Comfort Cove Campground Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience that offers a blend of essential amenities, natural beauty, and exceptional service? Look no further than Comfort Cove Campground, located in Independence, Kansas. This campground appears to be a noteworthy destination for both short visits and potentially extended stays, offering a range of features that cater to various camping preferences.
Situated in Independence, KS 67301, USA, Comfort Cove Campground benefits from its location within Kansas, a state known for its scenic landscapes and outdoor recreational opportunities. While the specific immediate environment isn't detailed extensively, one review mentions "great views" and "well-maintained, marked, and a little challenging" hiking trails, suggesting a setting with natural beauty and opportunities for exploration on foot. The presence of full hookups also indicates a level of convenience for RV travelers.
Based on the provided customer reviews, Comfort Cove Campground offers a mix of positive attributes and some unique characteristics. One reviewer highlighted the full hookups available at the site, noting that the "sewer drop was non-threaded, water pressure okay and 50 amp service relatively steady." This is crucial information for RV owners, indicating that essential utilities are provided and generally reliable. The reviewer also mentioned that the site was "reasonably level and deep enough" for their rig, which speaks to the practicality and accommodation of the campsites.
A notable point raised in one review concerns the Kansas State Park fee structure, which requires both a campsite fee and a vehicle day use fee. The reviewer found the application of this fee to motorized RVs, even when stationary and connected to utilities, to be "strange" compared to the treatment of towable RVs like fifth wheels. Local users should be aware of this potential additional daily cost of $5 per motorized RV, in addition to the campsite fee and any fees for towed vehicles.
Another observation from a reviewer was the apparent allowance of "extended stays" at Comfort Cove, with the presence of "full timers all around us with golf carts and cluttered yards." This deviates from the 10 to 14-day limits often found in other state parks. For local users seeking a longer-term "camping near me" option, or those who don't mind a more settled community feel within the campground, this could be a relevant factor.
On the positive side, one reviewer enthusiastically described "Everything about this campground" as "Top Notch." They specifically praised "Cathy," the check-in staff member, for her "smile, professionalism, wit and charm," and "Jacob," the Park Ranger/manager, as "one of the nicest guys." The reviewer also noted that "All the employees were really friendly and constantly busy," indicating a well-managed and welcoming atmosphere.
Further positive aspects mentioned include the "great views," the "very well maintained, marked and a little challenging" hiking trails, and clean campsites. The reviewer also appreciated the $23 site fee and the provision of amenities, especially for coffee drinkers, and the fact that "they even had wood supplied for the campfire!!!" These details paint a picture of a campground that values its guests and provides a pleasant camping experience.
Based on these reviews, the services and features of Comfort Cove Campground likely include:
- Full hookups (sewer, water, 50 amp electrical service).
- Reasonably level and deep campsites suitable for RVs.
- Well-maintained and marked hiking trails with scenic views.
- Potentially extended stay options.
- Friendly and helpful staff.
- Clean campsites.
- Campfire wood provided.
The environment appears to be relatively quiet and clean, with "moderate traffic" within the park.

The availability of full hookups makes it particularly appealing for RVers, while the hiking trails and pleasant atmosphere cater to other camping enthusiasts.

Comfort Cove Campground Reviews
The Kansas State Park fees are strange compared to other state parks. You need to pay your campsite fee and then a vehicle day use fee. What’s different is if your RV has an engine, it needs its own vehicle fee even though it’s up on jacks and connected to a pedestal just like a 5th wheel that requires no fee. $5 a day on top of the campsite fee and on top of the toad’s fee simply because it can move on its own. Strange. We had full hookups and that was all okay. The sewer drop was non-threaded, water pressure okay and 50 amp service relatively steady. The site was reasonably level and deep enough for our rig. Unlike other state parks, this one seemingly allows extended stays. We had full timers all around us with golf carts and cluttered yards. Most state parks have 10 to 14 day limits, Comfort Cove seems to allow exceptions. Not a big deal, just a deviation from the norm. The park is relatively quiet with moderate traffic and decently clean.
