Glover Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking "camping near me" in the vicinity of Kooskia, Idaho, Glover Campground, situated on Selway Rd, Kooskia, ID 83539, USA, presents a camping option within the expansive wilderness of Idaho. The campground can be contacted at (208) 926-4258 or +1 208-926-4258.
Based on available feedback from individuals who have experienced Glover Campground, it is important for local users to have a balanced understanding of its environment, services, and features. Some reviewers have noted that the campground appears to be in need of maintenance and upkeep, possibly due to broader funding challenges affecting the Forest Service. This observation suggests that while the natural setting may be appealing, the developed facilities might show signs of wear and tear.
The campground offers a mix of campsite configurations. One notable feature mentioned is a larger, more open campsite. In addition to this, there are several smaller campsites, some of which are wooded, offering varying degrees of shade and privacy. However, a significant point raised by a reviewer is the lack of level ground on many of these smaller sites, which could pose a challenge for pitching larger tents or ensuring a comfortable sleeping arrangement. Local tent campers with larger setups should be particularly mindful of this aspect.
The availability of essential campsite amenities appears to be somewhat inconsistent across the campground. While some sites are equipped with picnic tables, others may lack fire rings, and vice versa. There is also mention of a solitary, seemingly misplaced picnic table situated in a weedy area near the larger campsite. This suggests that local users might need to be prepared for potentially uneven amenity distribution among the different sites.
The location of the toilet facilities is another factor that local campers should consider. According to one review, the pit toilet is situated a considerable distance from all the campsites and is located uphill on a steep incline. This could be an important consideration for individuals with mobility issues or those camping with young children. Interestingly, a fire ring is noted to be located near the toilet facility, an unusual pairing that might be worth noting.
The condition of the existing infrastructure seems to vary. Some picnic tables are reported to be newer, plastic-topped models, while at least one wooden table was described as severely dry-rotted. This suggests a mixed state of repair within the campground, and local users might want to be prepared for potentially less-than-ideal conditions at their chosen campsite.
On a more positive note, one reviewer specifically mentioned that the pit toilet was clean and that US Forest Service personnel were observed maintaining it during their visit. This indicates that some level of essential maintenance is being carried out, which is a positive aspect for the overall sanitation of the campground.
Interestingly, one reviewer who described the campground as "outstanding isolated no frills" highlighted the absence of on-site water and a dump station. However, they also helpfully pointed out that these services are available at the Fenn Ranger Station, which is located 4.6 miles up the road (Selway Rd) from the highway. This is crucial information for local RV campers or those requiring potable water during their stay at Glover Campground. The same reviewer also noted that the road beyond the seven-mile point is unpaved but remains passable for all types of vehicles, which is relevant for access considerations.
A key feature of Glover Campground, as highlighted by one reviewer, is its isolated nature, offering a sense of seclusion and immersion in the natural environment. This could be particularly appealing to local campers seeking a more remote and quiet "camping near me" experience away from more developed and potentially crowded campgrounds. The proximity to great fishing opportunities, although not specified in detail, is another potential draw for anglers in the local community.
The fact that several vehicles per day were observed driving through the campground without choosing to stay suggests that some potential visitors may also find the campground to be less than ideal, possibly due to the conditions mentioned earlier. This observation underscores the importance for local users to consider the reported shortcomings before making their decision.
Regarding promotional information, the provided data does not include any specific details about discounts or special offers at Glover Campground. As it is a Forest Service campground, fees typically apply, and it would be advisable for local users to check the official recreation.gov website or contact the Forest Service directly for the most up-to-date information on camping fees and any potential seasonal passes or discounts that might be available.
In summary, Glover Campground near Kooskia, Idaho, offers an isolated camping experience with access to potential fishing opportunities. However, local users considering this "camping near me" option should be aware of the reported need for maintenance, the uneven terrain of some campsites, the potentially inconsistent distribution of amenities, the distant and uphill location of the toilet, and the lack of on-site water and a dump station (available nearby at the Fenn Ranger Station). While the natural isolation might be appealing to some, the overall condition and limited facilities suggest a more "no frills" experience that may not suit all campers. It is recommended that local users weigh these factors carefully based on their individual needs and preferences for a camping trip.

Glover Campground Reviews
I understand that the Forest Service has been underfunded for years and I'm sure the repairs to the Selway Rd are taking a big chunk of the local area budget but this campground is in dire need of some TLC.There is one large campsite mostly out in the open where I pitched camp. There are also several small ones, some wooded, but they have very little level ground - so little I didn't try to pitch my 10x10' cabin tent on any of them. Some sites have tables but not fire rings and vice versa. There is a random table sitting in the weeds next to the big site. The toilet is located pretty far away from all the campsites and up a steep hill. For some reason, there is a fire ring next to it, so there's that. Some of the tables are the newer plastic-topped ones but the table at my site is wooden severely dry rotted. The toilet was clean and I did see USFS personnel tending to it while I was there. Over the course of my 4 day stay, several vehicles per day drove around looking for a place to camp. None actually did so, so I don't think I'm alone in thinking this campground is sub par.
Aug 28, 2023 · Kevin BrannonOutstanding isolated no frills campground. Pit toilets only. Water and dump station are available at the Fenn Ranger Station along the road heading up river 4.6 miles after leaving the highway. Great fishing. Road is unpaved after the seven mile point but passable for all vehicles.
