Harstad County Park Introduce
Hey local outdoor enthusiasts! Are you on the lookout for a serene camping spot or convenient access to the Eau Claire River right here in Wisconsin? For those searching under the category "camping near me," Harstad County Park, located at S6455 Co Rd HHH in Augusta, offers a unique blend of peaceful camping and opportunities for water-based adventures. Let's explore what makes Harstad County Park a noteworthy destination for local users.
Embrace the Peace and Natural Beauty
Harstad County Park provides a tranquil environment for those seeking a quiet escape into nature. Based on local feedback, the park is described as "very peaceful," suggesting a setting where you can truly unwind and enjoy the natural surroundings. While specific details about the landscape require further online exploration (as no detailed description was provided), county parks in Wisconsin often feature a blend of wooded areas, open spaces, and proximity to water bodies. You can likely expect a serene atmosphere, ideal for those looking to disconnect from the noise of everyday life. Imagine setting up camp amidst the sounds of nature and enjoying the stillness of the Wisconsin countryside. The park's natural beauty likely offers opportunities for wildlife viewing and simply enjoying the outdoors.
Limited Amenities and Self-Registration
It's important for local campers to be aware of the amenities available at Harstad County Park. Based on recent reviews, the park currently does not offer showers, which is a factor to consider when planning your stay. Additionally, one reviewer mentioned the absence of a park map. However, the park operates on a self-registration system, which offers a degree of flexibility as campsites cannot be booked ahead of time. This means that availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. While this system provides spontaneity, it also suggests that arriving earlier, especially during peak seasons, might be advisable to secure a campsite. Be prepared to handle the registration process upon arrival, likely involving filling out a form and depositing payment at a designated location.
Direct Access to the Eau Claire River for Paddlers
A significant feature of Harstad County Park is its direct access to the Eau Claire River, making it a "decent access point for paddling." This is a major draw for kayakers and canoeists in the local area. However, it's important to note the specifics of this access. According to a review, reaching the water requires a "substantial carry or drag" of your watercraft to a set of stairs with a boat slide. This suggests that while access is available, it might require some physical effort to get your equipment to and from the river. There is also a pit toilet located near the landing for convenience. If you're a local paddling enthusiast looking for a launch point on the Eau Claire River, Harstad County Park provides this opportunity, but be prepared for the carry to the water.
Considerations for Parking
For those planning to utilize the river access for paddling and leaving vehicles, it's important to be aware of the parking situation. The review indicates that "cars left here will need to pay for parking if not already paying for camping at the park." This implies that there are parking fees associated with using the river access, separate from any camping fees. If you are camping at the park, parking for your camping needs is likely included. However, if you are only using the park as a launch point for paddling, be prepared to pay for parking your vehicle. It would be beneficial to check for posted parking rates and regulations upon arrival.

Wish they had showers and a map of the park, but otherwise it's perfect. Very peaceful, and it's self-registration so it can't be booked a head of time!

Feb 26, 2025 · Jared WoldGreat park if you're looking for a simple time down by the river, at the playground/picnic area, or chilling at your campsite. Good kayaking and a beautiful view!
Mar 14, 2025 · C GordonSolo bike trip, over 1200 miles total. Stopped for the night. No fire wood on sight, I had to ride my bike into town and carry fire wood back between my legs and on the gas tank of my bike. Very quiet and minimalist sites. But when you're looking for a nice country wooded campsite with water near by, this place is great. Have always liked camping here.
Aug 25, 2021 · Steven SmithThis place has some of the biggest sites in wisconsin. Every site has a bathroom that is accessible by a very short walk. The E.C. river is also a short walk from the sites. There's a spring fed creek that flows into the river here creating one of the deepest holes on the river. Great place for muskie and walley. The spring fed creek is usually no deeper than knee deep. There's a huge pavilion area with a semi playground for children and just above that through a trail uphill there's a backfield with bleachers.
