For local users browsing platforms under the category "camping near me," Walter Jonson Park RV Campground presents itself as an accessible and functional choice. While it may not boast an extensive list of luxurious amenities, it delivers on the essentials that many campers prioritize, such as level parking areas, electric hookups, and access to a dump station and showers. Its location within Coffeyville makes it easily reachable for residents and those passing through the area.
Based on feedback from fellow campers, the environment at Walter Jonson Park RV Campground is described as neat and relatively quiet. One reviewer noted the charming "honor system," suggesting a relaxed and trusting atmosphere. While the campground may not be located in a secluded wilderness, it offers a practical base for exploring the local area or simply resting during a journey. For those traveling along historic Route 66, its location has proven to be a convenient stop.
In terms of services and features, Walter Jonson Park RV Campground provides some key amenities that enhance the camping experience. Electric hookups are available, which is particularly valuable for RV owners needing power for appliances and comfort during their stay. The presence of a dump station is another significant advantage for RVers looking to maintain their sanitation systems. Showers are also available for campers who appreciate the convenience of washing facilities on-site. It's worth noting, as mentioned by a reviewer, that the showers operate with a push-button system that requires reactivation every few minutes and that the water temperature, while not hot, is adequately warm.
One of the standout features of Walter Jonson Park RV Campground, especially for budget-conscious travelers and locals, is its affordability. At a reported rate of $15 for the "woods campground" located on Hargis & 8th, it presents a reasonably priced option compared to some other campgrounds, especially considering the availability of showers and electric hookups. For those needing a longer-term solution, the weekly and monthly rates are also mentioned as being quite reasonable, making it an attractive option for extended stays in the Coffeyville area, particularly during the winter months when other campgrounds with similar amenities might be closed.
It is important for prospective visitors to be aware of some practical details. While two PDFs with important information are mentioned, a reviewer pointed out that these documents did not specify the location of the campgrounds and restrooms or the check-out time. This highlights the potential need for clearer on-site signage or communication. The "woods campground," priced at $15, is specifically located on Hargis & 8th, which is separate from the campground potentially located on Wood St. The showers are situated behind the dump station, also on Hargis. Despite some initial challenges in obtaining this information, the reviewer found the layout to be acceptable.
For local users seeking a no-fuss camping option with essential amenities, Walter Jonson Park RV Campground delivers. Its level parking areas ensure a stable setup for RVs, and the availability of electric hookups, showers, and a dump station caters to the fundamental needs of many campers. The affordable pricing structure, especially for weekly and monthly stays, makes it a compelling choice for those seeking a budget-friendly camping solution in the Coffeyville area.
In summary, Walter Jonson Park RV Campground offers local users and travelers a practical and affordable camping experience in Coffeyville, Kansas. Its key features include level parking, electric hookups, a dump station, and showers. While some information regarding the campground layout and check-out procedures might require on-site clarification, the overall sentiment from users highlights its convenience, affordability, and suitability for those seeking essential amenities without the frills. Walter Jonson Park RV Campground Reviews
Though there are 2 pdfs you can download with important information, neither of them mention where the campgrounds & restrooms are or what the check out time is. Repeated calls were not answered, but I managed to figure it out. The woods campground ( which is the $15 campground) is not the campground on Wood St. The $15 campground is on Hargis & 8th. The showers are behind the dump station, which is also on Hargis. Push button showers ( the shower goes off every 3- 5 minutes - no big deal. You just have to push the button again ) they weren't hot but they were warm enough. Not the best layout but also not the worst.$15 seems a bit high for a city park campground but if you are needing a place with showers or electric it is one of the only places that stays open with those amenities in the winter. Nice level parking areas and plenty of sites. Though I didn't need to stay for more than a night, the weekly and monthly rates seem pretty reasonable.
Feb 10, 2025 · Rebecca LentsWe are from NY and were doing Rt 66 and on our return trip, we were looking for a place to dump our black water. We googled it and came across this little gem of a park! This was on the 29th of September and there were only a scattered few other souls in residence. Some people require fancy amenities to occupy their time. Not us. Everything we needed was right there, and hardly any distractions! The honor system was charming and the place was neat as a pin. We only wish there was some kind of list somewhere of other places like this , if they even exist, so we could use them exclusively when we travel. Thank you; we will be back.
Oct 01, 2021 · Amy WardaGrounds well kept, rent rate was good. Added feature just a few hundred feet ( within walking distance) junior college boys baseball field is located. Park area is available for different activities. Early August city/county hold the annual fair and rodeo. For additional events contact the Coffeyville Chamber .
Nov 09, 2020 · Michael LeathersGreat park; can't beat the price. Wonderful water pressure! Only complaint is that some sites could be longer for.longer rigs. No room to park our pickup after unhooking; didn't want to park on grass.
Sep 24, 2022 · Ronald TrentLots of mosquitoes! Nothing fancy, near fairground. Has full hookups. We paid $15.00 per night.
