Been to this campground a handful of times. New owners are fine. A little odd, but more pleasant than the jerk who used to own the place. Clean sites. We stayed close to the river. Other campers were respectful. The dogs had a great time as well. Not much to complain about when you’re camping in the Whites. Wood is expensive ($10 a bundle) but drier than the wood we purchased off site. - Evan Moore

Crawford Notch Campground Introduce

Looking for a "camping near me" experience that immerses you in the beauty of the White Mountains? Crawford Notch Campground, located at 1138 US-302 in Hart's Location, New Hampshire, offers a picturesque setting within the stunning White Mountain National Forest. Based on recent customer feedback, this campground provides clean sites and a generally pleasant atmosphere, making it a noteworthy option for local camping enthusiasts.

One repeat visitor mentioned having been to Crawford Notch Campground "a handful of times," indicating a level of satisfaction that encourages return visits. They noted the presence of new owners, describing them as "fine" and "more pleasant than the jerk who used to own the place," suggesting a positive change in management that enhances the overall experience. The reviewer also highlighted the "clean sites," a fundamental aspect of any enjoyable camping trip. Their stay was close to the river, which likely added to the scenic and auditory appeal. They also appreciated that "other campers were respectful," contributing to a peaceful environment. For those who bring their furry companions, it's good to know that "the dogs had a great time as well," suggesting a pet-friendly atmosphere. The reviewer concluded that there wasn't "much to complain about when you’re camping in the Whites," underscoring the inherent beauty of the location.

Regarding supplies, the reviewer noted that firewood was available on-site but was "expensive ($10 a bundle)." However, they also pointed out that it was "drier than the wood we purchased off site," implying a trade-off between cost and quality/convenience. This information is helpful for planning purposes, allowing campers to decide whether to bring their own wood or purchase it at the campground.

Another visitor who stayed at the end of September found the campground to be uncrowded, which can be a significant advantage for those seeking a quieter experience. They praised the "great location in beautiful National Forest" and the "beautiful colours" of the fall foliage, indicating that the campground's setting offers significant natural beauty, particularly during seasonal changes. The "young staff who greeted us was nice and polite," contributing to a positive first impression.

This reviewer stayed in an RV site with electricity and water hookups, describing it as "clean and beautiful." However, they also noted a potential drawback: like all the RV sites, their site was located "right along the very noisy highway." They did mention that the noise level decreased "after 8pm and until 6am," providing a quieter period overnight. For RV campers, the convenience of hookups might outweigh the proximity to the highway, but it's something to be aware of, especially for those sensitive to noise during the day.

On the positive side, the washrooms were reported to be "very clean," which is an important factor for camper comfort and hygiene. However, this reviewer also expressed a concern about safety, stating they "felt a bit unsafe in the park as there did not seem to be any kind of security staff." This is a point that potential visitors might want to consider, although it's unclear if this was an isolated observation or a consistent aspect of the campground.

Combining these insights, Crawford Notch Campground offers a compelling "camping near me" option for those looking to explore the White Mountain National Forest. Its clean campsites, proximity to the river for some, and the generally pleasant demeanor of the new owners are positive aspects. The beautiful natural surroundings, especially the fall colors, enhance the camping experience. RVers will appreciate the availability of sites with electricity and water, though they should be prepared for potential highway noise during the day. The cleanliness of the washrooms is a definite plus. However, the cost of firewood on-site is higher, and one visitor noted a perceived lack of security staff.

For local users seeking a basecamp for hiking, exploring Crawford Notch, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the White Mountains, this campground's location within the National Forest is a significant advantage. The positive feedback regarding the cleanliness of the sites and the pleasantness of the staff under new ownership suggests an improved camping environment. While the highway noise for RV sites might be a concern for some, the quieter periods at night could mitigate this. The availability of firewood on-site, despite the cost, offers convenience.

To make an informed decision, local campers might want to consider the type of camping they prefer (tent vs. RV), their sensitivity to highway noise, and their need for firewood. Crawford Notch Campground appears to be a solid choice for those prioritizing location within a scenic natural area and clean facilities.
