheenWe were expecting some rain but nonetheless had already scheduled our getaway. Lo and behold, the weather pattern worked us in and we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. While exploring, we came across an angler who had, on his stringer, a nice 10" or better Rainbow Trout. I left my kayak and fishing gear at home though because I needed a break from work and wanted to spend time with my Wife and bestest friend.
May 17, 2022 · Galan FinkWonderful campground with plenty of shade!!! None of the sites have water hook up, but many have 30 and 50 amp service. Most of the spots are on the smaller size, with lots of trees and shade. The campground road is paved but the driveways are not. Parking for the camper was tight but the spot was fairly level. Almost filled to capacity on the weekend, but you really don’t feel it or even hear it. Lots of families and everyone seemed to be enjoying the campground. Each loop only has one bathhouse, not very up to date, but showers worked well (plenty of hot water) and very centralized location. A great place to stay and relax or stay and enjoy the pool or large lake. Two negative comments: the entrance to the campground has a sign which reads, “ campground amphitheater”. What the sign SHOULD read is “campground AND amphitheater”, as we mistook that and missed the turn. Other negative is we did NOT need to stop in at the camp office to register as we were told. Instead, we could have just driven into our spot and set up.
