Nauman Tentsite Introduce
Welcome to Nauman Tentsite, a tent-only camping area located on the iconic Mount Washington in New Hampshire. Situated at MOUNT WASHINGTON, NH 03589, USA, Nauman Tentsite offers a unique opportunity for local users seeking a "camping near me" experience high in the scenic White Mountains. Based on recent customer reviews, this tentsite provides beautiful views and convenient access to the services of the nearby Mizpah Hut, making it a noteworthy option for hikers and nature enthusiasts.
One of the primary draws of Nauman Tentsite is undoubtedly its stunning natural environment. As one reviewer noted, it offers "beautiful views," which is to be expected given its location on or near Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeastern United States. The panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges and valleys are likely to be a significant highlight for campers staying at this location. Imagine waking up to breathtaking sunrises and enjoying the tranquility of a mountain evening with unparalleled scenery right from your tent site. For local users who appreciate spectacular natural landscapes, Nauman Tentsite presents a compelling option.
A significant feature of Nauman Tentsite is its proximity to Mizpah Hut, a mountain hut operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC). According to a reviewer, when open, Mizpah Hut offers a "great service area for multi-day hikers." This suggests that campers at Nauman Tentsite can benefit from the facilities and services provided by the hut, which might include access to water, restrooms, and potentially even meals or shelter in emergency situations. This close proximity to a well-established hut can be particularly advantageous for hikers undertaking multi-day treks in the Presidential Range, offering a degree of convenience and support that is not typically found at more remote campsites.
Another point highlighted by a guest is that Nauman Tentsite tends to have "limited people." For those seeking a more secluded and less crowded camping experience, this could be a significant benefit. The opportunity to camp in a more intimate setting, away from the hustle and bustle of larger campgrounds, can enhance the sense of being immersed in nature and provide a more peaceful retreat. Local users who value solitude and a quieter camping environment might find Nauman Tentsite appealing.
Regarding securing a spot, one reviewer advises to "grab a tent site early if you can," indicating that the demand for these sites can be high, particularly during peak hiking seasons. However, they also noted that the caretakers "tend to make room when needed," suggesting a degree of flexibility in accommodating campers. It would be prudent for local users planning to stay at Nauman Tentsite to inquire about reservation procedures and availability, especially if traveling during popular times of the year.
While the positive aspects of Nauman Tentsite include its beautiful views, proximity to Mizpah Hut, and potentially limited crowds, it's important to address some concerns raised by another reviewer regarding the cleanliness of the facilities. This guest mentioned that "the bear boxes were dirty, the place to wash your dishes were dirty, and the outhouse was just discusting." These are significant issues that potential visitors should be aware of. The cleanliness of essential facilities like bear boxes (for safe food storage in bear country), dishwashing areas, and outhouses is crucial for a comfortable and hygienic camping experience.
The same reviewer also expressed concern that the "caretaker does not take pride in taking care of the place" and criticized the practice of "squeezing as many people as you can on a tent platform as you possibly can," stating that it is "just not fun at all!" These are serious criticisms regarding the management and maintenance of the tentsite. Overcrowding on tent platforms can detract from the camping experience, reducing privacy and comfort. A lack of pride in maintaining the cleanliness of the facilities can significantly impact the overall enjoyment and hygiene of the site.
Given these contrasting reviews, local users considering Nauman Tentsite should weigh the positive aspects of its location and views against the potential drawbacks related to cleanliness and site management. For hikers specifically looking to utilize the services of Mizpah Hut and willing to potentially overlook issues with cleanliness, Nauman Tentsite might still be a viable option. However, those who prioritize cleanliness and a more spacious and well-maintained camping environment might want to consider alternative options in the Mount Washington area.
As a listing in the "camping near me" category, Nauman Tentsite offers a unique high-altitude tent camping experience. The allure of camping on or near Mount Washington, with its spectacular views and access to hiking trails, is undeniable. The proximity to Mizpah Hut provides a level of support that can be particularly valuable for long-distance hikers. However, the reported issues with the cleanliness of facilities and potential overcrowding are factors that local users should take into serious consideration when planning their trip.
Prospective campers might benefit from seeking more recent reviews or information from hiking forums or the Appalachian Mountain Club to get a more up-to-date understanding of the current conditions at Nauman Tentsite. Understanding the current state of cleanliness and site management will help local users make an informed decision about whether this tentsite meets their expectations for a "camping near me" experience on Mount Washington.
In conclusion, Nauman Tentsite offers a tent camping experience in a remarkable location on Mount Washington, providing beautiful views and convenient access to Mizpah Hut for hikers. The potential for limited crowds can also be appealing to those seeking a quieter natural setting. However, concerns raised by reviewers regarding the cleanliness of facilities and potential overcrowding are significant drawbacks that should not be ignored. Local users interested in camping at Nauman Tentsite should carefully consider these factors and perhaps seek additional, more recent information to ensure it aligns with their desired camping experience. The unique location and potential benefits for hikers make it a noteworthy option within the "camping near me" category, but awareness of the reported issues is crucial.

Nauman Tentsite Reviews
I’ve stayed here twice and certainly one of the nicer places to camp in the area. Beautiful views. Limited people and when it’s open Mizpah hut offers a great service area for multi-day hikers. Grab a tent site early if you can, though they tend to make room when needed.
Sep 20, 2020 · Alex NEFFIt was nice to be near Mizpah Hut, and we got one of the better tent platforms, but the bear boxes were dirty, the place to wash your dishes were dirty, and the outhouse was just discusting. Caretaker does not take pride in taking care of the place, and squeezing as many people as you can on a tent platform as you possibly can, is just not fun at all!
Nov 19, 2021 · niKols VidenWe stayed at Nauman tent site on the 4th night of our trip through the white Mountains. The tent sites are located very close to the Hut and fresh water. The tent site had it's own caretaker who was kind and helpful. Only reason I have 4 stars is because a storm recently destroyed a lot of trees in the tent site area and they are still in the process of cleaning iit up. The lack of trees and proximity to the hut kind of took away a little privacy. I would still recommend stayting here.

Oct 23, 2017 · Nick MoloneyHad the dump to myself, very peaceful. And the privy is more than adequate.
