Group Camp Introduce
For local residents seeking an affordable "camping near me" experience with family-friendly amenities and access to the beautiful Harrison Bay, Group Camp at Harrison Bay State Park, located at 8411 Harrison Bay Rd, Harrison, TN 37341, USA, offers a budget-friendly option. Situated within a Tennessee State Park, the campground provides lovely, shady campsites and a range of activities suitable for families with children. The positive aspects highlighted by recent visitors include good facilities for families, the availability of various activities for kids, and the affordability of tent sites, priced at approximately $11. The presence of a playground, noted as a unique feature for a group camp, further enhances its appeal for families. Additionally, the campground benefits from its location within Harrison Bay State Park, offering access to the lake and other park amenities.
The environment surrounding Group Camp is within the scenic Harrison Bay State Park, known for its beautiful location along the shores of Harrison Bay. This provides campers with opportunities for lake-related activities, although specific details about direct lake access from the Group Camp area are not provided in the reviews. The presence of "lovely shady campsites" suggests a pleasant camping environment with natural shade, particularly appreciated during warmer months. The park itself likely offers a variety of natural landscapes to explore. However, it's important to note a reviewer's observation about litter along the lake shoreline and in some campsites, indicating a potential issue with upkeep in certain areas.
Group Camp offers facilities that cater to families, including the notable addition of a playground, which is a significant feature, especially for those camping with young children. The availability of "good facilities for families" suggests that the campground is designed to accommodate the needs of families, although specific details about these facilities (beyond the playground) are not elaborated upon in the provided review. The mention of bathroom facilities in the "D area" indicates the presence of such amenities, but a significant concern raised is their state of cleanliness and repair. According to a reviewer, the bathroom in the D area was in need of serious TLC, was not cleaned for at least four days during their stay, lacked locks on doors, and was considered too small for the number of sites it served. It's mentioned that other areas might have newer amenities, suggesting a potential disparity in the condition of facilities across the campground. While Wi-Fi is advertised, a reviewer reported that it was not working during their visit, so reliance on it is not recommended. However, the area reportedly has plenty of cell phone service.
A key feature of Group Camp is its affordability, with tent sites mentioned at a very reasonable price of around $11. This makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers and local campers looking for an inexpensive place to set up camp. The presence of activities for kids is another significant feature, making it a family-friendly destination. The unique inclusion of a playground at a group camp is also noteworthy. However, the reported lack of upkeep in certain areas, particularly the bathrooms in the D area and the litter along the shoreline and some campsites, is a point of concern. The potential for varying conditions across different camping areas within Group Camp should be considered. The availability of cabins with actual mattresses is also mentioned, although their condition is described as potentially old and in need of love.
While specific promotional information is not provided in the reviews, the affordability of tent camping ($11) can be considered a significant draw for budget-minded campers. The appeal to families due to the children's activities and the playground is another potential promotional point. However, the negative feedback regarding the cleanliness and condition of some facilities, particularly the bathrooms, and the littering issue should also be taken into account. Potential campers might want to inquire about the specific area they will be staying in and the current condition of the amenities in that section when making a reservation. The phone numbers provided, (423) 344-7966 and +1 423-344-7966, offer a direct way to seek more information and make inquiries.
The location of Group Camp within Harrison Bay State Park near Harrison, Tennessee, provides access to the natural beauty of the area and the bay itself. In summary, Group Camp at Harrison Bay State Park offers an affordable camping option with family-friendly features like activities for kids and a playground, along with the natural appeal of its location near Harrison Bay. However, potential campers should be aware of reported issues with the cleanliness and condition of some facilities, particularly the bathrooms in the D area, and the presence of litter in certain areas of the park. Group Camp Reviews
There are good points, and there are bad.Good facilities for families and lovely shady campsites. There's lots of activities for the kids which is great to see.But the place was disappointingly unkept.I stayed in D area and the bathroom was in need of serious tlc. I didn't see anyone clean it in 4 days, and it's in terrible shape. No locks on doors, dirty, and really small for the number of sites in D. Maybe other areas seem to have new amenities so maybe it's a future improvement? The lake shoreline was littered, as were some campsites. For a state park, i thought it would be much better kept. I don't think funding is an issue because the place was packed! Although there is Wi-Fi, it didn't work while we were there, so don't rely on it. Plenty of cell phone service anyway.Other than that, there's lots to do in the park and it's a cheap place to set up a tent ($11).
Oct 15, 2016 · Jason TownsendYou can find all my comments at the main park. Don't let the photo fool you. Cabins might be old and need love, but they have actual mattresses! Personally it's also the first group camp I have been to that had a playground!
May 01, 2024 · Lokis OwnHad a good time camping with my wife and dog, but not the best camping experience I’ve had.Campground was easy to navigate and check-in was painless. There was no firewood available to purchase but dry logs were scattered along our campsite.Bathrooms were filthy; Not sure if on the weekends they are not maintained.Tent campsites were a bit too close in my opinion, but everyone was friendly. This campground is great if you have kids however our experience was less than enjoyable with kids screaming early in the morning before quiet hours.Overall, camping at this state park is okay. Enjoy a day on the water and find somewhere else to stay if possible.

Jun 22, 2023 · Lisa DunnWe had a great time camping this week at Harrison Bay State Park! The sunrise was beautiful and the sunset as well! The fishing was great! Our only complaint was the banks need a lot of weedeating and the pool access should be free to campers. We only paid 1 out of 5 days to swim because the stamps they use for reentry wash off very easily and they kept our receipt. Everything was clean, bathrooms, pool area, play areas. The only other thing you should be prepared for is the spots are very tight. Our camper is only 25 ft and getting in and out was tough! We stayed at c39 and it was nice and shady and close to bath house! Wi-Fi is advertised but we couldnt ever get on. I would like to see a shower curtain added in the bathroom, just would make it look better and also make you feel better while in the shower that is for some reason the door is opened you aren't going to shine for the world to see! We saw the bathrooms cleaned several times so that wasnt ever an issue like other reviews ive read. Also its a state park so if you forget (like us) that helmets are required then no worries the A frame house has some for you to borrow! We cant wait to return!
