Sugarloaf Campground II

Campground Rd, Twin Mountain, NH 03595, USA

4.0
This is a wonderful and quiet campground. There is no power but there is water at various places around the campground loop. There are no showers but there are pit bathrooms, no water in the bathrooms. It’s pretty basic but if you are looking for some peace and quiet, this is the place. It is also walking distance to the “Middle Sugarloaf” trail which has some of the most spectaculars views you will ever see! You almost get a 180 degree view and a great view of Mt. Washington. AT&T cell signal was very scarce and Verizon was non-existent. There is no dump station and the road up is pretty bumpy but I loved the campground. - prohomevideos

Sugarloaf Campground II Introduce

For local adventurers seeking a tranquil "camping near me" experience within the stunning White Mountain National Forest, Sugarloaf Campground II, located on Campground Rd in Twin Mountain, NH 03595, USA, presents a rustic option. You can reach them at (603) 536-6100 or their mobile number, +1 603-536-6100, for any inquiries. Based on recent customer feedback, Sugarloaf Campground II offers a unique environment characterized by its natural beauty and relative quiet, though potential changes in its atmosphere should be considered.

One recent visitor described Sugarloaf Campground II as "wonderful and quiet," emphasizing its appeal for those seeking peace and solitude in nature. This aligns with the campground's basic amenities, which include water available at various points around the campground loop. It's important to note that electrical hookups are not available at this campground, catering to a more primitive camping style. Campers should be prepared for off-grid living and bring appropriate gear for their power needs.

The bathroom facilities at Sugarloaf Campground II are described as pit toilets without running water. Similarly, shower facilities are not provided on-site. This reinforces the campground's nature as a more basic and rustic camping experience, where self-sufficiency and preparedness are key. Campers who prefer modern conveniences might find these limitations significant, while those seeking a more traditional and immersed outdoor experience might appreciate the simplicity.

A significant highlight of Sugarloaf Campground II is its proximity to the "Middle Sugarloaf" trail. According to a reviewer, this trail offers "some of the most spectacular views you will ever see!" The reward for the hike is described as an almost 180-degree panoramic vista, including a great view of the majestic Mount Washington. This immediate access to a rewarding hiking experience is a major draw for outdoor enthusiasts and makes the campground a prime location for those looking to explore the trails of the White Mountain National Forest directly from their campsite.

Connectivity at Sugarloaf Campground II appears to be limited. One visitor reported that AT&T cell signal was "very scarce," and Verizon service was "non-existent." This lack of reliable cell service can be a double-edged sword. While it might be inconvenient for those needing to stay connected, it also contributes to the feeling of being truly away from it all and immersed in nature. Campers should plan accordingly if they rely on mobile communication or internet access.

Another practical consideration mentioned by a reviewer is the absence of a dump station at the campground. This is particularly relevant for RV campers who will need to plan for waste disposal elsewhere before or after their stay. Additionally, the road leading up to the campground is described as "pretty bumpy," which might affect the journey, especially for those with larger RVs or trailers. Despite these basic conditions, the reviewer concluded by stating, "but I loved the campground," highlighting the strong appeal of its natural setting and tranquility.

However, it's crucial to consider more recent feedback regarding a potential shift in the campground's atmosphere. A long-time visitor, who has been camping at Sugarloaf Campground II for the past 26 years, noted a significant change following the retirement of the long-serving Camp Ground Hosts. This reviewer expressed concern that the "rowdy crowds" had moved in, characterized by "speeding thru the campground and load music playing" and a general "just I don't care attitude about the other campers."

This long-time camper lamented that such behavior would have been swiftly addressed by the previous hosts, who maintained a "great family and safe campground" with a firm but fair approach. The reviewer now feels unable to recommend Sugarloaf Campground II as a "safe family campground anymore" due to the perceived decline in the social environment. This feedback suggests that while the natural beauty and location remain appealing, the atmosphere might have become less conducive to a peaceful family camping experience.

This recent negative feedback serves as an important point for local users considering "camping near me" at Sugarloaf Campground II. While the campground still offers a rustic experience in a stunning natural setting with direct access to excellent hiking, potential campers should be aware of the reported changes in the social environment. It might be prudent to inquire about the current campground management and any rules or enforcement measures in place to ensure a peaceful stay for all visitors.

In summary, Sugarloaf Campground II offers a basic and rustic camping experience within the White Mountain National Forest near Twin Mountain, NH. Its key features include the availability of water (but no electrical hookups or showers), pit toilets without running water, and immediate access to the highly-rated Middle Sugarloaf Trail with its spectacular panoramic views. Campers should be prepared for limited cell service and the absence of a dump station. While past reviews praised its quiet atmosphere, more recent feedback indicates a potential shift towards a less regulated environment, which might impact the experience for those seeking a peaceful family-friendly campground. Local users interested in a primitive camping experience with exceptional hiking opportunities should consider Sugarloaf Campground II, but with an awareness of the potential for a less serene social atmosphere than in the past.
