Our family had an amazing time at this campground! It’s the perfect destination for a family-friendly vacation, with something for everyone to enjoy. The water activities were an absolute hit with the kids. There’s no shortage of fun on the water! They even had organized games by the water, which made it all the more enjoyable for the entire family. For those who love a bit of friendly competition, there’s also a great area for games like bags (cornhole) which we loved playing as a family in the evenings. The facilities were well-maintained, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.A special shout-out to Mary and Joe, the owners, who made our stay even more memorable! They truly go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and ensure that everything runs smoothly. Their personal touch and dedication to the campground really show. All in all, this campground provided the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, and we can’t wait to return! - Josh Abarca

Hi-Tide Beach & Campground Introduce

For local residents seeking a "camping near me" experience that promises family fun and water activities, Hi-Tide Beach & Campground, located at 4611 E 22nd Rd in Leland, Illinois, presents itself as a potential destination. According to one enthusiastic family, the campground offers a variety of activities suitable for all ages, with a strong emphasis on water-based fun and organized games. However, a contrasting review paints a less favorable picture, highlighting concerns about campsite size, cleanliness, facilities, and noise levels. It is crucial for prospective visitors to consider both perspectives when evaluating this campground.

One positive review emphasizes the family-friendly atmosphere of Hi-Tide Beach & Campground, describing it as the "perfect destination for a family-friendly vacation, with something for everyone to enjoy." The reviewer particularly praised the "water activities," noting that they were an "absolute hit with the kids" and that there was "no shortage of fun on the water!" The campground even organized games by the water, which added to the enjoyment for the entire family. This suggests that for families with children who love swimming and water-based play, Hi-Tide Beach & Campground might offer engaging opportunities.

Beyond water activities, the campground also features a "great area for games like bags (cornhole)," which the reviewing family enjoyed playing in the evenings. This indicates that Hi-Tide Beach & Campground provides options for friendly competition and outdoor recreation beyond the water, catering to a broader range of interests within a family or group. The same positive review also noted that "the facilities were well-maintained, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful," singling out the owners, Mary and Joe, for making their stay "even more memorable" through their personal touch and dedication.

However, a more critical review presents a starkly different experience. This reviewer raised several significant concerns that potential visitors should be aware of. Firstly, they mentioned a discrepancy in pricing, stating that they were charged extra for two of the four adults in their camper upon arrival, despite this not being clearly communicated during the reservation process. This lack of transparency regarding pricing could be a point of frustration for some campers.

The size of the campsites was also a major issue for this reviewer, who described them as "so small that once you park your vehicle next to your camper... you have barely any room left on your site." They further noted the difficulty of backing into a spot if neighboring campers' vehicles were not moved, highlighting potential overcrowding and limited maneuverability within the campground.

The "Lake" at Hi-Tide Beach & Campground was described as a "stagnant pond" with "thick" and unclean-looking water. The beach area was reported to have garbage and chunks of glass, and the provided garbage cans were overflowing by midday, leading to trash on the ground and unpleasant odors. These observations raise concerns about the cleanliness and overall appeal of the water and beach areas.

The bathhouse facilities also received criticism. The reviewer noted that the four showers required quarters and were shared with the general public, making it difficult for campers to get a shower. Additionally, the bathroom and shower stalls were reportedly "hogged by the public to change in," leading to long wait times for campers. This suggests that the bathhouse facilities may be inadequate for the number of people using them, and the shared access with the public could be inconvenient for overnight guests.

Safety and maintenance issues were also highlighted. The fire rings at the campsites were described as "so rotted they are falling apart in pieces," raising potential safety concerns. While a quiet time of 11 pm was stated, the reviewer noted that even at midnight, music was playing and children were running around and screaming, suggesting a lack of enforcement of quiet hours. The dumpster within the campground was reportedly overflowing by Saturday noon, with trash on the ground and a "horrific" smell.

Concerns were also raised about the swimming pool, with a broken safety handrail at the entrance and "slimy and slippery" stairs. The pool water was described as "cloudy" without a noticeable chemical odor, further raising questions about its cleanliness and maintenance. Finally, the location of the dump station at the exit was deemed problematic for larger campers trying to leave when someone else was using it, and a "horrible" smell of seeping septic was also reported.

The only positive aspect mentioned in the negative review was that the Bingo game was "fun for kids and adults alike." Despite this, the reviewer's group rated their experience a 2/10 and stated they would not return or recommend the campground.

Considering these contrasting reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" at Hi-Tide Beach & Campground should be aware of both the potential for family-friendly fun and the significant concerns raised about the cleanliness, facilities, campsite size, and noise levels. The experience seems to vary greatly, and prospective visitors might want to seek more recent reviews or even visit the campground beforehand if possible to assess the current conditions.

Currently, there is no explicit promotional information available in the provided reviews. The potential "promotion" based on the positive review would be its appeal as a family-friendly destination with water activities and organized games. However, the numerous issues raised in the negative review significantly temper this potential appeal. Local users might inquire about any recent improvements or changes in management that could address the concerns mentioned in the negative feedback.

In conclusion, Hi-Tide Beach & Campground in Leland, Illinois, offers the promise of a family-friendly vacation with water activities and games, as highlighted in one review. However, another review raises serious concerns regarding small campsite sizes, unclean conditions (lake, beach, pool), inadequate and shared bathhouse facilities, maintenance issues (fire rings, pool safety), noise problems, and pricing transparency. Local users seeking "camping near me" should carefully weigh these contrasting experiences and consider their own priorities regarding cleanliness, space, quiet, and amenities before making a decision. It would be prudent to seek additional, more recent feedback or contact the campground directly at (815) 495-9032 or +1 815-495-9032 to inquire about the current state of the facilities and any changes in management or policies.
