Embrace the Natural Beauty of Copan Lake at No Cost
The primary draw of Osage Plains Park Campground is its location on Copan Lake in northeastern Oklahoma, offering campers the chance to enjoy the beauty of this large reservoir without any camping fees. The reviews consistently highlight the "pretty awesome" lake views, suggesting a picturesque setting that enhances the overall camping experience. Being situated on Copan Lake provides opportunities to appreciate the expansive waters and the surrounding natural landscape. While the reviews note that the campground has "definitely seen better days," the fundamental appeal of free access to a scenic location remains a significant advantage for budget-conscious local users.

The presence of "several camping spots" indicates that while it might not be a large, developed campground, there are multiple areas available for setting up camp. The ability to accommodate various types of camping setups, including "good size motorhome plus RV any size van" and tents, makes it a versatile option for different preferences and equipment. The presence of two boat landings further emphasizes the connection to Copan Lake and the opportunities for boating activities, primarily for fishing boats according to one review.
Basic Services and Self-Sufficient Camping
It is crucial for local users considering Osage Plains Park Campground to understand the limited services and amenities available, as highlighted in the customer reviews:
- Free Camping: The most significant service is the fact that camping is free of charge, with a 14-day limit for stays.
- Level Campsites: Approximately six campsites are mentioned as being level, which is important for comfortable setup of tents and RVs.
- Tables and Benches: Most of the level campsites are equipped with a table, and some even have attached benches, providing a convenient area for dining and other activities.
- Fire Rings: Each camping spot is reported to have a fire ring, allowing for campfires and outdoor cooking.
- Boat Landings: The presence of two boat landings provides easy access to Copan Lake for boating activities, primarily for fishing boats.
- Ranger Presence: Frequent patrols by rangers contribute to a sense of safety within the campground.
- Army Corps of Engineers Management: The campground is managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, who are available to answer questions and provide assistance.
However, the reviews also explicitly state the absence of several key amenities:
- No Bathrooms: Campers should be aware that there are no restroom facilities available at Osage Plains Park Campground.
- No Water: There is no potable water source provided at the campground, so campers must bring their own supply.
- No Electricity: Electrical hookups are not available for RVs or other electrical needs.
- No RV Dump: There is no RV dump station for the proper disposal of wastewater.
Additionally, one review mentions a significant rule regarding firewood: campers can only burn trees that are already on the ground; cutting down trees is strictly prohibited. This emphasizes the primitive nature of the camping experience and the need for campers to be self-sufficient.

Important Considerations and Potential Temporary Closure
Local users considering Osage Plains Park Campground should be aware of some important points raised in the reviews:
- Trash and Glass: One reviewer noted the presence of "a lot of trash and glass," indicating that the cleanliness of the campground might be an issue. Campers should exercise caution and consider bringing trash bags to help keep their campsite clean.
- Potential Temporary Closure: A more concerning point is the information from a recent review stating that the campground might face temporary closure due to issues with "young drivers coming here and drifting and going way to fast for this gravel road." The reviewer suggests that if the rangers can address this issue with the help of the community, the campground might remain open. Local users should be aware that the availability of Osage Plains Park Campground could be subject to change based on these local concerns. Contacting the Army Corps of Engineers at the provided phone numbers might offer updates on the status of the campground.
Limited Promotional Information and Contact Details

Osage Plains Park Campground Reviews
Osage Plains Park. A Free campground on Copan Lake in Northeast Oklahoma. This campground has definitely seen better days, but it's open and free all year and it's easy to get to. There are about 6 campsites that are level and most have a table .. some even have benches that go with the table. The view is pretty awesome and you can stay 14 days for free. There is a lot of trash and glass but I would stay again. Rangers drive through frequently and it felt pretty safe.
Feb 08, 2025 · Rebecca LentsThis is kinda in-between small and big there's several camping spots and each one has a fire ring some spots could handle a good size motorhom plus RV any size van and if you like to camp with a tent you can do that here there's 2 boat landings the only types of boats I have seen here are mainly fishing boats I don't think they allow swimming but it's winter time here. It's a 14 day limit to stay here there's no bathrooms and no water plus it's free camping oh yeah and no electricity you can burn any trees that are already on the ground cutting down trees is definitely not allowed. The army corps of engineers are in charge and they are happy to help anyone out with getting questions answered. We'll it's summer now and I'm still in the area I got back here a day ago and I was told that they might shut this place down do to young drivers coming here and drifting and going way to fast for this gravel road if the rangers can get that stopped then they will be able to keep it open but they will be needing help with that.
Jun 22, 2023 · future hereThis primitive area is secluded and quiet. There are two shallow boat ramps & fishing off of the bluffs are loads of fun.
