Adding a touch of insider knowledge, one camper shared a delightful secret about a "saddle rock" located just off the beach in the river. This natural feature provides a unique and tranquil spot for adults to sit and soak in the river, with the water reaching chest height in August. The gentle current ensures a comfortable and safe experience, making it a favorite "wilderness soaking-in place" within the entire campground. This hidden gem adds an element of discovery and unique enjoyment for those who venture into the river.
As a small state park, Apgar Campground benefits from its intimate setting and direct access to the Lochsa River. This proximity to the water is a major draw, offering opportunities for various recreational activities such as wading, fishing (though not explicitly mentioned, riverside locations often allow it), and simply enjoying the scenic beauty of the flowing river. The availability of "great water access" is a significant advantage for campers looking to cool off or engage in water-related pastimes.
The majority of the campsites at Apgar Campground are shaded, providing welcome relief during warmer months and creating a cooler, more comfortable environment for campers. This natural shade enhances the overall camping experience, making it more enjoyable to relax and spend time outdoors. Furthermore, the campground offers essential amenities, including fresh water availability, toilets, and a dumpster, which are typically available from mid-May until September. This seasonal availability of certain amenities is important for planning your trip accordingly.
Each campsite at Apgar Campground is equipped with picnic tables and fire rings with BBQ grills. These standard amenities enhance the camping experience by providing designated areas for eating and cooking, making it easier and more convenient to enjoy meals outdoors. The presence of fire rings also allows for campfires (subject to local regulations), adding to the traditional camping ambiance and providing warmth on cooler evenings.
Apgar Campground is particularly well-suited for tent camping, offering a variety of scenic and comfortable spots to pitch a tent. While smaller RVs (under 25 feet) can also be accommodated, maneuvering larger vehicles might pose a challenge due to turning limitations. Apgar Campground Reviews
Well spoken about with accurate results in the other 5 stars. Vault toilets were unusually low odor and clean and well kept. Almost exactly half way for us and our Montana friend from Missoula. Perfect meeting place and we'll return year after year if it continues to be so well maintained.Inside hint. There's a saddle rock just out from the beach that an adult can sit on in the river, chest high in August and comfortably not get swept downstream. My favorite wilderness soaking-in place of the whole campground.
Aug 24, 2020 · Andrew HerresThis is a small state park, next to the Lachsa (?spelling) river. Great water access, most spots are shaded. Fresh water available, toilets available and dumpster available from mid May till September. Picnic tables and fire rings with BBQ at every spot, great tent camping and smaller RVs, under 25 ft, or turning becomes a problem.
Aug 16, 2020 · Petra ZabyGreat basic U.S.F.S. Campground on the Lochsa River
Oct 02, 2019 · Tom CollierThis is a small, not manned, site with bathrooms and trash but no other facilities. About 20 spaces that are self-serve, nice back in spaces suitable for midsize or smaller units + tent sites. Tree coverage is real nice spaces have lots of woods between each other it only cost $14 for the night. Half that if you have a pass. Right by the river, can't go wrong
Aug 01, 2019 · Richard FerrisGreat place but people may try and steal your spot by saying they have reservations. But there are no reservations.
